  1. Which party? .. Big deal .... supporters in both parties have guys that are rats.... why mention the party.?... Remember Ken Lay [.Enron] provided money and planes to GOP candidates.... and he swindled millions, maybe billions from 1000's of people and looted their retirement accounts and retirement insurance plus cheating investors.. Some had been employed by companies that were purchased or merged with Enron and never actually was an Enron employee.. They had nothing left but social security or what they might have saved. . [Northern Gas is one.. I know some] ... Many were too old to work anymore.... their lives were ruined. --- Remember Tx. Senator, Phil Gramm, GOP ... his wife (Wendy) was on their board of directors. --- I'll bet Fox ?News? never mentioned that.
  2. --- Athletes are already paid somewhat ... they do not pay tuition, housing etc. like most other students have to do ... It does seem a bit unfair for the universities to use the athletes name and picture to make money .... so just ban universities from doing that then.. An interesting comment I heard today was "supporters could tell a recruit that they would buy maybe 1000's of jerseys with their name on it and the profits resulting would be passed on the recruit.....Ie. a way to get them to commit to a certain school. Things are already not on an even basis but this could ruin college athletics (my opinion) .. . It will also cause discontent among the players also ... the QB, RB or WR, might earn a lot of money and the linemen or others might get near nothing even though without them they would be not successful.
  3. --- No President has ever been so made fun of and disrespected as the current guy ....but he deserves it... He calls people bully names like a some elementary kid might do ( Little Rubio, Lying Cruz etc.) .. You can never tell when he is telling the truth because he lies so often ... Most of them can absolutely be proven as lies... None of his THREE wives could trust him.. so why should we. ?? ..... Then there are his wacky comments such as "I have a BIG BRAIN". He does seem to have any common sense when it comes to comments and has insulted about every ethic group and country at some time. His cabinet and staff keeps quitting or getting let go if they dare disagree with him ... more than has ever happened before to a President . This not about which party he is a member of but strictly about HIM. I am not sure impeachment is the right answer since he only has about 14 months in office left (if not re-elected) but he need to go. ... He is making us the joke of the world... and somewhat dangerous with his possible decisions. He also has removed so many pollution and other regulations that need to be in place... ---Why did he not release his taxes as PROMISED... ?? What do they show... dishonesty and maybe how much that tax cut he favored made him or what.??? .. Don't just say he changed his mind --,because he did not provide a reason that he didn't do as promised.. All Major Presidential candidates has done so since 1956 (except him) ...... Just another lie... He needs to be gone.
  4. People in education see that "parent attitude " too often ... Their kid can do no wrong. School, teachers etc. are picking on them.
  5. ---Likely it was about the same considering minimum wage.... My yearly cost at UNT was about $1300-1500 and min wage was about $1.15 = 1400 hrs of work... My sons cost in late 90's was about $13,000 with a min wage of about $5.15 = 2500 hrs... but one worked in computer labs so brought the cost down some. Things really got crazy after 2000 as the state has cut spending to education..... even for public schools which they once supported about 60% but now it is close to 30%. Perry era was no friend to education... I did not do frat but did live in College Inn (new, first year open) which was about $10- $15 more per month than state dorms and really worth it . --- I knew of no one with a student loan ... exception --- a friend at Baylor law school. ( not as state place ) Cost is bad now ... BUT I absolutely oppose free education or tuition... I taught at a community college (Midland ) which had free tuition for recent couty grads... it was not good ... people signed up for class .. then learned it was not HS 2.0 (easy) and quit coming since they had "no money on the table".. -- that did not last long. ..Students needd to have some money involved not free.... but the surrent cost is crazy . . Some students try to "live it up too much" and run up debt.... and ignore they will have to pay for it later... But that is some, not all. I am shocked how much many owe years later. Fortunately my kids got out in mostly the late 90's and owed zero. They earned quite a bit especially when interns and I contributed quite a bit as well.. My wife earned every penny with no parental help, but lived at home two years, 1966 graduate... She graduated in 3 years.... She worked her tail off. -- I doubt that would be possible today. .
  6. ---The state provides less funding to public schools and colleges than it once did .....meanwhile gives businesses tax cuts... This was especially true in the Gov. Perry era. (no fan of him) ... The state once provided over 60% to public schools and now it is about 35% or less. I can't remember exact numbers but my enrollment bill at NTSU or UNT in 1964 was in the area of $100-$150... not counting housing and food or books .. most books cost me about $15 or about $120 in 2019 dollars... (min wage was $1.15 then.).
