  1. I feel very good about the offense. (who doesnt?) The line will be good if Lineberry isnt there. I like what having Jason May back in the fold does for us. I do have worries about the defensive front four. Workouts will tell a lot. We need Ransome to be a wild man from the DE spot. I still think Chapman is going to be good, but we need a speed guy to pass rush. I believe Isaac Thomas to be the real thing, and the Big Cat will have a huge impact at 320lbs, but who else? (Miller, Pruitt, Stevenson?) I think we have some issues at DL this year that has not been the case in the past. DEPTH...not as great. Linebacker we are really good. (more speed than size, and that works for me) Monroe, Mendoza, and Graves have good range and speed. Mahan is fast, and Early will be back eventually. Not sure about Holman or Colbert, but both looked good in the spring. Secondary..the question is not so much at the other corner. Branch looked very good in the spring, and that guy is hitting like he is 6-0. I still wonder about Free safety. With Harrison gone, we need Cotton or the Juco to shine. Both are new to the system at safety. Oh well, at least we are close enough to the season we can hear the band warming up... GMG!!!
  2. Good wallpaper...thanks ipEagle!!! GMG!!!
  3. I would love to dispute some of that....but he is pretty close to right on. I have the game LSU-45 - North Texas 17. I would love to be wrong on this one, but my focus will be to survuve the LSU game, and stay healthy for MTSU. I know a lot of people wont like that, but 9-2 or 8-3 still gets us to the Big Easy. This team still succeeds this season whether LSU beats us by 7 or 40, so the game just doenst mean much to me. I dont like losing either, but a 1-1 start to this season works for me. Just please no injuries in Baton Rouge... Thanks for the post, Harry. GMG!!!
  4. Lots of hostility lately???? Looks like some people need to calm down a bit. We still have had no official word, even though all the pointers seem to be true. Emmitt is right on this one. Let's give DD and RV a chance to do some damage control and then see where we are, before we deal with the loss. I have already started Meager in my NCAA 06 and he was 7 of 9 for 228 yards and two scores to Quinn. (If it happens on XBOX, it must be true) Meager will be ready...and I still think he is the man to lead this team anyway. The kid is for real... if we can just keep him on the field. Yes, Byerly will be missed, but we dont have an official word from the team yet, so I'm in denial until the Mean Green Flag is posted at half-mast. As for the tension... I think a night at Riprocks will fix that.. I'm in!!! GMG!!!
  5. Well?, the good side is they did say something good about North Texas. The bad side...just about eveything else he wrote is true. He does have a point in the new additions to the Belt. I think the jury is still out on FAU but they did turn some heads last year. FIU will have a rough couple of years to wade through. As for the Belt in general, I like what we have versus what is going on in the WAC. That move would have been a disaster for us. Conference re-allignment was a twice-beaten dead horse, but I can only imagine what most writers would have been printing about us if we had made it to C-USA. Oh well, such is life... In the mean time, I just scheduled the week of December 20th off for vacation. I am confident one sports article will hardly change the way the Sunbelt Conference is seen by others. But I take pleasure in the obvious...We are a Division-IA conference, and we are the Four-Time Conference Champions. There is NOTHING wrong with that. He can keep his "similarly pathetic" issues to himself. GMG!!!
  6. XBOX graphics are unbeatable. The speed is also really good. No bogging down playing live. Brother in law has PS2 and complains about lagging online? It could be his hi-speed connection I guess, but I have not had those issues. GMG!!!
  7. Thought for the day: "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die." Mel Brooks GMG!!!
  8. Chad Rose will be the man. Lineberry and Brown are good, but Rose will be a stud. Still a little worried about left tackle. Foster is a very good technical blocker, but at 268? I see Jason May getting that spot if all works out. d ont rule out true freshman Adjani Banks. He is 6-3 / 325lbs. I could see him playing significant time this season. If I was to guess at it, I would say... LT- Jason May (6-4/ 295lbs) LG-Adjani Banks (6-3/ 325lbs) C- Chad Rose (6-3/ 285lbs) RG-Dylan Lineberry (6-3/ 330lbs) RT- Jeremy Brown (6-5/ 300lbs) Could be the biggest, most talented offensive line we have had in some time. (yes, I miss Zuniga, Turney and Bense too) I think we are okay here. GMG!!!
