I second that notion. Being from Midland its not much different. Oil, and lots of it, a severe disdain for Permian High School, and a love for all things Lee Rebel Football. We are, after all where Friday Night lights really began. I have to admit, growing up watching Cedric Benson destroy everything in his path for three straight years was pretty fun, too bad he didn't pan out as well in his pro career. We sucked when I played football there, and I got out as soon as I could. Too many brainwashed Texas Tech cronies for my liking, and nothing to do in your spare time other than drink beer and do dumb stuff

I think the triple option would involve too many forward passes for Mac's liking

For as much as many of you dog on him, he was head and shoulders above anything we have trotted out at QB since he graduated

Until Mac changes his 40 year old offensive philosophy, we will never attract a good quarterback.

Since the talk of Mike Leach on another thread and former QB's on this thread, why not Graham Harrell? He set records for Leach, and is currently a coach under him at Washington St. Would be interesting to see if he could bring the same sort of system. I mean, look at Kingsbury, played for Leach, OC under Sumlin, and now HC of Tech, who last time I checked, still puts up crazy offensive numbers with a pretty damn good young quarterback in Mahomes

I would love to see Smith in an Air Raid offense. Hell I'd love to see an air raid offense in general at UNT. I think it would give us the best shot at recruiting big time QBs, and potentially beat P5 programs occasionally.

Right. Until we string together 5+ successful seasons, 1 outlier won't make a difference in program perception.

Key to the game that will almost certainly not happen: If/When we start losing by 20+ points. Play your younger players(See: Quarterbacks) to get experience for the future. While it's a pipe dream that Mac would do such a thing, maybe if we're getting completely pummeled he might consider it.

His twitter infuriates me. I just want to reply to everything with "If you're so committed to winning then why don't we win more" or something along those lines. He just cheers on the team, says dumb inspirational crap about how losing is an opportunity to learn. He must be Stephen Hawking at this point with all the "learning" he's done in his career

I only had experience with Rawlins and Smatresk as a student. It seems to me Smatresk is much more aware of what needs to happen for the University to be successful, including athletics. He is much more tuned in to what the student body wants as well. I have faith that he will make the correct changes to right the ship
