  1. I've said before that I'd rather have them in our conference, whether that be the WAC or the Sunbelt.

Given the recent Neinas report on the UNT Althetics, it looks like our conference will remain the 'Belt for a while.

So, in lieu of conference clashes, I hope we can schedule some OOC games with them. Gotta get a rivalry going, man.

I can definitely see this for TXSt, since we kind of already have one from the I-aa days, but why do we need to engage in a rivalry with UTSA? Let them create a rivalry with UTEP or some other UT system school.

  2. Hmmm. Well, that former offense coordinator didn't seem to be able to figure out how to break those low-ranked Sun Belt defenses, though, eh? And, he had three years to take a crack at them - 21 games, 2 wins?

What are we now 1-0 in the Sun Belt with Canales? I don't think it will take him 21 games to get us to two wins in the Sun Belt as it did with the pass-pass-pass-pass-regardless-of-the-opposing-defense Ford/Dodge combo.

In fact, I'm willing to wager. Anyone want to bet me that this offense under Mike Canales won't produce two Sun Belt wins in 2010 - and, thereby, equal Ford's three year total?

Also, here's a riddle for Batman and others similarly situated in league against the joker: which college team hired Ford after we let him go? I mean, based on his record against low-ranked, Sun Belt defenses someone surely was clamoring for his services. FBS-level? FCS? DII? DIII? NAIA? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

If Ford was still here, we'd have passed all day and FAU would have beaten us. Thankfully, sanity is restored with a college coach in Canales who can watch game film of an opposing Sun Belt defense and craft a game plan to beat it.

To be clear, I'm very happy we have Canales here. He's legit.

That being said, the above is kinda bunk. To say that Ford/Dodge did not run the ball is not correct. As a matter of fact, Riley was able to execute the zone-read so well on Saturday because he ran it over and over last year. I highly doubt it would have been pass-pass-pass-pass...as you stated.

Now would Ford have called the right pass plays at the right time so Darius would score twice? Doubtful.

  3. nope, why you jumping to conclusions....maybe YOU are worried about something. Read my posts here on GMG, I have been nothing but respectful.

    I appreciate your respectful nature...Absolutely.

Sorry if my tone was too mean (we are the MEAN GREEN). I'm just trying to understand your agenda here, and that post was a little suspect.

I had to jump to conclusions because "meep. meep." leaves so much to my wild imagination...just making sure the record was straight.

Good to have you here rabidrunner. My, what nice legs you have...

  4. meep meep!

What is the meaning of this post? Insinuating that we are being passed by? Is UNT supposed to be Wylie E. Coyote?

It's great that you have a strong allegiance to your school, but you should take off the Alamo-tinted glasses and understand that UTSA has not played a down of football and is at least 20 years behind where UNT is now, let alone where WE will be in 20 years.

The University of North Texas is terminating our contract with ACME products after this season (Fouts implosion) due to their inferior product. and will soon have the necessary tools to eat that stupid roadrunner.

    Mmmm...Roadrunner.

  6. Man, its so funny to see how things come around full circle. In 2006, we had post after post on this board about how Dickey's run-oriented offense was putting us all to sleep becasue of the boredom it caused amongst the fanbase and media. We fire him, hire TDodge, in part, because he would just "open it up on offense and air it out". Now, 4 years later, we are back to the Buick-style offense being put into place to steal a win. We live in interesting times as MG fans.

I wouldn't say we're running the same kind of offense that Dickey ran.

    Run-heavy? Sure.

    Buick-ball? No.

We're still running the ball out of the spread formation.

  7. Agreed with the top five sentiment...I feel there is a precipitous drop-off after UNT, ASU, WKU, USA and FAU.

I think USA and FAU are a toss up at this point. Both are deep and very well coached...FAU has more inside, USA has a lot more athleticism and versatility. I think they're both a notch below WKU in the East...and UNT and ASU in the West.

I think you can put an asterisk next to Denver at home as a top 5 team. Even without Rohnert (so they won't be good anywhere else), that team consistently wins at home.

  8. Question, who looks faster to you, Hamilton or Dunbar?

They look like the same guy to me. No drop off in speed or elusiveness from Dunbar when Hamilton is on the field.

