  1. The "Duke Atterbury" thing is pretty funny. Yes, the head coach is responsible for the discipline on this team, and he did go with Flannigan again this year as OC. I just have to be torqued at someone for how bad this team is. If I go with the head coach, then the whole thing starts to unravel. I have to start yelling "Throw the freakin ball, Dickey" and "Sure, 3rd and 17...let's run left behind our 268 lb left tackle!"... I promised to give DD a pass this year on that stuff, and so far I am hanging in there. (a couple of minor slip-ups at the Troy game) I would rather trust that Darrell Dickey has demonstrated several times in the past that he knows what he is doing? IF that is the case, then the offensive play-calling had to be the problem...at least for Troy and the debacle at FIU today. If DD did take over the play calling, and we still looked that bad, then yes...we have a problem at the top. I'm trying my best to be loyal to the Four time Conference COTY, even when the team struggles this way. Nothing wrong with questioning what is going on, but we did win, so how do I throw a rock at the head coach? Not something I can do...no matter how bad the win...it was a win. Oh yeah, as for the reality check on what they were doing today? Here's hoping I get a chance to say "See, DD was just saving J-Mo for LSU"........yeah. GMG!!!
  2. True, but how do they rank in penalties? We may be approaching the title on that one too... GMG!!!
  3. I'll always take up for Coach Dickey...but cant do the same for Flanny. I was on record as saying he should have been gone after last year. I know a win is a win, but this offense is horible. I hope Meager gets it figured out soon or this defense will wear out... (8 turnovers for 13 points....great) GMG!!!
  4. 8TH turnover....we need points this time boys!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Strange that the MGRN isnt up and running on the KNTU website? I checked it and could not get it to work either? Oh well....listening on the WORD 100.7 GMG!!!
  6. 13th Friggin penalty.......we may break some school record. DD has to do something about this crap!!! GMG!!!
  7. Turnover #7....at least the D is working!!!! GMG!!!
  8. Problem isnt receivers, guys...I'm listening to the game. Now have our 6th turnover and can get the offense going. We need Meager to grow up a little faster. It might also help if J-mo gets just a carry or two more per game???? (we have now bee penalized 12 times.......this is ridiculous) GMG!!!
  9. Exactly. HAHA...yeah, I'm very concerened about this sudden loss of credibility. I have been, and will remain on the "Darrell Dickey" band wagon. I (along with many others here) believe he will right the ship, but it may not be this season. A four-time Bowl Game level coach gets patience from some of us. However, Lifer demonstrates what happens when the "What have you done for me lately" crowd gets fired up. We now have a winning tradition at North Texas, and that's basis enough to expect to win every year. Sure, but you can thank Darrell Dickey for that. I am simply a realist... No one sweeps their conference every season. Dickey-coached teams did it four years straight? Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno, Bob Stoops, and Darrell Dickey. They all have down years, regardless of what conference they are in. If those fans can be loyal to their coaches during down years, I think we owe it to our FOUR TIME CONFERENCE COACH OF THE YEAR to be loyal also. There are some on this board who throw stones and want to chops heads, but I see no mention of where these "many good coaches for $220,000" are that can replace Coach Dickey? I dont see one out there unless we go asst. at another program (that's not better than a four time conf. coach of the year), or a prominant head coach from a high school with no skins on the wall. (still not as good as Dickey) FFR had a good list...but at what price? Todd Dodge would likely cost a lot more than $220K. (speculation of course) Lifer, this is a board of opinions.. There is no "credibility" to gain or lose. You show the negativeness...now show us you can write something helpful. If you say Dickey has to go..okay. Tell us "Mr. Pillar of Credibility" who his replacement could be that would give you another four championships? In the meantime...Read Emmitt's post and get a grip. Darrell Dickey is not going anywhere. Oh, and by the way, Kelvin Martin is a great guy and a very good football coach. I and my son spent many summer practices talking to him and watching him work with our young receivers. (he even worked extra with Robert Harmon to make more of a receiver versus blocker out of him. I would say that paid off) We also got to spend a some time talking with Kmart at the Union. The man is a motivator and a proven winner. Yes, he made a mistake... and that may be an issue with him ever coaching again. If I'm the AD at North Texas and DD does leave my program, I serously consider giving Kelvin Martin a shot. Everyone deserves a second chance and that guy was something special with the players. (even Coach Dickey said so)I really dont know how that works as far as the NCAA rules. I do know this.. before you toss the credibilty card out again....try getting your point across with some form of reason? That's how most of us stay loyal when the team isnt having a good year. We have faith in Darrell Dickey...and you used to? Not so easy when the team is losing is it? No hard feelings..all are opinions. I'm out. GMG!!!