  7. ----With the appearance of Fox and these radio guys like Rush Limbaugh talking 24-7, things has gotten much more divided...especially along party lines. I am old enough to remember the Nixon/ Watergate problems and it was nothing like it is now.... Even Viet Nam wasn't either... not divided on party lines or liberal/conservative views very much... just lots of opposition to war in general... One good thing that happened as a result was dropping voting age to 18 from 21 ... because before then people were being drafted into the military and could not even vote or have any voice in the situation. The average age of a PFC in Nam .. about 19.6, WWII it was about 26 --- but that was a war to survive as a country. . . I was "draft bait" for Nam for three years before I could vote.
  8. Sometimes bad news is good news........ fired at TTU ...then gets a NFL position .... and I assume at more pay.
  9. I have no use for this guy .... Played on the SMU "Death Penality" team... and largely responsible for Mike Leach being let go at TxTech. https://sports.yahoo.com/downfall-craig-james-create-karma-021520234.html?.tsrc=daily_mail&uh_test=2_14
  10. ---Which has the best potential to sell newspaper to ...UNT or SMU .?? ... Very stupid of them .... many times more UNT grads. Must be an SMU grad in charge of marketing ... very very dumb ....stupid of them to ignore a huge group of possible and present customers... . or to tick them off. SMU endowment size doesn't buy newspapers.
  11. They didn't but they are now catching on..... My sons (engineers) has been there (China and Asia) and the pollution is awful... The air some places is terrible and now they have began to figure it out .... Can't correct the problem over night. Corporations don't want to cut it back lots of time because it can be expensive and their competition isn't so they continue to stay competitive. . It can only be stopped by government regulations ... pick any country . Third world countries ... they use a lot a lot of polluting materials due to poverty including coal to stay warm or cook. Got an answer for that one ?? .. I don't. . . .Likely some of the change is just natural but a lot is due to man's activities. Those who deny it should notice ice at the poles is less and smaller, Glacier Nat. Park almost has none now, and many high elevation places (mountain tops) that were once covered by ice/snow year around aren't now. .One problem is so much increased population.... This Earth can only support some finite number... Some countries and areas that once had trees don't now .... they were burned to cook and stay warm... It will all "hit the fan" someday.
  12. --- Just because those countries are messing it up .. doesn't mean we should too... like it or not it exists... and appears to be a lot due to man and our pollution.. Hopefully the others will get better... China is the big bad one of the list .. the others... not so much. ( India is not that industrial) ..and China is finally catching on they now have a mess.... bad water and nearly unbreathable air in many places. Can't correct it over night and companies don't like to spend money to stop it especially when their competitors doesn't. They will have to be forced to do something by their government. . Who denies it here... mostly big companies (not all) that don't want to spend money to stop polluting.
  13. --- I have posted similar in the past .. and have been called socialist, liberal, crazy, and everything else... I am not anti-gun (semi-rural person) ... but some controls need in place for these military style rapid -fire guns.. They are not toys.... 20+ years ago this type of thing (mass shootings) happened EXTREMELY rarely but have become commonplace.. People should have a NEED to buy these rapid-fire military type ones. ..not just want one. We have controls on dynamite/explosives and many other things but not these guns ... crazy.. I can't even buy many types of fertilizer that I purchased for many years ( and sold when in college). ---The damned NRA kept claiming Obama was coming after your guns and sales of guns in general exploded .... it was a lie....[ that bogus claim sold a lot of guns and increased membership for them.] No effort was made at all or was even suggested .... just better controls of who buys them .... not mental cases and not people who have a bad history .... it may too late because so many now exist .... but some controls might stop a few of these crazy events.... yes I will get to collect of down votes in the corner ... but I don't care... I am not some "city-type" that hates guns... --For those of you oppose better control of who buys guns ..... do you support removing all controls over explosives such as nitro and dynamite... They can be fun too. Just big firecrackers. I wish I could still buy some of the fertilizer I once could but can't ...due to more control..... Very few people used it for "bad" things. ....... a lot less than these extreme guns. .Not opposing guns in general ...own them... just these military rapid-fire types (sometimes called assault weapons) I am not even saying ban them .... just demonstrate a NEED for one. ( example: security company) .. also these "extended" magazines. I would not need to shoot a burglar or whoever 25 times.
  14. In Texas .. the system sends out voter cards every two years and they are returned to election officials and removed.. if the person no longer lives at an address.. ... The PO can not forward them... Election offices also keep up with deaths and removes them (deaths) from rolls as they happen.... sounds bogus here in Texas. ... unless they died very very recently. . .Even if sent somehow ... the name is checked against ACTIVE rolls and would be tossed. ... Don't be gullible to "rumors". . .Actually I have received more absentee ballot requests forms from GOP candidates in past years than any Demo one.. none this year from either that I remember...
