When I went to UNT just a few years ago it seemed like every elective course that I took online had at least 1 football player in there. They're generally pretty easy classes lol. And now due to Covid, the amount of online classes that are offered is even greater. Schools do the best in their ability to make coursework easier for their prized athletes, which I'm not taking a shot at them, but it's just how it works.

100 % true. Players are given access to "easier" classes; if they are full, exceptions are made to get them in. I spoke to a counselor once regarding a note on one of the classes my son was trying to take, and she said that they had to hold spots for the athletic department for a certain amount of time as they were "projected" to be needed by players. Again, as you said, it's how it works.

DING DING.  That why I push back so hard on those with the opinion demonizing the players and NIL.   The guys playing today enjoying NIL don’t remember classic Bowl games that were more than just named for a product.  They don’t remember classic Big 10 vs PAC 10 Rose Bowls.  They don’t remember guys running around with Roses or Oranges looking ecstatic to be in a Bowl game.  Every time schools/conference got to a decision tradition vs more money they chose more money.   As a whole you can not tell me that a four team playoff after the bowl games would have resulted in more money for EVERYONE than a 12 team playoff.  That EVERYONE is the problem.  You can’t make decisions as independent entities in a league at the long term expense of the sport and expect not to harm your own program in the long term.  Almost everyone in the media is late preaching caution and doom.  The formation of BCS was the last chance they had to get off this dead end cut throat greed but they chose greed.

I would say there is enough greed to blame both sides. The schools and the players care about what they feel is best for them, and if you think either side gives a damn about fans (other than wanting them to spend their money), you are mistaken. For these university presidents to even say "student-athletes" is a joke. Also, many of these players are willing to hop from school to school, so I find it hard to think getting an education is a high priority for many.

He was a dual threat quarterback in High School and has good size (6'1" 210). Always good to have a punter with those skills in the event you want to use them for a fake punt.

With our current depth at QB, he might need to help with throwing practice routes in practice for the Spring. 😱

That is the mindset of the schools every time conference alignment and scheduling comes up.  Every school not in Big 10 or SEC would leave traditional rivals to join one of the those conferences behind.  No consideration of the the hardship maintaining academic eligibility while regularly traveling  over 3-4 time zones during the week for games.  Stanford and Cal in an East Coast conference.  UCF and Arizona in the same conference garbage.

I'm not sure how much difference it makes with academic eligibility, but I wonder what percentage of online classes the players are taking. Also, golf and softball/baseball teams have traveled all over the place for years, especially early in the year; I am guessing they have a reference point to plan.

If the coaches encouraged players to enter the portal . . . you're right, they technically still have no obligation to take them back.  But it feels dirty.  I view that a whole lot differently than when a player has decided he's too good for North Texas.

Both sides now view this as a strict business decision. Players will come and go as they please and teams will no longer keep around players that they do not believe will contribute. I have a feeling at some point in the future we will look back and find out that just as many players were hurt by this process as benefited by the process.

Wow.  JMU has lost 8 players to Indiana.   That could be expected with Indiana taking their head coach.  But, that has to hurt.

Similar to when Kinne took a lod of players with him from UIW to Texas State. I also believe the new UTEP coach took a few players from his old team.

I mean isn’t that what we’re talking about with Purdy as well - just with even less data points? To me Morris looks like a better and more accurate passer based on YPC and Completion Percentage. Not sure what’s not to like about his upside in our system?

Pavia from NMSU is also interesting.

Morris is close enough to come over still and "unofficially" throw with the receivers and meet with the coaches. The risk for him or others who cannot come in the Spring will be if we find another transfer that can be here.

Salter from Cedar Hill , LIBERTY has entered. A lot of talented Texas qb's in the portal. How many head coaches have found a non recruited player in high school and developed him into a first round NFL draft pick? Morris has a lot to sell.

You're correct with your comments; however, there seem to be more important things for some players (not saying right or wrong, just saying how it looks) than the ability to be developed. For some of these players, the bottom line is NIL money. Look at quarterbacks willing to transfer from starting roles to be backups at other schools. There also seem to be some players who want the experience of playing at the power level.

    I guess I'm confused here.
If you mean "the way he left North Texas" to be: a middling, uninspired, .500 coach who has difficulty getting his teams fired up for big games... then yes, I agree.
If you mean "the way he left North Texas" to be what some here are insinuating: that he was a bitter/spiteful coward who ran off with cash and didn't express gratitude to fans who were calling for his head, & those who fired him... then no, I don't agree, because I don't think that is entirely true.

My bad. I was referencing DD, not Seth.
