  1. McCain was 2008 , Romney was 2012.... McCain would have been done .. I consider myself an independent Democrat meaning I don't always support the party line or every candidate every time ....I always respected and liked McCain..... I think he is an honest man who tries to do what is right for the country and not just for his party. Romney wasn't all that bad either. What we have now is a mess. .In Texas, I no fan of Gov. Perry and all the things he did to public education .... but Dan Patrick is even worse... much worse. . Local property taxes went up because of Perry and state funding cuts which caused local districts to raise local taxes to support schools, but it will be much worse if Patrick gets his way and we are paying taxes which supports private schools also... Even worse... what is there to stop crazy hate groups and crazy religious groups from starting private schools and getting financed by our tax money. .... I teach in a community college and once taught in public schools. I have kept up with what has gone on those issues. ...
  2. Me either ... but I think she had the support of the extreme right and good old Rush Limbaugh ( has one hour of college credit, PE, and spent a whole year in college) was praising her a lot before then..... Probably some thought her looks and that she was a woman would get votes ... but then she opened her mouth. ..... I personally know of several GOP supporters and others that suddenly voted the other way ..... Remember she would have been in charge of the Senate and it came out that she had never even seen the Senate chamber.... Can't remember how many but she attended about 5-7 colleges before getting a degree and not a name one either. Came across to me as a cute hill-billy woman.... and that is about all.. .
  3. --- McCain regretted choosing her and they later prohibited her from doing press conferences due to her looney answers.. The press was not allowed to interview her when she came to my hometown way after the election .... but she spoke to a group and took a lot of money home... She also resigned from being Governor after being elected. I see her son beat up her husband lately (great family values) .. --- I can't believe some GOP people still like her, she is a nut... but I guess good looking considering she is no young chick. . . https://www.yahoo.com/news/sarah-palin-apos-husband-confronted-230038213.html
  4. Doubt it .. probably a lousy singer.. Oddly when I was school ... we did not even do the hand over heart deal... that was for the pledge only ..... [ however I am old] I suppose some did.. Guys in my HS usually would place a foot on the row seats in front of us when in the gym or football stadium ... Just a mostly guy thing at my school ... not typical I suppose. .. Sort of a kneeling thing. .I have read that hand over heart thing became official in the 1990's although some did it before then. .Weird fact: Before Hitler showed up .. You will find pictures of American students saluting the flag with their hand out-stretched Germany style ... saying the pledge and not with hand over heart. It was called a Bellamy salute.. The pledge is not all that old either, 1892, and has changed a bit since. -- I have seen some older people not doing the hand over heart thing during the National Anthem and getting criticized .... well ... they were not taught to do that when in school.... I wasn't. One problem ... some people think things have been a certain way for ever .... well they haven't.... Even the National Anthem has NOT been the national anthem as long as most people think.. (1931 officially, 1916 sort of) There are people still alive that existed before 1931 when it was adopted. . http://www.ushistory.org/documents/pledge.htm https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Star-Spangled_Banner
  5. ok ... but I doubt you got ads for that hotel I was looking in London .... (a rather unknown one) .. and I got them for weeks after I searched it and where it was located... Didn't even use it either.... used another one.... At present I see on this page a "Gamiss" ad with a lion tongue out .... which is the one I looked at a couple of days ago.
  6. 2008 has to one of if not the worst seasons EVER..... and Dodge was in charge... only once did the opponent score less than 35 and it was 33 in the final game of the year... he went 1-11 and nearly none of the 11 loses were close games with many 50 points or more allowed. ..... That defines terrible to me....... The 0-16 Clev. Browns did better this year than he did. They at least kept their games interesting usually.
  7. Not sure why but this forum seems to be hypersensitive to what we search or look at... I am now getting an ad for "Gamiss" or sweatshirts ( mostly with a Lion picture) constantly after I looked at one a couple of days ago.
  8. I realize people use phones of different area codes.... but if they had called that number without the area code they would have realized it did not come from a local address. That isn't fool proof but doesn't 911 just go to the local 911 center.?? .... I think if you had a Dallas phone and were in Houston you would get 911 in Houston... I also doubt the the prank call actually displayed the real number called from. Calling back might have raised some doubts and maybe made them realize it did not from as local phone. especially if the number was spoofed to a local number. . .