  15. How....??? ..... members of both parties work the every polling place in the general election ... I am an election judge and wonder how they managed it . --- It is easy to make false claims...
  16. I don't think all rural homes have a STREET address (maybe just country rd number) .... especially if they do not receive any mail there but use a PO. Box. Many people do not like to use a mailbox not near their house because of people "meddling" with them. ..... I own some ranch land and if lived there would not have a clue what the address was except County Road 151 and would not use a mailbox by the property but use a P.O Bx for security reason ....... People who live in cities often do not understand other situations. . To me if they just state their location such as Sioux reservation... that should be accepted... they can be found. Part II .. I am an election judge.... and I have seen a few improvements lately .... One --senior citizens no longer have to have a drivers license or ID form (passport maybe) that is current... some don't drive and Driver's licenses offices can be a long way away [ try west Texas ..may be in another county] ... .
  17. Thanks .... I was on campus then and have wondered if he lived at College Inn where i lived... guess not ... I still have my NTSU directory somewhere.. but don't know where.??? Wanted to check it.
  18. The problem is winning is that fans are never satisfied.. they want more ... Maybe he deserved to be fired .. don't know ... but they think they need to blame someone. They sure gave up a lot of points.
  19. A larger issue the growth of Metroplex and the light that created.... when I was at UNT (NTSU) there was nothing on the Mckinney Hwy and even undeveloped land between LBJ (635) and Dallas .. IH-35 to Dallas had a lot of undeveloped land.. I don't even think I ever heard of the towns Frisco or Allen.. The county side around Denton was rather dark and undeveloped. . . The missile site was still active when I was at UNT. .. I remember signs along the road nearby to not park there. (mid-late 60's)
  20. Just don't take them lightly as an automatic win ... that is when you are likely to get defeated. Falwell either founded or was a big supporter of Liberty Univ. He blamed 9-11 on America's sinfulness and some other televangelist supporter claimed all the hurricanes was punishment for America tolerating gays .... I am sure not all there feel that way but some of those have really strange extreme ideas.. .It will interesting to see what people here say that go to the game and see what they observed. . -- That is why some here commented what they did.. I remember hear Rev. Dodson several years ago saying all state colleges were pagan infidel places and that community colleges were little more than just "barber schools" ... while hyping "Liberty Univ". as a "fine" Christian institution... I heard it ..on his radio program while I was driving. -- not making it up. .Never been there or known anyone from there but heard a few strange things about it. .https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_University ------ Founded in 1971 by Jerry Falwell, the university began as Lynchburg Baptist College -- Studies at the school have a Christian orientation, with three required Bible-studies classes in the first year for undergraduate students.[12] The school's honor code, called the "Liberty Way", prohibits premarital sex and private interactions alone between members of the opposite sex.[13][14] Described as a "bastion of the Christian right" in American politics, the university plays a prominent role in Republican politics.
  21. ---- Someone mentioned us dropping to DII ... we can give SMU some credit on that one too .... Had they not blocked our entry into the SWC we have been still been in DI ....and even attendance didn't matter .... SMU and TCU would have been also if they not been in a conf. with AM, UT, and Ark, and Tech.--- Guess you can tell I have NO love for SMU..... none. Rules mean or meant nothing to them ... that is why that got the death penality ... and I understand their basketball program was just as rotten then ..... and their coach then ( Bliss?) was later of the coach of Baylor when that murder took place in their basketball program. .
  22. ---- I really am glad that trick play was done against Arkansas and that is not being personal to them. I saw it on the Sunday Night NFL game (halftime) and also CBS this morning...and on ESPN yesterday and local TV and somewhere else..... It was done and worked against a name team and got us a lot of a good attention and free publicity... --- I make will an exception for insulting SMU... We have put up with them for years [ 52 years since my graduation ] and they largely were responsible for us not getting into the SWC years ago... They still refer to us as a community college or worse... they have earned it . Also glad it was an ex-SMU coach that we defeated. They have no respect for us and deserve none from us. Good luck Hogs. .... I remember them playing us in the 60's (we had Joe Green et. al) when seemly no other SWC team would. (we were integrated, supposedly that was the reason, they were not). --Correction- Baylor played us one game in basketball.
  23. Thanks Cerebus ... I agree. ... We don't need to act like most SMU fans.
  24. ---I was surprised that UA scored that last TD .... We were in easy field field goal range at the end and just took as knee instead of running a play or kicking the FG. .... and the game was hopeless at that point..... Since it was hopeless and basically over, I expected them to do near nothing and run the clock out ... .. They didn't and scored against a group that had not expected a big effort. --- I guess we should have kicked the FG or tried to score and run the score up. --- Maybe should remember that if we play them ( or that SMU ex-coach) again...