  9. I have sources that say TJ Covington is inelligible this season. He has decided to work this season at the Rave Movie theatre. I can see that... "Give me your ticket, boy... WHAT, you dont want me to tear it?, Oh I'm gonna tear it!!!...You aint never had a ticket torn like this!!!!....you watchin me??????....DONT YOU LOOK AWAY....cause I'm TEARIN IT RIGHT NOW....HERE IT COMES, SUCKA....IT'S OVER!!!!!!" GMG!!!
  10. I dont know about his eligibility, but I heard his height and weight were GREATLY exhaggerated. Actual player stats... Joey Byerly (QB) 5-11 / 188lbs. Zach Muzzy (WR) 6-3 / 225lbs. Dylan Lineberry (OL) 6-7 / 475lbs. Emmitt Jackson (QB) 5-11 / 185 (runs a 4.6 when chasing a suspect; runs into walls when chasing a rum and coke)... GMG!!!
  11. I dont think Bishop was moved. The same thing happened on last years practice roster. I think that list was just updated with new players. He was listed as a WR last year, but still played RB. He is a really good kid, but I would move him to LB. When we hear "fumble recovered by Roy Bishop", it can be a good thing. GMG!!!
  12. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more...please???? I'll even read GG's SMU bashing...just please no more QB talk. GMG!!!
  13. The Gamestop across from the Irving Mall is having a midnight release party, and yes, Chris and I will be there. I've never been to one of these, so this should be fun. Chris is really looking forward to it, but he is 11..staying out late is gold to a kid that age. I sure wish they did this at 9:00 PM when they close, but who cares? Closest sign that North Texas football is around the corner. Works for me... GMG!!!
  14. NT vs. Tulane? Not a bad matchup. I'm still hoping for Memphis or So. Miss, but I take the revenge factor a bit too much into account. The "Green Wave" is a local favorite, and the crowd would be much bigger. Should we get them, and beat them... I'm not sure how safe Bourbon Street would be after the game???? Hmmm, we would have to go down there and get drunk in large groups. (for safety reasons, of course..) Then again, we already do that... GMG!!!
  15. Need OL's big time. We can never have too many OL's that could step start in an emergency. Our starting left tackle is 268lbs for pete's sakes... Art McNac is almost that big at Linebacker? I see the injury bug circling that side of the line for sure. GMG!!!
  16. I voted for Mean Joe...but if Norah Jones wants to sit by me, I'm not complaining. GMG!!!
  17. [" No talent...? You've got to be kidding. How sorely mistaken will that opinion be this season. It will be even more fun if your team believes this stupid notion. "]...posted by Ktulu7 No need for taking this personally? These are just opinions. Most of us really like La-Tech and that football program. Jack Bicknell is a good coach and a class act. You have plenty of talent on one side of the ball. I like Freddie Franklin and think he is a huge addition to your offense, which will be very good again. (may also be the best offensive line in the WAC) But let's be realistic, your defense still lacks a pass rush, and has issues with deep pass coverage. You have a great linebacker in Santiago, and I think Barry Robertson is a breakout player this year. The question with your program is always pass rush, and not having one. Timmy Chang (after the Hawaii game last year...I watched it on satelite) said the difference between your teams was simply he had time to find a receiver, and your QB (Kubik, I think) didnt. Your best players recruited are generally on the offensive side (RB-Ryan Moats, RB-Freddie Franklin last year, RB-Patrick Jackson this year) and still no real focus on defensive? Yes, you guys signed Marquis Spurgon to play safety, but in the 3-4 defense your guys are using for the first time, he will need to play free-safety and pass cover? Ruffins is a run stopper, Ladarius Love is a 330lb run stopper, and Winbush will be playing outside DE? He is quick, but at 255 lbs, in the 3-4, he will face every huge Offensive Tackle you guys play? We play you in your house this year, and I am looking forward to that game. Both our teams running backs will be make that game a good one to watch. It will be great road-trip!!! See you October 22nd... GMG!!!
