I don't know if UTSA is looking good or if UH is just not the same team. Tune looks lost out there. Doesn't seem like the same passer from last year.

I don't remember the stats, I just remember frequently having 3rd down conversions from QBs that extended drives throughout last season, especially early on. As greenminer pointed out, two of his scrambles went for 1st down conversions against us and those are defensive momentum killers.

I know most people are pessimistic with good reason, but there are things in our favor. SMU secondary is apparently questionable in terms of ability. New coach for first game is a huge advantage for us at home I think. Our oline held really well against a good UTEP d front. There are margins we can win at here, and if we capitalize on them, we may just win. But it will depend on Aune and the receivers having a good game. I don't think SMU's front 7 will let us run.

We missed big time on Kason. I can't believe we didn't give him a fair shot here.

The problem isn't necessarily his arm or his receivers. Yes, that is dangerous, but if we manage to take that away, he can scramble. If you cover down field and then he just runs all over you. It's what happened last year from what I remember. And one thing Bennett's defense is usually not good against is the QB scramble.

IMO, it is going to come down to our secondary. Despite the way people on this forum were talking about Hardison, he is a very talented QB with at least a couple really good receivers. Despite our issues at corner, our safeties and tight zone play locked down the passing game (mostly because UTEP usually only used 2 or 3 receiver sets, but still). It will be a much bigger challenge this weekend, especially considering QB run play, but if the D can stifle the backfield even half as good as we did against UTEP, we might slow them down enough to out score them. That's if Aune and the offense can get it done, because I don't think the SMU defense will let us run much.

They, and Torrey, will likely go to practice squads if not claimed off waivers, yes?
