  1. The date of post was 2 days ago - Nov 19th, so seeing him a few weeks ago doesn't mean it's not gone.
  2. I don't think by stating: "My point was not to say Flanigan is an offensive genious, but to say that he deserves a little more respect..." is positing he has a plethora of experience or that he is an "expert". I thought it was pretty clear that he meant that RF has "more" knowledge about football than the common poster here. RF just isn't a "5 star chef" (to use your analogy)... he's just a fry cook from mcdonalds... which would make him know more about operating commercial fryers than those who eat there.
  3. I swear, some of the comments coming from UNT grads leave me wondering about the quality of the education UNT really provides.
  4. met my wife at clark hall freshman year...
  5. First, the generalization that people from Louisiana are slow is short sighted and ignorant - plain and simple. It's about as ignorant as those from other states saying Texans all rednecks who wear cowboy hats and ride horses. Second, per the Times Picayune: Benson was taunted by fans as he walked out of the stadium, said Bensel, the Saints spokesman who accompanied the owner after the game. In the incident with WWL employees, Benson slapped with his right hand at the camera being operated by Mike Bland and knocked the microphone off its mooring. Benson also had a verbal exchange with a fan, Bland and WWL-TV reporter Lee Zurick, Zurick said. Vincent said LSU officials asked the Saints during the week before the game if Benson needed extra security and were told it wouldn't be necessary. "We were told he didn't need any security detail, he had his own," Vincent said. Four bodyguards accompanied Benson on Sunday, including longtime guards Fred Williams, a deputy chief with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, and Jerry Ursin, a former New Orleans Police Department officer. He is posturing for sympathy because he has been vilified for his actions both before and after Katrina. Fans shout and heckle at games all the time but that doesn't mean they intend to kill. I especially love how he has 4 body guards and he attacks a camera man, yet he fears for his life. What a joke.
  6. Being from New Orleans and a life long Saints fan of course I am going to chime in. In response to UNTFan23 why don't they deserve a team? They have maintained a team there for the past 38 years. The Saints are the representative NFL team for the gulf region so it's not fan base is just measly little New Orleans. Is it because they are no good? If that's the case then why did the Mavs deserve to stick around, or UNT for that matter. We haven't been shattering the attendance records. and to H-towngreen. I don't see how you can say that the saints don't have "true fans". It speaks volumes that a franchise that has done so poorly since its existence still sells out games consistently. Heck, the fans themselves have started a foundation which is trying to fight the move by the owner by different means including commercials to get the message out. That's why you have seen news about them in PTI, Around the Horn, etc. Those shows have emailed the fans back saying they were going to respond. /rant off Here's the point by point breakdown of the New Orleans situation: 1. Tom Benson (the owner) wants to move to San Antonio because the state of LA didn't want to give him money for new stadium 2. Tagliabue wants a team in LA in order to create a larger profit margin through TV markets, not because of fan support 3. The Saints, Colts, Jags, and Vikings were all considered teams that could move to Los Angeles 4. Katrina hits, Tags says that Saints won't leave 5. Benson doesn't want to wait for 600 million dollar insurance check for the superdome to pass so wants to move the team 6. He wants all games moved to San Antonio but another high member of his staff, Feilkow, and Tags push for 4 games in Baton Rouge 7. Benson cuts off ticket lines to Baton Rouge and makes it nearly impossible to get tickets to tiger stadium, meanwhile, dumps vast amounts of money into promoting san antonio games. (all of this done in secret so that it looks like there are no saints fans in LA. In fact, he had to give out 8,000 tickets to the san antonio games just to make it look better) 8. Benson states that the practice facilities are all damaged beyond repair so the team can't move back. 9. Feilkow whistleblows about this and gets fired 10. News crews go to practice facilities and find that it is in pristine condition 11. Sources now state that benson wants to move the team. The natural inclination is to go with Los Angeles because that is what the league wanted. I doubt that the owners would vote to approve a move to San Antonio because it is just a lateral move to an area that already has fans of other NFL teams i.e. the Texans and Cowboys. The bottom line is money. The league wants larger TV revenue, Benson wants money period. He changed his tune pretty quick when the mayor of San Antonio said Benson would have to pony up the money for the Alamodome to have suites put in and since that statement, NOW the team is said to be moving to L.A. We'll have to wait and see....

