  1. I've been thinking on this a while, and a lot of you will probably agree. I think Dickey was a decent coach with the situation he came into, with very little support from anywhere. He was able to use that to bunker his kids down and use that mentality to his advantage. I think he (probably RV too) were thinking they'd have a lot more support by now than they do. Even though we're night/day different from where we were, we're not where we SHOULD be. I think Dickey doesn't see the upside anymore, only the negative. I think he's constantly thinking about everything he DOESN"T have, rather than taking advantage of what he DOES. He can't sell us to recruits as well as he used to because he doesn't FEEL it anymore. Rather than thinking about how much progress we have made he thinks of the progress we haven't made. I see where he's coming from. I'm tired of taking the same fight to my friends every year about why they should come out and support the team when we don't seem to be GOING anywhere. I can only imagine the frustration he must feel. That being said, I think it might be time for a change. We need new energy. We need someone to come in who see's all of the upside and doesn't focus on the negative. We need new energy, not just for the football team, but also to inspire the FAN base. You can't hope to keep a struggling fan base interested when we're getting our a$$es handed to us from a team no one gives 2 $hits about. We're past that point as fans. It's time to start thinking we're a top tier school. See everyone at Homecoming. I'm still hopeful we'll have decent attendance for the rest of the year.
  2. My family and I just got home after watching the first half at Fouts. I was disgusted enough to throw in the towel after the 1st quarter, but my wife said we should stay so the kids (2 girls in Jr Mean Green Club) could high-5 players as they ran on the field after half time. Here are my 2 toughts from the game. One very GOOD, the other is distrubing. 1) The Good - I took the girls down with 5 minutes left at halftime to line up to go out on the field. There were SO many kids already lined up that when we got to the end of the line, we were wrapped over half way to the alumni side under the endzone bleachers. When they started to let us on the field I knew we had a problem because the players were coming out of the locker room, and we weren't on the field. Well they roped us off.............I'd guess probably 30 folks were standing there with us watching the team run onto the field. My girls were pretty upset we didn't make it onto the field, but I'm encouraged. With THAT many young people involved, I think our future looks good. Now to the Bad............ 2) We always sit in that front corner on the student side, right by where the players come out. In every game I've watched since we started sitting there 6 years ago, the team always stops and groups together and gets pumped up before running out onto the field. For the first time ever, the guys weren't even finished coming out of the locker room before the cannon went off and half the team ran out onto the field. It looked right from the beginning like the team didn't care. They weren't into like they usually are. As they went onto the field after half time I noticed the same thing. The players were still walking past us as the team started to run out onto the field. By that point I could understand....but to start the game coming onto the field all half-a$$ed speaks volumes about how the team feels about being a TEAM.
  3. Where did you see it was televised? That's awesome! BigRob's wife is having a C-Section today at noon. I just got off the phone with him and his wife has told him he's not allowed to go to the game Saturday JUST because he'll be a new Dad and she'll still be in the hospital. He's going to be so excited if this game is on.
  4. North Texas Blanks Cajuns To Remain Perfect In SBC Play Courtesy: University of North Texas Release: 09/24/2006 Courtesy: Rick Yeatts Kandice Ellis notched her 11th career shutout against Louisiana-Lafayette LAFAYETTE, La. (9/24/06) – In a very physical match the North Texas women’s soccer team fought its way past Louisiana-Lafayette 2-0 at the Cajun Soccer Complex. The win extends the Mean Green’s (6-2-2, 2-0) unbeaten streak to five straight games and keeps North Texas perfect in Sun Belt Conference play. “It was a very physical match but Heather and Kelli really stepped up when we needed a goal,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. “It nice to be 2-0 in conference play, especially with both of the wins coming on the road”. The first half of the match was scoreless as both teams had five shots, but in the second half the Mean Green took control of the game. Starting in the 60th of play junior Heather Hutyra notched her fourth goal of the season off a free kick to make it 1-0 North Texas. Sophomore Kelli Lunsford added an insurance goal, her third of the season, in the 72nd minute off a deflection in front of the Cajun net. Junior Kandice Ellis made five saves on the afternoon to pick up her fourth shutout of the season. North Texas outshot Louisiana-Lafayette 18-9 in the game. North Texas returns home fro two matches, beginning with Florida International on Friday, September 29 at 7 p.m.
  5. Compared to last week where we showed absolutley NOTHING, I feel pretty good about this loss. I feel a lot more confident going into Sunbelt play that we MIGHT not be the doormat.
  6. Alright, I'm listening to the end of this game, and it's pretty clear we're going to lose. But the second half has been a completely different game. Did the offense learn something? The ground game seemed to come to life. Also - The Defense seemed to knuckle up and show us something that has been SORELY lacking. Did we turn some corner? Did something click? Am I just grabbing for straws?
  7. OK - SO we lose this game. Did we turn a corner during this second half? Maybe I'll start a new thread?
  8. Way to play Woody!!! We've GOT to get some points.
  9. BLOCKED PUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. WHY would you run on 3 consecutive plays when you need 25 yards?
  11. Time for the D to do something............anything.
  12. Glad to see us with 77 yards on the ground.
  13. No kidding! It's like our Defense missed the bus. Usually they at least last until the 2nd Half.
  14. My feeling is that nobody knows what to expect out of this season. We showed somethign vs. SMU and then layed a big fat egg at Tulsa. Which team will come out against Akron? I hope the good one, but who knows.
  15. I don't know about Loren, but I thought Jackson was looking at waiting a year for some reason. Maybe I got it wrong? And Welcome to the Board!!!! Just like the Executioner from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves would say "Always room for one more". GMG!!!!
  16. I've always thought that the town needed a very "Homer" feeling bar. A place where as soon as you walk in, you feel like you're at a Pep Rally for the Mean Green. Memorabilia on the walls, somewhat knowledgable wait staff...etc. Grat idea! Wish I had some cash, but then I might have opened it myself. lol
  17. "A smash mouth offense MAY work for us in the Belt, but against other D1 conferences it is just not working." I think you may be on to something. I wonder if our coaches don't approach these games to win (not that they don't WANT to), but that they use these games as ways to get ready for conference. W need our O-Line to know the right schemes/blocks to run J-Mo up the middle when we get to SBC play. Could it be that rather than going out of their way to try to win these games, they're using them to be ready for conference? If this is the case, what's more improtant? OOC wins or SBC wins? Troy has had good luck in OOC wins but struggles with SBC, they seem to be the darling of the conference though. Everyone wants to be like them. But if you can win conference, you go to a bowl which is big for students, alumni, boosters, etc..... What do you think?
  18. Now they think Phillips is going in? Have they run the option at all? Haven't heard it. What is going on with this offense?
  19. The soccer program gives me hope for the rest of athletics. 2 trips to the NCAA Tournament is pretty good, even if they didn't win when they got there. We're starting to get some recognition and that can't hurt. With the faciites we have and a more energetic student body I think NT athletics are on the rise. Hopefully the success at soccer spills over into other sports.