  9. ---Maybe the caller ID was shown [ and spoofed ] to 911. BUT .. It they had actually entered that number into the phone and called ( not just returned the call ) ... they would have discovered it was fake especially since the caller wasn't even in the same area code... and not the guy that really called. There was nothing to lose by doing this. ... and he would not have been shot.... The police need to get smarter. ... also not so fast to shoot when aren't certain he has a gun and are at a rather safe distance.... This is terrible police work.
  10. It appeared on the side on my page today so I decided to click on it for grins...... well it could not find it .... soooo I guess I lost my A**. . hahaha
  11. I think browsing history is a factor... but maybe not the only one ..... I was checking on Hotels in London and then for a couple of months I was getting ads here about London Hotels on this site.. . even one that I checked on. . There is no way that hotel was a random selection... [ not a big name ]
  12. Still doesn't justify killing him.... They have a dangerous job .... but need to use good judgement ..... They were were going to a house of a man that had no criminal history. I was (when a college student, 1960's) I was shot at by a policeman who thought I was a burglar.... I was a night-time employee. He was no rookie but about 50 years old. He gave no warning at all ... just shot.
  13. The Browns would be happy with 1-15 at this point ..... The NFL does play 16 games .... not college teams.
  14. We now know one area to really recruit.......Lots of games are won and lost on recruiting day ...
  15. Likely will improve after football ends.... also finals.
  16. The way things are going, North Korea might. ... or an earthquake....
  17. --- Any religious group or any group that kills another religious or ethnic group because they believe differently or look differently is an extremist group..... To claim religion was not an issue in the holocaust is false .. read more .. i would not exactly call me a tourist .. I have been in Europe over 1/2 year total.
  18. ---Disagree.... it was just a part of WWII but it was about the extermination a religion... ever been in Germany.?? .. I have... several times... and to Dachau even.. (near Munich). Part of the hatred was about blaming the Jewish people for the crucifixion ... When given a choice the Hebrews (Jews) chose to free Barabbas and and not Christ... the Passion plays at Oberamergrau and other places really stressed that fact prior to the war ... Doubt me .. go read about them, and the changes made in that play since then.. It was not the driving force of WWII but it was an issue. I have heard this from people in Germany (why would they lie) even at Oberamergrau... and this is not just made up by me.. . Religion was an issue.... Not the big one, conquering territory was . .. but it was an issue. It was not so much pro one religion as it was hatred of another. Their views were extreme and not typical of most in the highly Christian west. Why do you think they were targeted if not because of their religion.?? You might need to read about Bosnia (1990's) and what went on there as well ... religion and ethnic group was a huge issue in the slaughter of people....Our news did not stress the religious issue much... , read .. , you will see why.. ...but it was a big issue. Also Iran/Iraq war involved the beliefs of two Islamic groups .. Shiite and Sunni... and is still an issue in the region today. I have been in London when the IRA was blowing up things with planted bombs.... the issue ... religious differences mostly (two Christian groups .. but not the only issue) I had been in Euston Station also Covent Garden (London) a few weeks before IRA bombs exploded there. I have been in Dublin and Belfast also. ...Don't say I am atheist or whatever ... I am just not an extremist and do attend church and even went to a religious funded college for a while. Some things just are not that pleasant to learn about ...but they are still true.... Nothing is as simple as some would like you to believe.
  19. -- Religious extremists again.... What is wrong with these groups ... Islamic crazies now are the worst but we have had in the west had Jonestown, Salem witch trials, the Holocaust, the Inquisition, etc. ... What makes people think they have the right to kill those who don't believe as they do..... It also seems more wars in the past have been about religion as much as any other factor...
