I think Phillip McCan has a better overall resume.
Seymore Butts?

So I'm seeing lots of different recommendations from you guys and some of these guys are not likely (ahem: Ditka?), but some are definitely attainable. I think we may be able to combine the attainable ones into one supercoach.
How 'bout this Voltron coach?
Black Lion coach: Zombie Tom Landry - This guy calls all the shots and a fedora does not go on an arm or leg, so he has to be the Black Lion sub-coach.
Blue Lion coach: Ray - Ray is a lost Blue Heeler. He digs well, so this is good.
Red Lion coach: Half cat - Half cat is real close with George Dunham, so he is a shoo-in.
Green Lion coach: A racist - now some of you may not like this sub-coach, but lets give him 4 years to get his guys in here.
Yellow Lion coach: A dark horse - Haven't you seen those Budweiser commercials where the Clydesdale kicks a field goal? We could definitely use a coach geared towards kicking, and with 4 legs, sub-coach Dark Horse would be the most qualified.

Updated List:
Unrealistic:
Steve Kragthorpe - Former Louisville & Tulsa HC
Tommy Bowden - Former Clemson HC
Phillip Fulmer - Former Tennessee HC
Mike Leach - Former Texas Tech. HC
Mel Tjeerdsma - Northwest Missouri St. HC
Mickey Matthews - James Madison HC
Jeff Bower - Former S.Mississippi HC
Iffy:
Major Applewhite - Texas Asst.
Bill Callahan - Former Nebrask HC
Bryan Harsin - Boise St. Asst.
Dennis Franchione - Former New Mexico, TCU, Alabama, Texas A&M HC
Realistic:
Trooper Taylor - Auburn Asst.
Chris Thomsen - Abilene Christian HC
Lance Thompson - Tennessee Asst.
Lincoln Riley - ECU Asst.
I love that these guys are broken down into categories.
This is dumb.

If we make a bold move in bringing in Major Applewhite then we should consider ECU OC Lincoln Riley. He wasn't retained by Tuberville at Texas Tech and he was Leach's protege so he follow Ruffin McNeil to ECU. The offense has done great so far this season.
Major Applewhite: "Hi <fill in recruit's name>, I'm coach Applewhite, you may remember me growing up as a really good QB who was screwed over by Mack Brown in favor of that perpetual loser Chris Sims. You and your parents were probably big fans of mine growing up (parents are nodding along in agreement). Hey, how would you like to play for me at UNT? We could do big things...."
Lincoln Riley: "Hi <fill in recruit's name>, I'm coach Riley, you may or may not remember me from the few times I was mentioned during the 2010 Alamo Bowl (parents wheels spinning trying to recollect this). How would you like to come play in our new stadium?

Really? Any medical studies or research that you are basing your theories on?
Benny Jones: Got tackled and his leg folded under him.
That would be an example of bad luck. I haven't seen how any of the others occurred, but I had a knee injury in high school that was the result of being hit on the front of my leg just above the knee while my foot was planted in the turf. Led to a hyperextended knee. Not sure how conditioning would have prevented that from happening.
Truth is, torn ACL's can be caused by someone rolling up on a leg from any direction, planting a foot to make a cut and the foot sticks in the turf, etc... so blaming this on Coach Char is out of line.
I watched Brown's. He was juked hard on a kick return, committed one way, and then tried to change direction.
Some moron (what is it with section C?) was razzing him while down: "Oh, c'mon man! You didnt even touch him! Don't tell me you hurt yourself tackling air?!?"

That is a pretty good read. LOL!
Speaking of handwriting...
How many of you out there were subjected to punishment in grade school if you did not write in cursive? I would love to see what a handwriting expert has to say about my cursive handwriting. It looks like a concussed 6-year-old's writing. Although, my regular print handwriting is not much prettier.

I am really starting to believe that the Cubs and the Mean Green have alot in common...
I have this same feeling for some reason. Oh please no!
-
No, I do not agree, nor do I feel we will lose to Army.
There were actually a handful of people who predicted a loss to Rice. We'll see when the Army prediction thread pops up if that number goes up or down. I don't think we lose to Army either.

isokenetics, anyone?
How 'bout Combat Ki?
-
Yes it is. To date:
Tune: Out for year
Ford: Out for year
Jones: Out for Year
JJ Johnson: Out for year
Neal: Out for year
Cook: Out for year
Did I miss anyone?
We could get Ford back in 6 weeks or so.

