The USA goes into the fifth place bracket now....if we win the next one, we play in the fifth place game...if we lose the next one we play in the seventh place game. Two games left either way, but for the USA, this loss is a little bit embarassing.

I don't think the Greeks have been told yet where they will be tailgating. My best guess would be they would be in the green lot at Fouts, and have to walk or shuttle across at Bonnie Brae. I heard a while back that there will be shuttles from the Fouts Parking lot for students as well as people parking in that lot for games. Also, during our seat selection, they made it sound like tailgating would be done at cars, but people would have the option to take their stuff to the grass if they wanted to. For what it's worth, I was also told that the pedestrian walkway across I35 had been funded and approved, and that the project would begin right after this season and be done for 2012. That one seems a little hard to believe, but that would be awesome.

The plus side of this loss is that Germany is on the other side of the bracket. Brazil worries me far less than Germany and their home crowd. The loss itself though is very disconcerting. For what it's worth though, the second Sweden goal was a fluke. It is too bad that this was our first group stage loss ever. Anything less than winning the whole thing would be a disappointment for the #1 ranked team in the world. Anyways, here is what the bracket looks like. Australia (5-1) Serbia (4-2) Croatia (4-2) Argentina (4-2) United States (5-1) Russia (3-3) Poland (4-2) Lithuania (4-2) A little bit worrying to have Lithuania on our side of the bracket, but it is what it is...we knew we were going to need to beat them sometime in the knockout round anyway. All teams have at least two games left even if they lose, because FIBA determines every single place 1-16. The losers of the quarterfinal go into the fifth place bracket. If we get past Russia, we are guaranteed at least two more games after that.

Lithuania is officially on the USA side of the bracket. The knockout matchup will be in the semifinals and not the final... I hope we win even more just to piss off the moronic Lithuanians talking crap on the FIBA website...