  18. LSU 48- UNT 10 L (Cobbs and Thomas play three minutes each..then watch the National Champs play) MTSU 21- UNT 45 W (Quinn goes for 188 rec.yards and two TD's/ Branch cheap-shots THEM for a change) TULSA 14- UNT 34 W (J-Mo gets 175 yards/ Cobbs 110/ Isaac Thomas gets two sacks and held more than a newborn) K-STATE 34- UNT 21 L (J-Mo gets 220 yards/ Cobbs gets a TD on a kickoff return/ Medpilot gets a migrane) TROY 24- UNT 44 W (Marcus Ware is gone...Cobbs gets 140/ J-Mo gets 230 and 2 TD's) FIU 14- UNT 42 W (Welcome to D1-A...Quinn gets 2 rec. TD's/ Covington gets first int-TD return) LaTech 21- UNT 27 W (Freddie Franklin is for real, but no match for J-Mo's 255 yards) LALA 24- UNT 31 W (That offense will score points...TJ Raymond will score a knock-out in the third) LA-MON 28- UNT 31 W (Close game....this could be an upset, but I think Cobbs and J-Mo carry us) FAU 20- UNT 34 W (Quinn takes out last year's loss on their secondary...3 TD's, then still pummels Obure on our sideline....man that was funny) ASU 21-UNT 45 W (Ark. State is much improved on Offense, but defense is still "Sucksville....population- THEM) NEW ORLEANS BOWL.......Memphis.....WIN (35-21) Just an opinion.....GMG!!!
  19. Not much into arguing, but Stebo is right on the money. We go into LSU with the notion of hanging in there and giving it our best shot, but we dont take undue risk. I would love to beat them, but that fact is we dont match up at all. Take the check, get some guys big-game experience who may not see the field for the rest of the season, and prepare for MTSU. We have our shots at Tulsa and LA-Tech for OOC wins. You dont risk your star players against Godzilla... you risk them in games where they can use their stregths to win. Injuries are likely in Baton Rouge, and I would absolutely play that game to walk away healthy.... GMG!!!
  20. Gamestop in Irving said also the 12th, but will give it to me on the 11th. Waiting paitiently......while my 2004 version is wearing out. GMG!!!
  21. Nice to hear the freshman are getting the message. Now if that translates to attendance, and they dont learn some of the old bad habbits. (ie drink in parking lot while game is being played) I like the direction the student involvement is going. The Talons could make a big difference for these kids.. Get them involved and into the stadium!!! GMG!!!
  22. ["although I agree that Middle will defeat UNT this year. Just too many holes to fill and unknown factors at QB for UNT to deal with by the second game of the year. "]...posted by pUNT Uh...ok? I am trying really hard to find a scheme that works for MTSU to contain the last two nations leading rushers? Marcel Horne is there, and is a good LB, but he can only play one side of the defense? They have a good front four (Erik Walden being the best of those at DE..6 sacks last year, and an offensive guard learning to play defensive tackle - Quinton Stanton?) There is some ability there, but they are facing Cobbs and Thomas every down? Those guys need to time to learn the positions and schemes, and we get them in week 2. I just dont see how they pull this one out. Last year Colorado had a far better defense than MTSU, and J-Mo smoked them for over 200 yards? Forget what MTSU has to do on defense.. Say they stop Cobbs...AND J-Mo.....AND Quinn..(with the worst pass defense in the conference...definitely the MTSU weakness) What happens on offense? How does that offense score points? Clint Marks is still there at QB, and I like the way he plays... but he needs help? Their best RB is the fullback? Last year their starting tailback (Gross) ran for a whopping 412 yards, and that guy is the starter again this year. Marks may want to start throwing the ball more...but who catches it? Kerry Wright is gone, and he had all the catches last year? They only had 15 TD passes all year, and Kerry Wright caught 11 of them. www.collegefootballnews.com/sun_belt/2005_Previews/MTSU_offense.htm I just dont see it. If I had to pick an in-conference loss, it would be ULM. They have improved big time this year (they are the ones who recruited and signed Aaron Schutz (OL: 6-3/305) from right here in Fort Worth) and have the offense to score points. If Jyles gets over his off-season legal issues, he makes that team scary. He reminds me of Kordell Stewart. That is all... GMG!!!