  10. There is no replacement for DD at $220K. HOWEVER...If you are willing to take a chance, and want the offense opened up....find Kelvin Martin and give the reigns to him. Yeah, he had a little bit of a drug problem. He is supposedly over that now and is clean. If he could teach George Marshall to catch the stinkin ball...(and he also coached Johnny Quinn as a Freshman).. ANYTHING is possible. He would also bring instant attention to this program. Not sure whether that is a good thing or not, but there is no such thing as bad press on Sportscenter. Kmart also knows pro-style offenses having played in a couple of good ones. (Cowboys and Eagles). Johnny Quinn and Roy Covington would become 1000 yard guys each. I would hope we are able to keep Darrell Dickey, but Kmart would be my pick as a replacement. Especially at the price we could afford for a new head coach? Okay...fire away. But, if you are going to shoot down my pick you have to have a suggestion of your own. GMG!!!
  11. How about that, Hope??? Congrats to the all of the Soccer gals...great job!!! New soccer complex is ready in about a week. Cant wait to see them play in it.. I dont know much about soccer, but someone can fill me in. GMG!!!
  12. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, had to be done. GMG!!!
  13. Good article, but I'm not so sure we are ready to pull the plug on Meager. The kid has made some HUGE misakes, true...but we need to know where this kid can take us. If he comes apart again, then you give Phillips a shot in the second half. Meager was something special at Pierce, and I just think that talent will start to show at some point? Here's hoping he shows it to FIU. I expect Quinn and Cobbs to help this kid get it all figured out. Other young QB's have found themselves in the Dickey-ball offense. The coaching staff has been right before (#11 in your last few years programs), so I'll ride the wave of hope with them for now. I do believe we should have seen Phillips in the second half of the Troy game, and Coach Dickey said he would play him? Meager was having a really bad day, but did run for a score. We need a QB to emerge for this offense to work. Who that will be...we'll know soon enough. I think we have other issues on offense besides who's throwing the ball. We need someone besides Quinn to be willing to catch the freakin ball if it gets to them. (Drops are just crazy lately? Even Stickler is dropping passes, and I dont think he dropped a single ball during two-a-days???) Oh well...Ce' la Vie. Bring on FIU. GMG!!!
  14. Not sure why I'm responding to another one of these, but let's do this again... What does ANY coach have to do to get faith from their fans? Darrell Dickey hasnt JUST won four straight conference titles...he has brought this university back from "football-flatline". Yes, we have lost a few games this year and it hurts to watch. Guess what... this happens at EVERY program. We finally have the luxury of complaining about a losing season, and replacing the head coach is the best we can do? Guys...common sense has to prevail here. 1. For those of us who have had to suffer through bad Big West and SLC days...we are NIGHT and DAY beyond that now. When a Toby Gowin 90-plus yard punt is the highlight of your season...you arent seeing good football. One losing season after four winning seasons in Division-1A, and you want to replace a Four time conference coach of the year? Not me..I've seen the other side. 2. If anyone would have told me in 2000 that we would go to even ONE bowl game, I would have annointed Dickey a Saint! He takes us to FOUR, and less than a year later he is on the hot seat in Denton, Texas? Nope...not unless Mike Leach has already agreed to take a HUGE paycut to replace him. 3. Be careful what you wish for... Darrell Dickey is the real thing, and we have all seen that for ourselves. We do not have the luxury of being "What have you done for us lately" kind of fans? We have to have faith in DD simply becuase he is the best coach we could have. Who knows what you would get for a replacement? Once he's gone, there's no getting him back. When he starts winning at Baylor or SMU, or wherever...some of you would feel a little ridiculous. That's not exactly speculation, he won here. 4. I know we should expect more from our team. OOC wins and conference titles are realistic expectations for us now. But let's be realists... This is a VERY young team, and Harry is right. Please re-read his post and know the truth when you see it. Darrrell Dickey has done more for this program in five years than anyone else you could ever get here. At his present salary (roughly $250K), you are getting a steal with this head coach. Please tell me who comes here for that? If you are talking about paying for a more-prominent coach, okay...where does that money come from? Enough of that. I have faith in this coach, and I was right there with you guys a few years ago. DD has proven he wants to win as bad as we do. Give this team a year and lets see where the improvement happens. If, at the end of the season, we have made no progress...then you can behead whoever you want. I wont be a part of that, but you'll have stronger stance. I dont know of a head coach who could have beaten Tulsa with what we have on the field right now? But you guys go get him. As for me... I know, I'm a Darrell Dickey L&A. (Thanks for the email, by the way)..hehe That rhymed...now if I could only spell? GMG!!!
