  1. Nobody is hating. Nobody is saying he cant get it done. He has silenced the doubters that say he couldn't get the job done. So now he has set a level of expectation and that is what we are holding him to. He has proven that he can make good decisions and get the ball in the hands of our playmakers. He has proven he go and win games. So now we need to see that effort on a consistent basis. When the lights come on and the stage is brightest we need our QB and leader to be at his best.
  2. You know you also got to do the things that Derek does best like those designed roll outs, occasional deep shots, and anything that gets the ball out of his hand quickly. When he sits back there and has to pat the ball his footwork gets all kinds of ugly. How many times have we seen the throw off the back foot or leaning back? He is best when he hits those 3 steps and bam ball is out, or when he is on the designed roll out and he only has to read a 3rd of the field. Its simple look deep okay not there, intermediate out route not there, TE arrow route its there bam ball is out and on target.
  3. Derek has really improved in most areas like his completion percentage being up from 56% a year ago after 9 games to 67% now. There are so many things he has improved on and done well. The only area where the improvement doesn't reflect is the TD to INT. You would think with the better completion percentage it would translate to more a few more TD's than INT's. I don't think anyone is doubting what he has accomplished. We just know that if we are going to win these games down the stretch we need second half Ball St. Derek to be present and accounted for in every game. We don't need Derek to be a world beater like Johnny Football. We need Derek to be A.J McCarron. He needs to understand that a punt is not a bad thing. Those 11 guys on defense have his back. There is no need to force a pass into any coverage. If you don't feel comfortable then throw it away or tuck it away and pick up a few. I can live with that and most fans should. What I cant live with it is the mistakes that give away points. In the end I think they trust Derek, but only to a certain point.
  4. Marshall no. ECU yes. If we faced ECU we would not be able to run the ball very well. Ultimately the game would come down to throwing the ball. I think we could hold the ECU offense to around 24 or 25 points, not sure if our offense could generate 4 TD's against their D without help from the D or special teams.
  5. Umm he certainly is a big guy. Not highly rated right now. Not as explosive as Tulane's Chris Davenport. If you want to look him up on your own his name is Marcus Bagley
  6. Yup offense needs to pick up if they want to win out. The talent is there to do it. We have seen it at times this year be very explosive and multi dimensional. I don't mind that we hold back at times, I think that is just the nature of playing to your strengths. This year its about the great defense being our strength.
  7. Yeah, I hate to look ahead, but I do believe that the offense next year will be a different animal. I certainly think it will be more explosive and fun to watch.
  8. You Sir are welcome. I do get headaches at times. My wife says that it has practically become my second job.
  9. I like the idea of option out of that formation where Jimmerson is the dive back QB is reading DE and then Rollins is the pitchman, Byrd becomes the blocker. Only problem is DT is not the guy I want running the option. He doesn't need to take unnecessary shots.
  10. All the talk this past week has been about what the defense accomplished last Thursday night, but what about the offense? Well the offense didn’t put up great numbers, but still accomplished enough to help out with the win. We decided to go back and look at every offensive play that we thought was successful and break it down for y’all. Here is the definition of a successful play in our book. Any play resulting in a touchdown Any play resulting in a first down Any pass play 5 yards or greater Any run play 4 yards or greater Get the results and read more here : Successful Plays This post has been promoted to an article

  12. Smothered and covered. One reason Carlos Harris is getting more looks. You can't take away every guy that this offense throws at you. It sucks at times that the offense gets dialed back, because there are some weapons out there. At times we see what this offense can do and other times we get the watered down version.
  13. You know I'll have my eyes on this game for y'all so if you want you can watch other more interesting games.
  14. Good stuff. Only thing Bellazin had the RB as his responsibility not the QB. Orr was scraping over the top with QB has his responsibility and Wright had the pitchman. The way to stoping the option is maintaining accountability for all options. The Rice QB read Bellazin collapsing so he pulled the ball. He then saw Orr had the angle on him so he pitched it hoping his RB would make Wright miss. End result a loss. That's just good fundamental defense folks.