This is obviously coach Gahagan's (and ultimately Dodge's) fault. It's Char's job to prepare these guys for the rigors of football.

But what if the construction workers start showboating after big projects? I hope we replace them with new workers; we don't need that selfish crap!
That one guy that wears the orange helmet is a hot dog. After every nail he puts in he does a pose, not to be confused with a celebration.
Just act like you've done this before. Hand the nailgun to the supervisor after you're done and go back to the trailer!

I don't understand why some of you guys seem to be more protective of Dodge than you are of the football program itself. I don't think those that are stating that Dodge needs to find a new job are so much against having Dodge as a coach as they are for having pride in the school. Personally, I think Dodge needs to pull a 180 ASAP or he should not come back to play in the new stadium. It is nothing against him. He seems like a great man and I have been behind him the entire time he has been head coach and will be until he is not here. But for the good of the school, I think some things should change.
Let's not let our love of Dodge get in the way of the pride we have for our school.
This is a fine line to walk, because when someone is employed by your school, even though they may not be an alum, they are a part of your school and they represent your school. So, you should get behind them. Right?
However, I believe you're right that we should not put a person over the welfare of the school. I think alot of people at Tech did this after Leach gave their school a black eye.

There goes my hero.
All my life I've been searching for cats... never leads to nothin.

...Thats when and how we lost the game...
Again, one series did not decide that game. Your argument is simply false.
-
reminds me of when the student section was screaming on our third down on the last drive. . .
but I thought about it again and remembered some linebacker saying that they like it when it is quiet. They can make their calls easier. So is it possible that our fanbase is just that knowledgeable?
Nah.
It remains bad fan etiquette to yell while your team is on offense.
Ignorance is the better word choice here.

I think the more important question is who will be the next head coach after the next one?
Thoughts?
Probably some undefeated jr. high hotshot up-and-coming coach.

and in response...there should have been one.
I would have signed that one too!

It only took four letters to create my favorite post of the day - and not the ones you'd think.
W-I-N-D?
-
They could've cut their show short to give our lettermen more recognition than that. I'm not saying it's the band's fault, they were just doing what they were told to do. I'm just saying those players deserve more than a half-hearted clap while they're standing on the 20.
I know I was on my feet. I saw alot of other people standing and cheering as well.
-
thank you.
or how about the band NOT playing at halftime so we can honor our 2000s football players a little better than we did. that was pretty sad the way that was handled. i could barely see the players on the jumbo-tron and couldn't even make out who all was there.
This is as un-American as women with hairy armpits. You need to apologize to the Green Brigade and HOPE that they forgive you for this atrocious recommendation.

Not much hard evidence at all...just seems to be more fun and a lot less stress to look for the positives. Besides, IT'S COLLEGE FOOTBALL...it's fun...it ain't the Battle of the Bulge, D-Day or Coal Harbor or the Alamo, it's college football!
Just think how much fun it will be if the seven wins come and some folks might have to drink a bit of that green kool-aid. If seven wins don't come, I'll be there supporting the next guy if it comes to that. No need with 2 games into the season to start the doom and gloom. Everyone here knows the drill and probably doesn't need anyone reminding them on a daily basis.
The bride and I had a great time Saturday. It would have been even better without the injury to Nathan and the loss.
It's transient kitsch... not the bloody Cuban missile crisis!

A bit tough? We're still waiting for Dodge to equal the 3-win season that got Dickey fired!
I stuck with UNT during the I-AA and Big West years.
Maybe it's not a flaw in personal character to eventually give up on a team that sucks in the worst conference in major college football. Supporting UNT is like going to the same restaurant for year after year hoping the food will get better. At a certain point, the problem's not with the restaurant. It's with you for being stupid enough not to demand any better.
This is a good illustration. Did you graduate from this restaurant? Did attending this restaurant for 4 years get you a degree that got you a nice carreer?
rcade, you are obviously a fan, or you wouldn't be on this board. Are you really going to jump ship now, or are you just saying that out of frustration?
That question could be asked to a few others on this board as well...

I also think the coaches like what they see out of Orr, Johnson, Herron, and others, so the depth at LB is solid.
