  1. So because you expected us to win to an NAIA school by 5, this win is acceptable? That's nice that Benford gets a 40 point cushion. Hopefully we can cut the lead under 40 during mop-up time.
  2. No such thing as 1-AA in any sport other than football.
  3. Well, Wayland Baptist is beating us 21-17
  4. TJ Taylor needs to be the priority on offense.
  5. I think our biggest win of the year was Northwood. Because, as some posters have said on here, "we would have lost that game last year." #progress
  6. Finished the season with 89 catches, over 1700 yards, 30 offensive touchdowns, and 6 picks, and a state championship. Oh yeah, and the best part? He'll be wearing green and white the next game he plays.
  7. With all due respect to Breedlove, don't believe that for a second. Breedlove isn't legitimately on Oregon's radar and they already have two 4-star running backs committed for this class. They could also be there to try and see if Roberson, the defensive end for Brennan, is worth trying to steal from Texas while Texas finds a new coach. Also Heard. Plenty of scouts will be there all weekend for all the state championship games. Great opportunity for a lot of those kids.
  8. Exactly. Kind of what you see is what you get with most big school DFW kids. There are exceptions, but it just kind of comes with coaches recognizing when their players are 9th and sometimes 8th graders who the future varsity guys are going to be. Then, as you said, they maximize that talent over their high school career.
  9. Carthage wins 34-23. Been fun keeping up with them winning this playoff season. Congrats to those guys and the future mean green
  10. Yup. Also, Rutherford has made very impressive strides as a receiver this year. I think we got a really good one in Rutherford too, and not just as a goal-line target.
  11. You'd be surprised. Lot of hardcore strawberry donut fans on this board.
  12. Carthage scores first on a touchdown pass to their sophomore tight end marquise gunn. 7-0. Hope we keep an eye on Gunn the next two years. Wouldn't mind extending an early offer to him. Goree had at least two catches that drive.
  13. Sounds like if Brock can just learn to play within the offense then he will have a chance. Flashiness impresses fans, but consistency impresses coaches. Gotta do the latter before you can do the former. Brock is my darkhorse because he has shown the ability in practice, just needs to stay healthy and put it all together in the spring.
  14. As most all know, we have just one team with a UNT commit(s) still playing in the state playoffs. Our receiving duo at Carthage takes on Kilgore tonight in the state championship game. Carthage vs. Kilgore, noon Friday, December 20th, AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas Carthage, led by our receiver commits Tee Goree and O'Keeron Rutherford takes on the 14-0 Kilgore bulldogs. Should be a great game. Feel free to post updates in here!
  15. Matt Stinchcomb is a former offensive lineman in college for Georgia and played in the NFL. I've seen him do a game or two and he's pretty good.
  16. Article about the Carthage skill players. Rutherford and Goree repping the mean green with the claw. http://etsn.fm/veteran-skill-position-playmakers-carry-carthage-to-3a-division-i-state-title-vs-kilgore/
  17. Mcnulty came in against Idaho while DT was temporarily injured. He fumbled the first snap and threw an interception with his only throw. Then DT came back in.
  18. Completely agree. Also, I don't get the whole "Dajon is the future, but he might not be ready next year." If Greer is brought in to start then he will be both the short term and the long term. If he wins he will be our qb for the next 3 years and Dajon wouldn't be the starter until his redshirt senior year.
  19. Exactly. Waiting for the guys who fall through that recruiting net doesn't leave you with much. Especially with schools like Texas, as Harry mentioned in the football forum, now offering guys like Bryce English from DeSoto, a booger clone. 10, probably even 5 years ago they wouldn't give a sub 6' d-tackle a chance. Now they snatch them up early; sophomore year in English's case.
  20. Completely agree on all points. I keep hearing two things. 1. Why aren't we getting any d-lineman with our head coach being a d-line guy? 2. We don't need to recruit outside Texas. I agree that we don't have to recruit outside Texas much, but d-line is very hard to get good players who fall through the cracks. Running backs, backs, linebackers, receivers, even offensive linemen are really pretty much a dime a dozen in this state. D1 D-lineman, particularly d-tackles, are hard to find. With the Big 12 schools, A&M, LSU, and even Houston ahead of us right now they usually scoop up the good ones leaving us with not much left. That's why I think broadening our recruiting horizons, even if just to cherry pick a few guys (particularly d-tackles) could be beneficial to us. Memphis is just an example because there are good football players there and it isn't very far.
  21. I agree. But we wouldn't need to put near the amount of resources we put into Louisiana. And that is possible with Dickey, but Memphis is going after Prather and not Rasmussen. I recommend watching Rassmussen's film before calling this not worth trying, even though it might be.
  22. I've said this on here for a while and I understand why it may not be a good idea, but I really think we should recruit Memphis. Not put a lot of resources into like we did in Louisiana, just go after a few guys from there. It's only about 7 and a half hours from Denton and we play a lot of teams that are less than 5 hours from Memphis (La Tech, USM, UAB, WKU, MUTS). I don't mind us not going after Memphis kids, but the amount of Texas d-line prospects available are dwindling and that's what we need to spend our last two schollies on. Here are a couple of kids who I think we could get and would help. Also, Memphis kids have not seen the offseason and weight programs that Texas kids have seen, or the coaching so they have a lot of room for growth and development. 1. Zach Rasmussen: 6'3" 270 lb defensive lineman. Had 19 tfls and 7 sacks this year. Very fast off the ball and easily has the size and frame to play d-tackle. Rivals: http://rivals.yahoo.com/basketballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Zach-Rasmussen-139205 247: http://247sports.com/Player/Zach-Rasmussen-23444 Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/530764/highlights/111452377 Who has offered: Chattanooga, Murray State, Southern Illinois, Tennessee Martin 2. James Prather: 6'4" 235 lb linebacker/d-end. Plays for probably the best team in Memphis and maybe all of Tennessee. Plays linebacker and moves well, but also plays end and has the frame to play d-end in college. Was defensive MVP of his region. Little harder competition for this guy. Rivals: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-James-Prather-144669 247: http://247sports.com/Player/James-Prather-19303 Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/441779/ Who has offered: Memphis, Northern Illinois, South Alabama, Navy Finish with a d-line class of Rasmussen and Prather or Xavier Washington and I'd be fine with no JUCOs at this point.
  23. You forgot about our linebacker commit Jalen Montgomery. But no, don't expect us to move any of our linebackers to d-line.
  24. As for the big boys being mostly done, hate to qualify them as a big boy because they may or may not be but they are above us on the totem pole right now, but Houston is who we need to pay attention to. Houston has one defensive tackle committed. They are after basically all of the d-tackle guys that we are after. JT Williams, Aaron Jenkins, and Darrius Montgomery. They won't take them all, and hopefully we aren't left taking their leftovers, but getting whoever they don't get would be better than getting no one.