  23. sorry guys.... Had no idea that would be soooooo long????????? GMG
  24. Last word was that we have no clue about any of it yet, but we dont usually hear anything until the season is close. As it turns out, a new QB has emerged in summer workouts. Yes, EMMITT JACKSON has stepped into the starting role as QB for the Mean Green offense. Here are some of the Q&A's from the press conferrence; Opening statement: DD: "This is a great day for North Texas Football. I'm proud to announce that Emmitt Jackson has agreed to walk on to the Mean Green program as a quarterback, and will play a significant role this season. He will continue to work his shift at the Dallas Police Department, at least for a couple of weeks. I expect him to be game ready by LSU. Reporter: Coach Dickey, The scouts and coaches for your upcoming opponents were expecting to see Joey Byerly or Daniel Meager under center. How does this change their approach so close to the season, and will this affect the defenses other teams have been working on? DD: Well this will really throw some of them off. Preparation is the key to success. EJ will run out there to take the snap, and the LSU defensive coordinator will yell something like..."24 snap...blitz, uh?, who the hell is that guy?" Reporter: Coach, there are rumors that Emmitt has been seen drinking before games the past few seasons...does this worry you? DD: I think Emmitt Jackson is a good fit for this team, but I'm a little concerend about his alcohol consumption levels..of course. He is an active-duty police officer, which makes him a great guy and that says a lot about him. I havent seen him with alcohol, but all those stories must have some truth. I've talked to him, and feel he can control the amount of beer he drinks... I'm not so sure about the Jack Daniels. Reporter: Do you think signing Emmitt could be considerred a distraction to the progress of the other, younger QB's? DD: I dont think his play could be considerred a distraction, but his drinking habits could be a negative influence on some of the other players? I just got the team over getting hammered in New Orleans once a year, and now they will want to go drink with Emmitt on weekends. His leadership is unquestioned, and his ability to make plays is a neccessity..but I really dont want the team to see him dry-heaving at practice. Reporter: What changes would you have to make in this offense to work with Emmitt's strengths and weaknesses? DD: I guess I will ask the center to direct-snap the ball to Cobbs or Jamario when EJ feels sick, which would take the burden of calling cadances off his shoulders. I might have done that anyway this year, so no real concern there... Emmitt will never volutarily come out of a game...we know that. I would rather have Emmitt tell us when he needs a break, but we have a system worked out for that. When he doubles over, or starts talking about the greatness of Barry Manillow, he's either hurt or dilusional...we snap to Jamario. Reporter: You've expressed concerns about the team not taking practices as seriously as they have in the past. Do you think that is the case with Emmitt in there? DD:Well, I dont know if that's the case?..The atmosphere is better with Emmitt in there...no question. But, his drinking does leave him open to some extra ribbing from the team. I hear players laughing in the huddle when Emmitt yells "who's ringing the cowbell?" I dont usually allow laughing in the huddle...I mean not usually. For summer workouts...it's not such a bad thing. Reporter:Emmitt looks to have real ability..and is impressive in the two minute drill. How do you think he is coming along? DD: These are just summer workouts with no pads.. My coaches are working with him everyday, and he shows a natural ability to move this offense. I cant say I like hearing him yell "Not so loud coach"..and put his hands over his ear holes when we send plays in from the sidelines? I'm not sure how we handle that one yet..maybe hand signals. Reporter: We all know Emmitt is a competitor and winner. Will he play only QB, or do you have other positions in mind for him? DD: Emmitt is a natural leader, and has some speed. I may also use him as a punt returner. We asked Muzzy to work with him on that one, but Zach kept saying something about how much easier this would be if the guy was sober? I dont think Emmitt was at full speed yet. We will continue to work on it... Reporter: Some of the media following this story have heard Emmitt talking smack to a few defensive players.. Do you think this is a part of his competitive nature, or is he just getting the team fired up? DD: I'm not really sure yet. The good side is the respect he gets from his offensive teammates. The bad side is the defensive players are asking if he has life insurance before each workout? Emmitt is going to trash talk.. and I have talked to him about rememberring how big TJ Raymond really is. It is not smart to pick on some guys. Reporter: When do you draw a line and pull back on the trash talk during workouts? DD: When T.J. Covington looks over at me and says "I cant believe he freakin said that?"....We may need to back things off a bit. Emmitt understands that we are all on one team out there. He just gets caught up in the moment. Reporter: How is the QB battle and lineup looking for the start of fall practices? DD: We will go into the fall practices with Emmitt as the starter, and let the others battle it out. Should "Big Show" Byerly or Meager step up, then I'm sure Emmitt would want what is best for the team. Cobbs left, Jamario right, post to Quinn. I think Reporter: What did Emmitt say when you approached him to play this year? DD: Emmitt actually came to us. He has been weighing the options each year, and every year he got closer to doing it. He did ask me if he could have a DVD player in his locker to watch "Dave Chappelle" episodes. I'm still not sure what that is all about, so I'm reluctant to go with it. We'll see when the season if off and running. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer: the preceeding post was brought to you by an exceedingly long off-season. If this had been an actual press conference..most of us would be panicking. GMG!!!