  15. The "promotions" thing cracks me up. GMG!!!
  16. Count me in...plus a few. Pierow, you up for this one...hehe (Cheri is busy thinking...."cruise, cruise, cruise"....) GMG!!!
  17. Not sure if we have been reading the same GMG board? MOST of the fans and alums are very much behind Darrell Dickey. There are always a few who throw out the sword for DD to fall on after the start of each season, but this year has been different. For one, most of the threads (not all, of course) support his work here, but want to see some improvement. Who doesnt? I also look at it like this; a Tuesday night game after two blow-out losses would have brought in a crowd of about 9,000 in the past. Almost 18,000 in Fouts for that game shows the support this University and Fans has for DD. Dont misread a few negative comments and suggest MOST vocal fans want him fired? That is simply not the case. Many of us understood a down year is possible with a Newbie-QB and a brand new defensive front four? That does not mean we are okay with losing, but we understand no one wins their title every year. We just have to have faith in Darrell Dickey...he has earned that. (a comment from FFR that I happen to agree with) Be patient with DD and this team. This is a coach that has deliverred on his promises. We havent given up on him yet. Building a team takes time...for any school, but DD will get this team together. We just hope it will be this year. GMG!!!
  18. Wow...everyone's jumping on you? I dont think they get the humor in your post. Crowd attendance and Fouts Field were both BETTER than expected? Okay, you didnt like much of anything else either... Why UT? If your going to jump ship, go for Texas State...or SMU? They have exactly what you are looking for, and they need your support. Also remember that burn-orange color looks terrible on anything except UT jerseys. Texas State and SMU at least have cool colors? SMU would be a better choice. They are a C-USA powerhouse and you could see better QB play, better attendance, and more experienced athletes. Now honestly, I cant see what your problem is with the band? So they play our fight song at the wrong time...they are into the game and enthusiastic. UT has a band that plays "I've been working on the railroad" everytime Vince Young runs for a first down? By the fourth quarter you'll feel like you have been locked in a room with Martha Stewart...no amount of therapy can fix that, man. Oh well...to each his own, right? I say lay off of the ole Gamebreaker. He has a keen mind for sports and knows exactly what he wants to see. I commend him for his bravery!!! (Oh, sorry GB....before I forget, I cant make the knitting class Friday night..but thanks for the invite. I'm sure the skirt will look great!) GMG!!!....'take your shots at the stadium if you want, but NO ONE insults this defense while my VERY DISTANT cousin Isaac Thomas wears #91. (YES, my adopted player...and NO, we're not really cousins)
  19. I dont know who SpaceMonkey is, but that may be the best thing I've seen written on this board in a while. Drew was a special kid....period. Things happen in life that shouldnt...no way around that. Look at the positives and try to make things around you better. MOST of us do that better now. SpaceMonkey....find me at the next tailgate and you get the first freebie. (that really sounds worse than intended)...hehe GMG!!!
