  1. This reminds me of Mason Fine's video from High School. Not sure what my gut feeling means...and I know I just posted in the other thread I'd rather start Aune or Ruder...but I'd be glad to be wrong.
  2. I see the talent with Gunnels, but throwing him in as the starter too soon could have the same disastrous consequences as throwing Ruder in too soon. I think Ruder can out perform Aune, especially if he is as cerebral as the coaching staff has led us to believe. It's obvious Gunnels has the preferred physical attributes, but, especially in an air raid system, understanding the playbook is key. That said, and I'm not a person that puts QB height high on my list, but in this case, with his other physical traits, I can see why there is optimism. But he hasn't played a snap for us, and I would start either Aune or Ruder over him on that alone. Watching some film on Gunnels, especially that USC game, he is not afraid to throw it in tight coverage, and while he was accurate, his receivers didn't have the hands. It resulted in one (maybe two? can't remember) INTs. I like strong arm QBs hitting tight windows, but you have to know your receivers capabilities too. Also, this is all kinda dampened by the fact that we don't have an actual QB coach. We're just trying to reach out to QBs and without a dedicated coach to help them improve their craft. We could bring in a future Brett Farve and it wouldn't matter. This staff has proven they cannot teach/coach QBs.
  3. He's got a strong arm, probably the strongest one of the bunch, and is at least as accurate as Aune on the deep ball. Still might take him a season to get up to speed though on the playbook.
  4. https://meangreensports.com/sports/football/roster/jd-head/5577 "Longest pass of the season went for 20 yards against Georgia Southern at the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl (12/23)" Also he doesn't have a qb name like Stone Earle.
  5. I'm not saying he's the answer, I'm saying he shouldn't be overlooked as a potential answer.
  6. Yeah that's why Ruder started the first 3 or 4 games last season.
  7. Edit: here's the espn page for the game to see his stats. https://www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/401248275
  8. Earle is the wild card here. He's going to be behind the curve in terms of learning the offensive but he's performed under pressure before which is something both Aune and Ruder struggle with. If he can hit wide open receivers down field and have a little more patience in the pocket, it could be the game changer we need. Alternatively, if Aune gets it together then that would be the best because he is the most familiar with the offense, just not sure he can. He's had two years already. Edit/after thought: His name is Stone Earle. That's the name of a starting QB. Just saying.
  9. I've never been to the spring game. Kinda wanna go. See the Ruder we've all been told about for my own eyes.
  10. Yeah, let us just ignore all the balls thrown way off target, even under minimal pressure. How do you know the route issues are on the receivers? They could have been miscommunicated by the QB or sideline. The issue isn't the receivers, it is the QBs and the QB room without an ACTUAL former QB as a coach, and no, Shanbour doesn't count. Edit: Also, Guyton did NOT have good hands
  11. Is your memory okay? Fine was also behind terrible olines his entire time here. The oline play for the past two years has been much better and the QBs still can't get the ball out.
  12. There's a competition. Unfortunately, the guys grading it aren't well versed.
  13. How many good QBs has he produced as a coach?
  14. Yeah that's why our QBs got worse from 2020 to 2021. Give me a break. We need an actual QB coach. Just because we hired a bad one last year doesn't mean there aren't guys out there that can do it. Should have gone after a former QB like Clint Trickett before he got the OC job at Marshall, for example.
  15. This right here is why we need an actual QB coach.
  16. Carthel seems like a good program to learn and teach at. Happy for this selfless player turned coach and hoping for more future success.
  17. It's almost like you think I care what the forum thinks. If Bennett encouraged getting rid of the Murphy twins he's an idiot, which it has been insinuated by the forum that was the case. I don't know if he did or didn't, I'm replying to a rumor. I appreciate what the man has done for our defense an I hope he sticks around for a long time. The twins did draw many penalties and blow assignments, but they also did something I haven't seen in years here, and that was pressure the QB consistently. As long as Bennett can keep the QB pressure game going I don't care that much about the Murphy twins leaving. Again, if it is true Bennett encouraged them to leave, or didn't offer resistance, then I think that was a huge mistake.
  18. That's a red flag. How can you possibly not be a fan of your best two preforming defensive ends?
  19. If that's the case he's an idiot.
  20. I got a pro tip, get some defenders in Ruder's face during practice. Actual linebackers and DLs.
  21. Said that last year too. Unless he can perform on the field, I don't care.
