  1. The PC police don't read Playboy....it would not be politically correct.
  2. Well said Seminole. Although I wish we had been victorious in more than one NO Bowl, North Texas can't go it alone to build the conference.
  3. Our RBs will be very productive IF the O-line can hold off the opponents defense....... The players up front on defense and offense get less credit but they HAVE to do well for us to do well.
  4. ---Stang......You are destoying my life-time hatred of SMU.....LOL ----Troy would have been a better economic draw.. That is reason we were overlooked during the Joe Green and Hayden Fry days.......... Outside of the big 3-4 bowls of the time they looked at us and then at other teams and decided they would be a better team to bring fans...... The truth hurt..... If we don't make the NO bowl we would be a good choice (hopefully) for the Ft. Worth Bowl....... We would bring a sizable amount of fans unlike many they could chose..... Whether we like it or not, some bowls invitations are decided by potential ratings, number of fans, and how many will attend the bowl game. We need to improve attendence and interest......big time.!!!!!!!
  5. ----Don't complain... the first 30+ years I was an alum there weren't ANY Bowl games. [ even though we deserved 2-3 ] You give a kid a piece of cake and then he wants the entire cake...... patience.....we are getting there.
  6. The more they expect to win the worse it feels if and when they lose.... We can pray for their overconfidence and a good start by us...... [ unlike last years first few plays, those events take the wind out of a team, and destroy morale ]
  7. ---Picking games especially scores is risky..... Tech defeated once beaten California (USC, the National Champion, was their other other loss) but had lost to New Mexico and A&M who lost to Baylor who defeated us worse than they had defeated Texas State.. Any week anything can happen.... that is why I don't automaticly concede to LSU even though winning is unlikely. __________________ Last year Tech defeat Nebraska by 60 which defeated Baylor by 32.... Baylor only lost by 25 to Tech--- plus Baylor had defeated A&M which Defeated Tech...... It is a Mad, Mad,Mad, Mad, World... anything can happen. LSU is not a cinch loss nor is the lopsided score.
  8. I am hoping for for "INTRA-state Battery" and assault next year when smu appears in Denton.
  9. ---If they can't improve attendence this year they should just give up. They have six (6) Texas teams on their schedule and four of them are home games. If they can't put fans in the stands perhaps their opponent can. ---I expect they will win more than the predicted one....but it would hurt my feelings any to see a fat zero in their win column....since they have always been so nice and supportive of us. ---SouthernStang who posts here seems ok but he is the exception to most SMU alums I have known. Maybe the new breed of pony is better than the old ones, most of the older ones are kin to "mules*" not horses. *polite term
  10. --The most visible person of NT alums has to be Dr. Phil at the moment. He has a couple of NT degrees... both graduate degrees.
  11. -----I do not expect North Texas to defeat LSU BUT---- I am not throwing in the towel either.... strange things happen. I have personally watched a team with 2 first downs and about 20 yards defeat a team with about 20 first downs and over 250 yards. (it happened as a result of a punt return and multiple turnovers) ---The Houston Texans had only 40 yards when they defeated the Steelers two years ago. The nuttiest was a Cowboy loss (52-10) in 1970 and they had set a then record for offensive yards ( over 500 yards and probably a record on turnovers too) and later that year made the Super Bowl. They had the ball all day and would throw an int, watch them score and go back on offense again and mess up again.. ---Will we win, rather unlikely.... can we win.... if we get lucky and and they play poorly. Troy alsmost defeated them didn't they. ---This team is a real question-mark. There are a lot of spots to fill even if we do have excellent running backs. WE could do very well or fall apart and do poorly. ---I can't believe some here just think it is IMPOSSIBLE to win..... unlikely but not impossible. Every year good teams lose to teams that are given no chance.
  12. If he plays against LSU he will likely find those weapons of mass destruction that we have heard about..
  13. You never know what people are thinking. Some folks may have thought he really was.
  14. ---He seriously doubt that is he Max Emfinger's son... Max lives in Covington?, Louisiana I think. Max went to HS with me in Brownwood but he no longer lives in Texas. Apparently Hank Stram was living in that same town when he died.
  15. ---Two diplomas from North Texas with my name on them.
  16. ----It is a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World when everyone thinks they are too good for this league. This a four year old league in football and the members need to show patience. None of us are at the level we aspire to be yet but as we (as a group) start winning against well-recognized programs then the league's repitation will improve if several teams are successful. ---Now that the league appears more stable and regionalized with those far western teams gone it should will help our public and self image. We will not look a league of ignored teams that just banded together.
  17. Amen... Passing for a few yards will back up the defense and help the running backs find space..... plus keeping them guessing is a good thing..... The passing game fairly well should work since we have a great running threat plus we have some good receivers if you can get the ball close to them.
  18. Agree....... you are giving BCS teams in general too much respect. They can be beaten by non BCS teams. A few are extremely good but the rest can be beaten.
  19. Close may be relative------(OU stomps most people) Yawl lost to Tulane and South Florida which were 7-11 when not playing TCU..... TxTech put 70 on your team last year. Included in your FIVE wins were Army, Northwestern and SMU with only one impressive win.. SoMiss (at home). I hope you do defeat OU but I wouldn't bet anything on it.
  20. Thanks...spent four evenings on the Fourth on the grass between Fouts and the Colisium watching the fireworks show. Happy Fourth to everyone.
  21. Repeating again -------Eleven (11) members now....could use some more competive Mean Green players. Read first post for settings and times... very close to Yahoo settings with return yards added which creates a few more players worth drafting, some will be RBs and some WR's... If you are considering it, it is time to join because spaces are disappearing. We will end up up 14 or 16 teams (no more)...must be an even amount in order to draft. http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1
  22. MY vote for strangest: Itaska "Wampus Cats" or the absolute worst....Houston Morris Academy: "Praying Hands". Now that is taking extreme Christianity way TOOO far. I also notice the Dumas Demons seem to be edited from the list below, however the Rankin Red Devils made it. Read the below list of Texas HS mascots. http://www.texasmascots.com/jav/bymascotletter.jsp?A=P Then there is the Dallas Hockaday "Daisies" Guess those folks (girls) don't play football.
  23. That averages out to $50 per hour...... or even worse $62.50 PER HOUR for 8 hours. At least that is what is what they are hoping for. ..Good Grief.!!! A "group" of teen-age kids would charge a lot less.
  24. Repeat-------Ten (10) members now....could use some more competive Mean Green players. Read first post for settings and times... very close to Yahoo settings with return yards added.