  20. ---I remember nothing about any stick figure..... I do remember you calling me "unpatriotic" and many other things plus changing my comments with "Fixed It" portraying me believing things I did not believe and say .. and sometimes others reacted as if I really did ... Not as bad as "90" though (he even used obscene terms about me .. and was finally banned) ... If I said I loved my mother he would claim I believed in incest .. he was terrible. Why did you call me those things eight? years ago???? .. because I thought the Iraq invasion was a mistake and also defended France's decision to not assist us in the invasion .... They did not think Iraq had nuclear weapons or a nuclear program and worse thought any invasion would destabilize the Middle East worse than it was already ..... How did things turn out..???...... not good .... None were found and the Middle East is a total mess now ... worse than before our 2003 invasion.. I have been in France several times, not my favorite country, but nothing like you tried to portray them. . They have helped us a lot through the years... they blockaded Yorktown preventing resupplying the British or evacuating them even... plus much more .. including selling us Louisiana and providing us with the Statue of Liberty... a small copy is in the Seine River in Paris. . . Sensitive ... It might be you ...... You don't like anyone to question what you believe.... but remember we are allowed to have opinions also ..... just as France is an independent country and can do what they want to do.... it may not be what we want them to do but they have that right... .
  21. That is true ... but in Texas hard economic times existed in the mid 80's ... with the oil bust and less state income as the result plus lots of banks were going belly up with all that was going on. ... ... Those cuts could be explained some and not unexpected... the real unjustified cuts happened later... That bad economy excuse is gone now with the state economy doing very well.. State funding of public schools was in 60*% range and now is less than half of that. . ... Again look at your local education property tax.
  22. ---- There are pipelines all over West Texas oilfields and this just doesn't happen (well very rarely, can't remember the last one) .. This is new line so it was not age or deterioration that was a problem ... This has to be inferior construction (or welding) .... .There was no real need to build this thing because of the oil glut that now exists...... more oil mean lower oil prices which hurts Texas and even the University Lands which get money from oil production .. which funds a lot of university education in Texas ... [ and that helps us not have a state income tax as well, since we don't have to pay taxes to support them ] It is considered very dirty oil [ lots of sulfur etc. ] which pollutes the air when refined... Nothing about this is good for Texas. Opposition to it was no so much political but with good reason... Those for it... especial the route, was very political...( check out owners and contributors) dumb route. and in the long term created less than 40 jobs. ... Dumb idea at the present ... maybe years from now, it might be needed... not now. . I am giving real reasons... not political BS. even so this should have never happened .... bad, bad construction and poor inspections. . I don't know if the below is true or not ... but makes you wonder. . . http://dailycaller.com/2016/10/26/trump-is-heavily-invested-in-fight-over-dakota-access-pipeline/ .
  23. ---Most people in education realize how much the state has been cutting the state's part of funds to education in general since about 2002. Tuition at colleges has really climbed in that period and if you check your local school taxes they have gone up a lot since then in most places... At the community college where I am employed stated to us a few years ago, the President stated "I have good news and bad news.... we now have 10% more students and 10% less state money" blaming Perry mostly then because of so many item vetoes that he had done .... including insurance for staff. There are even public schools in tax poor districts (Fort Davis is one) that no longer has a band, choir, few athletic programs, or other activities. MC has lost a few programs including pilot training which trained people to fly pipelines [ note the other thread ] .. .. This thread is very related .... class sizes have increased ... less funding for instructors... college and public schools. Part of the issue for less funds is related to giving away tax breaks to corporations ... maybe that helps large cities ..MAYBE ... but it does nothing and hurts other smaller places.. .. Perry era gave away over $25 billion in tax breaks so I have read.... plus near the end of his term ... there was a $25 billion problem which resulted in larger classes and about 12,000 teachers in public schools being released. hmmmmm ... related??? , sure looks like it .
  24. NO ..... means lower prices for oil ( there is somewhat a glut now) and is not good for Texas oil industry ... plus that oil (coming from Canada ) is very bad or highly polluting (dirty) oil ... Some day we may need it ... but not now ... I am not being political, giving valid reasons... The route chosen is not good either .. expensive route and there are better routes further west that are less expensive.... I am not anti pipeline .. West Texas is full of them... Note who owns or partially owns the project..... . ----- How in the world did this get so bad....??? . Oil companies out here FLY the pipelines regularly looking for leaks and problems. I have even had students in my classes that did that for a living...... I think a nearby neighbor (pilot) of mine does that.... Looks like bad, bad, careless management. I