  8. What's more important to me is the question, were we the "if all else fails" pick for these kids? We need to get some of these kids to change UNT to their first choices so we don't end up looking at lists of "what could've beens".
  9. I sat in the student section... even though the crowd was smaller than the Tulsa one, they were much rowdier. Of course, it emptied slowly after it started to look bad mid 3rd quarter. For the life of me, I can't figure out why nobody really makes much noise while we are on defense. It was better today than it has been in a while, but our crowds as a whole just don't provide a confrontational environment for opposing teams.
  10. It's well known to the LA natives that this type of behavior happens, but most LSU fans don't get all crazy towards other teams unless they are either a rival, ranked, or in the SEC. I speak from experience.
  11. I'm surprised that they make so little mention of the Music school and they make no mention of how great the Environmental Philosophy department is. Most of the profs are instrumental in the founding and further development of environmental philosophy.
  12. And I was hoping for a Saints win, but it was just awful.. the football gods were against us both tonight. At least your team didn't fumble in the first play of the game, hit a ref with the ball resulting in an interception, lose a probowl return man to an ACL tear, miss a 29 yard field goal by hitting the post, fumble the ball resulting in a touchback because your WR dropped the ball on the pylon instead of getting the TD, and play your "home opener" about 1300 miles north of your actual home. Hope that makes you feel better Bad weekend for us all...
  13. It's funny that you say that because I was shocked to hear DD say on the pre-game show that there was no way that we could contain the run. Now I know that may be and was true, but I can't believe that he would say that. Makes me wonder what the pre-game speech was.
  14. First let me say that I am a lifelong saints fan. What does this have to do with tonight? It means that I am used to watching a losing team so I know after a loss what typical fan reactions and overreactions happen such as those tonight. That said, I am actually in agreement with most of what has been said. I would usually say that after such a beat down, people would overreact but tonight was not just a group of inexperienced young players getting out played by a better team. It was the little things that really bothered me. The number of penalties is just inexcusable and is a reflection of the coach. You don't have to have talent to avoid personal fouls. The other thing that really stuck out in my mind was our total lack of preparation regarding the tight end. He had something like 150 yards against OU last week yet he was uncovered for most of the game and not because of out of position players, rather, scheme. Last, I could just tell by the play calling at the beginning of the game when it was still close that the staff has no confidence in the QB position in general. I know that this is to be expected with a freshman but if I can sniff out that they are scared to call any pass plays up in the stands, I am sure that opposing defenses are salivating. You have to at least give the impression that you aren't scared to go for it. EDIT: oh and PS, the green brigade looked great tonight. I love the new unies. Reminds me of a cross between the cavies and the devils for all you dci guys.
  15. I am surprised at the extreme ends of some of the comments made here. I would say that there is a big difference between someone stealing/looting/(insert term here) food from a store versus a tv from a house. Life isn't as simple as "stealing is just stealing". If everything was cut and dry, then we wouldn't need courts anymore.
  16. Just to let some of you know who are following this thread... downtown isn't flooded at all and there is no mention of any levee breaches. 9th ward is bad right now and I hear the westbank is bad. Might take a month to get power back. My uncle works for the power company and last we heard from him, he said it was bad as far as power for people is concerned. Mississippi and Alabama took more abuse than New Orleans. Put an attachment for those who know the mid-city/city park area that doesn't look too good. from TP. [attachmentid=170] Mayor of NO just had a news conference. 20 buildings have collapsed, one an apartment bldg. Bodies floating in various areas. 200 people on roofs awaiting rescue; 20 NO police officers. Cannot get to them. 50" water main has burst, location unknown. Boil order in effect. 1 block breech in levy. Must rescue in boats. Cannot start rescues for another hour. One hospital in trouble. From WWLTV. They are back on line with an audio feed thru CBS. Mayor told people of NO who left that they cannot come back for at least 2 days or more. 9th Ward, Jackson Barracks major flooding. Hyatt Hotel all windows blown out on one side. Was where the mayor and other officials are staying. Jefferson parish under boil order. Lost all water pressure there. 700,000 in NO without power; worst outage ever. NO east worst hit where floating bodies spotted. 20 NO police officers were at their homes waiting to relive those on duty already Just wanted to update those LSU guys and others about what I have last heard.
