  1. Croatia wins 87-85. Mitchell with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block in 14:30.
  2. USA takes the lead 76-75 with 3:40 left. EDIT: Make that 80-75 USA. Timeout Croatia with 3:35 left. The USA has outscored Croatia 17-5 in the 4th quarter. EDIT #2: 83-82 USA with 1:13 left. Timeout USA.
  3. 73-69 Crotia with 5:30 left. Mitchell just got back into the game and threw down a dunk after an offensive rebound.
  4. Croatia wins 87-85. Mitchell with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block in 14:30. Click here to view the article
  5. I'm sure they are just going to give him a full "academic scholarship" for his sit out year....
  6. I get what you are saying, but my point is that with the volatility of input costs (mostly upswing in the last year or so of commodities and building supplies) comparing our $78 million price tag to the UH estimated $120 million pricetag really just doesn't work. When the UH stadium goes up, they will (unless China disappears off the planet earth) be getting a lot less for the $$$ than UNT. They will be spending more, so I'm not saying it won't be nice, or as nice as UNT, or whatever...we really can't make that sort of comparative judgement anyway until the UH stadium is actually built. People knock the UNT pricetag on the stadium, but we really just got lucky with the time we "got in". It is much like how Southwest Airlines made a good bet on oil a few years back and was able to keep their prices low. Due to the lower costs at the time NT acquired the materials contracts for the stadium, NT was basically hedged against inflation and higher costs. Others have also mentioned the topographic advantages and open land we have as well. Here is an article about Southwest Airlines and their oil bet that paid off: LA Times
  7. There is a Tony Mitchell block right after the :50 second mark.
  8. I have seen this BS argument from a lot of people, but I do not think you made it with any malintent. UNT got extremely lucky with the timing of the building of the football stadium. At the time UNT "got in" to building the stadium, construction costs were extraordinarily low. What we built would cost significantly more than $78 million dollars if we were just starting to build today. I'm sure the Houston stadium will be nice, but don't act like it is going to be in a different league or something, especially when the material costs are going to be much more expensive when you guys begin construction.
  9. The USA win, paired with the Croatia loss to Serbia has clinched the top spot in group F for the USA. That means our side of the bracket will be E4, E2, and F3. The really important thing is to avoid Lithuania until the final...for that to happen, we pretty much need to beat Croatia. Our semifinal opponent though (assuming we get past the 4th place team out of group E) will likely either be Lithuania, Serbia, or Croatia, who are all very strong teams.
  10. Are we sure he is still eligible to play at the U-20 level? EDIT: Nevermind. He is eligible.
  11. FIBA does their championships a little weird. The next three games for the USA are: July 4th - Canada July 5th - Lithuania July 6th - Croatia We are in a group with those three teams (that progressed through group C) and the two other teams (Egypt and Serbia) that advanced from our group. The results from the first round spill over, INCLUDING the results against teams eliminated from the tournament. In our case that game is the win against China, and for the teams from group C, their games against Korea count toward this next stage. The teams froms groups A and B are in a six team group of their own, and the top 4 teams from each group progress to the knockout round. Due to the USA being the only team left undefeated in the tournament, we are currently at the top of Group F. Canada appears to be pretty bad...we all know Lithuania is good because they beat us last week, and Croatia took down Lithuania in the first game in group C, so they must have a decent team as well. Here is a link to the standings going into this next stage: FIBA Website
  12. Great game! I wish Wambach could've gotten a goal in for some confidence, but hopefully she will step it up in the more crucial games to come. I know a lot of people think women's soccer is a joke, but it is pretty fun to watch, they are pretty good (#1 in the world), and it isn't painful to watch like the WNBA is... As far as the attractiveness of the players...I have always like Alex Morgan.
  13. Egypt somehow took down China in the other group A game today 100-96.
  14. So, I'm guessing the change in topic title means we want a different thread for each game?
  15. In the other Group A game today Serbia defeated the dirty commies from China 78-73.
  16. There is something really intriguing about this picture, but I can't put my finger on it. I wish I could just hop into it and walk around for awhile.
  17. The first USA game vs. Egypt is almost over. It appears that live stats are going to be available for all games. There are only 3 minutes left in this one, but here is the link: Live Stats The USA is up 107-56. Tony Mitchell has 7 points and 9 rebounds right now. EDIT: The game is over. USA 115 Egypt 60 Tony Mitchell: 7 points 3/7 from the field for 43% 1/3 from the FT line for 33% 10 rebounds (5 off. and 5 def.) 3 assists 4 blocks 0 turnovers This post has been promoted to an article

  19. How about another soccer thread! The Women's World Cup is being hosted by Germany. The USA is the #1 ranked team in the world of women's soccer, so it has a different "feeling" than the men's world cup. The USA just finished their first game of the tournament a few minutes ago...the result: United States 2-0 North Korea Next Game: Colombia on Saturday Go USA!
  20. I'm sure that having to worry about the behavior of the mexican fans does keep a lot of the USA fans away. The hatred for the USA from these people goes deeper than soccer. Before the WC Qualifier in Mexico City in August 2009, somewhere around 70% of mexicans said that their national pride was at stake if they were to lose the game (The US lost 2-1 after taking an early lead). In the end though, you are completely right....the dynamic is something that I don't personally understand, and never will, probably becuase we are "outsiders". I don't think it should happen though. There has to be some tangible reason that there is large portion of the American population with allegiance to other countries. The baffling part is that if mexico is so awesome, why do some statistics say as much as 10% of their actual population is living in the United States. Anyways, it all goes back to how important people consider their heritage, and then the whole melting pot/tossed salad debate...I think we are a tossed salad, and that is not how it is supposed to be...