It's not the typical 1-2 Tailback punch of "Thunder/Lightning", like we might see out of Mosley or Mathis(if he stayed). More like "Lightning/More Lightning".

I think having Hamilton step up to give Dunbar breathers without missing a step is a testament to his hard work, and it allows the run-game playcalling to be consistent throughout the game.

It's great to have both of these guys!

  9. The University already has partnerships with some chain restaurants (Chik-fil-a, Taco Bell, Einstein Bros.) in the Union cafeteria... why not bring some of their foods out to the games?

We have Dominoes Pizza at Fouts. I'm sure they'll make the move as well.

  10. Observations:

The play at the 2:54 mark is a product the defense's respect for Riley's feet. When he breaks the pocket running, the secondary creeps up to contain him...because they have to. We need to see more good decisions like this out of Riley if we're going to win more games.

I love the castless Darius Carey (I liked the casted Darius Carey).

I'm loving this "GreenCat" or whatever Jub was calling it. All of you out there calling for more Hamilton, you got it. This package works.

I love that Alfred Morris was held to 54 yds by the D.

Lots of cause for optimism after this game. Hopefully the guys continue to roll this bead of momentum they've created against UL this weekend and watch it grow. FAU may be down this year, but we went into their house, got punched in the mouth on the first drive, stuck with it, and won this game. Surely we can come home and take care of business.

    GO MEAN GREEN!

  11. ... in eating Crow for picking against my guys this week. I believe a few others should join me.

    crowpic.gif

With that said, I am kinda superstitious. I've picked UNT to win two out of three winable games, and the one game I don't, they pull it off...

Looks like the rest of the season holds some poor (maybe even blowout) predictions for the Mean Green from me in hopes of the guys going out and proving me wrong. I'll start my prediction for next week:

    UNT: -14

    LaLa: 3 million

  12. Harry, I'll be expecting my $10,000 check in the mail.

    The GoMeanGreen.com Report

The Domain of GoMeanGreen.com is a website that is cool. It has lots of posters. One time, there were 251 posters on at one time! It clearly has “potential”, which is defined as “aint done nuthin yet”.

My mission is to assess the website and deliver a comprehensive report that Harry and his minions can use as leverage to beat up ponyfans.com.

I have observed the message board for over 3 years and have come to the conclusion that using humor or large fonts with multiple colors will gain individuals respect from others. If you’re talking trash against UNT, you’re gonna get smacked with -1’s. I have also observed the “cool kids” posters and their ability to take a useless thread to begin with and totally derail it into a fun HOF-worthy thread, only to be fumbled for over 3 months by mods before taking its rightful place in the HOF forum. It is also advantageous to one’s reputation if the poster is able to fly aircrafts and take quality pictures.

I have also observed several sporting events and the reactions they receive from posters on GMG.com. My conclusion is that the posters are happy when North Texas wins any competition, and they are irate when North Texas loses any contest.

The recent board upgrades are going to bring new interest and vitality to the board.

My recommendations to the board are as follows: Start a baseball forum: I believe this is in the master plan of the site. Advertise on sites like Yahoo.com & Google.com, and block any links from TheBleacherReport. Register more firemen, Agean-descent, and female posters, and less Tulsa fans, fact checkers, and porn spammers. Regulate the Conference realignment threads to 1 per year.

My hope is that with a better message board, we can finally put a man on the moon, find BinLaden, and extend Johnny Jones’ contract. God Bless GoMeanGreen.com

  13. Looks like an overachieving student's SWOT analysis project. On the plus side, BILLBOARDS!!!!!!!

Mr. Neinas: "Uh, you should think about starting a baseball program."

Rick V.: "That's a great idea! We've actually had it in our plans for quite a while, but just don't have the funds yet."

Mr. Neinas: "Your stadium is going to be pretty nice! You should highlight it by budgeting some money towards advertising for it."

    Rick V.: "Thanks! That's a good idea."

Mr. Neinas: "That'll be $100,000 please."

Rick V.: "Wow! Thanks for everything Mr. Neinas, would you like to come over for dinner? My wife is cooking her signature Lasagna."

Mr. Neinas: "No. I really gotta go. The University of Texas-San Antonio is anxious for my services. Fare thee well."