  15. And So MEAN GREEN Fans with 0:00 on the clock and UNT finishing off Rice by the score of 28-16 our “AH HAH! ALLEJUAH” moment has just arrived. That what one helluva game folks. When you draw it up on how you want to look in front of a national audience you don’t get much better than that. Of course the offense could have looked a little better, but the end result was what mattered the most. The students, the atmosphere, and THE STAND will all be great recruiting tools for the rest of the year. I wonder how many UNT verbal commits were sitting at home watching with a big smile on their face. I also wonder how many guys UNT are targeting were sitting at home saying to themselves “I could see myself in black and green playing in front of that awesome crowd and atmosphere.” Read More Here: Final Random Thoughts
  16. I don't doubt it. If I was an area scout for an NFL team I would have been there too. No reason not to be with two good teams matched up and a chance to look at some players. Don't think they were there to just watch Brelan . I'd imagine they wanted to get a look at Zach Orr, a few of the UNT OLmen, prob Rice's corners as well. It could have been the game that gets a few scouts to start paying attention to him. Basically these scouts are going to collect all their information and report it back up the chain and then come draft season Jan-April they are going to return back to their orgs to discuss what they've seen. You have to hope that Brelan continues to make noise so he stays fresh in peoples minds. That would also mean more success for us. I hope he continues to play well and gets that draft combine invite. I'm with you guys I think the guy is a tremendous player. I have no doubt in my mind he will get a shot at making an NFL roster, just not sure he will get drafted. To be honest I'd love for him to be drafted, but its not that important. What I want for him most is too succeed in the NFL and to have a long career. For everything he has done for the university and possibly being an all-American I think he deserves that long career. He will truly be missed.
  17. Don't blast me for saying it that he wouldn't get drafted right now its just the truth. For him to get drafted he needs more touches and more pub. He needs to get an NFL combine invite or have an off the chart pro day. T.Y ran a 4.37 or somewhere in that range. So Brelan will need to run in the 4.4 range. I bet some scouts will have an issue with his size and the amount of punishment that he has already taken. The drops are a concern, but not a huge one. So right now he has done enough to get a look and a camp invite for sure. More work needs to be done in season and in draft prep for him to get that call on draft weekend.
  18. I can tell you he is not getting much pub right now in the draft scouting world. That's right now. I think part of the reason why is well UNT doesn't get a lot of pub to begin with. Secondly targets he just doesn't get the touches he deserves or demands. If the draft were today with no combine invite for him, he would not be drafted. He will get a camp invite no matter what as a free agent.
  19. Rollins just needs to follow his blockers better. There were a couple of times where he didn't use the block correctly and ran to the wrong side. God gave you speed son, USE IT. I agree though he looked like he could help.
  20. I'm certainly open to any idea. I do this for our fans. I felt there were so many other sites of other teams doing a pretty good job breaking down their teams game. I felt our fan base was missing it and so I've set out to deliver the goods to our fans without making them pay $100 bucks for analysis. Believe me when I say that there are something's that I want to do, but just haven't had the time to develop them yet. I don't want to get into to specifics, but I think that they will only enhance your knowledge as a fan.
  21. I'm so ready for this black out I have the lights turned off in my office!
  22. You know turnovers are a key in every game. It get magnified more when the stakes are higher though. One thing that isn't really talked about is how teams can force turnovers. Obviously with North Texas, the first thing that comes to mind is how well they fly to the ball and hit the opposing team. The Rice RB Ross has a tendency to carry that ball a little loose at times, so a big hit could put the ball on the ground. Rice is an option team so their ball handling has to crisp against an attacking defense like UNT. Could we see a few hits at the mesh point tonight? Perhaps. I think Rice could force some turnovers by giving Derek some different looks with its LB's. It's seemed a lot of his picks across the middle where just poor reads. Almost like he didn't see the defender in front. Derek has that tendency to throw off his back foot sometimes too in the face of pressure. So lets see how well Rice gets to him. Yes I agree turnovers will be key, but I'm interested in how they are caused in this game. Who can create turnover opportunities the best in this game.
  23. He hasn't shadowed or spied on a QB yet this year. So Not quite sure if he will do it. What he may try is a delayed blitz with Wright or Orr where their main responsibility is QB
  24. Yes I agree. You have to squeeze their QB in the pocket. Almost like making a fist around him leaving no room for an escape. I will say this that McHargue does a good job of stepping up in the pocket. Thats where his general movement seems to take him