  17. I've lived in Texas for the past 10 years but prior to that, I grew up in New Orleans. I have been able to see first hand the difference between fans rooting for UT/A&M vs. LSU and it's quite different. I've gone to plenty of LSU games since 3 of my cousins are LSU grads, the best man in my wedding marched in the Tigerband for 4 years, and frankly because if you are born in LA, you come out with stripes unless your dad was a Tulane grad. When LSU fans come here to post, they already show that they are different from the majority of fans because they come to talk some football, maybe a little smack, but all in fun. I promise you that plenty of Tiger fans aren't like this. Those fans take pride in the fact that they know that coming to play in "Death Valley" has a reputation and that said rep is pretty much true when LSU is on the losing end. It's true that when LSU wins or is winning the game, fans just get razzed and such but it's generally a decent environment unless you are personally starting something which would be the same result most places. However, if LSU is losing the game or loses, it's a whole different animal, especially if it is to someone like Georgia and both teams are ranked and 5-0. That's actually when I have seen the most fights break out. I've gone to games at LSU, UT, OU, and here and although that isn't enough of a sample size to make a true comparison, I've seen way more fights at LSU then anywhere else. Actually, I've only seen a fight at OU once, and never at UT or here. Fighting at football games is not normal, but you would be hard pressed to find an LSU fan who hasn't seen a fight at a game. I think that is why they have the reputation they have.
  18. The advantage that we have is that they are replacing a head coach, starting QB, among other players. But then we are doing the same at QB and, let's face it, we don't have the horses they have. I think if there is even the smallest "So you are saying there's a chance..." (dumb and dumber) situation it could be this one of all the large teams we play like UT, OU, etc. But more likely that we will end up losing something like 51-3. It's always fun to hope and maybe.... just maybe, half of the team will be out kicking it Tiger style the night before and be hung over on game day.
  19. I came to NT in 94, the year that you are talking about. I remember in the dorms everyone made a big deal about going to the games because they said that unless we had a certain attendance, we would be dropped back down. Good times.
  20. I've watched the tours for a while now and this is his usual game plan. He happened to get the Yellow today because of when the team time trial was but he won't care about keeping it like you said. Just wait till the pyrenees.
  21. Okay, here's my list: ------------------------- Frilly's (for new orleans "like" seafood) Rudy's (for BBQ) Thai Ocha (for asian food) Katz (for a good Burger) Yummi's (for greek) Evergreen (for chinese buffet) Botchy's Bistro (for that cafe style food and kick ass deserts) Popeye's (my favorite fast food) too many good mexican places, i like more of those little dives that are on Elm and Locust near Eagle rather than the larger chains. Only Rudy's on that list shows outward support of UNT, although I am sure that most support UNT as half of the staff probably goes there.
  22. Also, forgot to mention that the only other possibility of him "failing" in the summer aside from the 3w1, is if he has already got a WF for the 8W1 session which is in progress, or a WF for 5w1(formerly known as summer 1). I am not trying to stir the pot, rather show the possibility. In my heart, I don't think it is true, however, I would also like to know the rules of the NCAA regarding summer classes. Either way, we'll be fine at QB for the reasons that Plumm mentioned. We do have options.
  23. But it was the first summer term. It's all technically speaking of course. See, they changed the titles of everything. I know because my wife worked in student accounting and she had to make documents showing the changes so that the workers could follow along in EIS. The name changes are shown on the website that I linked. There is no longer a summer I and II - those are 5w1 and 5w2, and summer refers to the "whole" summer. Point being, it is entirely possible, though unlikely, that Byerly did fail classes in the summer already.