  20. Well said, Matt. By the way, that is one good looking kid. Dickey ball is not going anywhere. We just need to do some things better. Here's hoping it happens sooner than later... GMG!!!
  21. Not so much apologies as explanations. There are NO teams...not even in the mighty Big-XII that win their conferences every year? And want to talk about a sweep of a conference? The odds against that, even in the Slump-Belt, are pretty slim. Darrell Dickey has given us FOUR conference titles and FOUR bowls. Yes, that gets him some loyalty and patience in my book. The simple fact is every team has down years. Dickey can only go with what he has. As a passionate NT fan you must have been at the game. Dickey didnt drop those passes or throw those picks? If Brock Stickler makes that catch and scores, is your opinion the same today? If Quinn doesnt fumble that punt and takes it to the house, are you writing this today? I understand your passion for this program, and I hope we are all as dedicated, But let's be realists. Many of us have been through far worse teams in the years prior to Dickey getting here. No Bowl game in 50 years prior to Dickey...then 4 in a row? I'm willing to give the guy some time to do what he needs to. This team is learning to compete, but there are hurdles left to go. I am on board with trying to win every game, but let's not lose focus. The winning attitude can be taught in a day, being in the right place...or making good reads takes a bit more time. Time we have......patience, that will take a little more effort from all of us. Just a passing thought from a Dickey apologist... GMG!!!
  22. Wow? I hope that was for shock value????? GMG!!!
  23. BINGO.... No questions left. Dickey is doing his part. This team chemistry and skill will need more time. Meager will need more time. This defensive front four (still no Isaac Thomas???) will need more time. And I will need more.....Tylenol and rum. GMG!!!
  24. Well spoken. Most are still very much with this team. They are very young and some of us expected a down year this season with so much inexperience. I think I am going to have to differ with you on a point or two...but you are right on the money with your support. 1. Meager does not appear to be getting better... IF the Troy DB's and linebackers could catch, Meager would not have had the ball to run for that TD. On that drive alone a linebacker dropped the first INT, then the free safety dropped another sure INT. Meager could very well have thrown 5 picks last night. We were all commenting that he is throwing now without making his reads? Three times into three-man coverage, and on the second pick Danny threw into tripple-coverage? I watched some of the game-replay last night on ESPN and the commentators were as confused as we were? That does not mean I've given up on Danny, but he clearly struggled last night reading defenses. That is not a problem he has had before? 2. Balanced attack: Yes, from a game-planning standpoint you are right. But how many times last night did Troy stack 9 men in the box and we ran into it? I know there is a fine line between the gameplan versus what Meager can audible out of. However, the plays are apparently run "as-called" regardless of what the defense shows him? Maybe "balance" is not the word for our offense here..."predictable" may be better. 3. Coach Dickey has suggested that Matt Phillips will get some playing time, but we have yet to see him, other than the last couple of drives in K-State. Is DD worried that a move like that could hurt Meager's confidence? OR maybe Phillips is not as ready as we were told? I have already accepted that this is the "Year of Learning" for this young team. I can live with it..really. I trust in Coach Dickey, and expect next years team to be better. This year, show me some improvement...and the Defense is starting to do that. Now we need to shore-up the run D, and get the passing game on track. Someone might also tell TJ not to jam a receiver downfield if the play is over... GMG!!!
  25. I honestly believe we see the re-emergence of Jamario Thomas tomorrow night. This is a nationally televised game and a conference game. Coach Dickey takes those games even more serious than the others. I dont know that he would pull PC from the starting lineup, but you can bet J-Mo will get some more carries. The wild card in this whole deal is still the offensive line. Troy blitzes almost as much as Tulsa. The OL better get it's act together quickly. They have to start jelling eventually? Who knows, this week could start another run to the title. OR... we could lose by 30 and start another run to the Beer Barn. Either way, I'm not putting too much stock in this season. It's a young team and growing pains are a part of it. I honestly want to see what Coach Dickey does with this talent next season. Just play the Troy game to win and let the chips fall where they may. In the mean time, I'll have beer and Rum in the cooler; here's hoping Flannigan has his cooler stocked too... GMG!!!
