  1. Biggest coaching failure of the night - failing to foul on pass in after taking three-point lead, letting ASU score a three.
  2. Homecoming crowd will not necessarily be biggest unless the schedule encourages game attendance by all the groups that have partied outside the stadium instead of going to the games the last few years.
  3. The biggest downer is only one home game in October, and that is against MT. The opposite side of that coin, however, is being able to go to Louisiana games in October.
  4. With that 59-7 score, MUTS probably thinks we beat them twice at home in 2011, but we only had six games - not seven.
  5. I joined soon after I graduated in 1969. While it didn't seem cheap in 1969 dollars, that $100 seems like highway robbery now. (That was actually more than my first semester tuition and fees!) I am fairly sure the price will NEVER go down, so I suggest now is the best time to grab it.
  6. Was he in warm-ups? We had five guys in warm-ups, but only four on the roster not suited up.
  7. Alzee Williams, 40 minutes Tony Mitchell, 39 minutes P.J. Hardwick, 38 minutes Jordan Williams, 33 minutes (4 fouls) Roger Franklin, 25 minutes (fouled out) 5 subs total, 25 minutes, and only points were 4 free throws by Patton in his 9 minutes The bench was not a factor last night, except for Patton and Coleman filling in for starters in foul trouble. The starters were getting tired, and started to come up short on shots and committing turnovers. Benford had no choice but to slow the game down in the last 10 minutes.
  8. Actually, UNT had 10 guys suited up and all got in the game. Austin Mitchell probably had fewest minutes (seconds?).
  9. First UNT substitution came at 10:41 - what a change!
  10. Lee Jackson attended the game tonight - first time this season. Very good defense tonight, got a bit sloppy with some forced turnovers midway through second half. Hardwick played with fire in his belly. Earlier, the ladies crushed a South Alabama team that came in 10-5. Pretty good night to be in the Pit.
  11. Don't think it hit much of Denton, but we went through a heavy hail storm on 2499 in Highland Village on the way home to Flower Mound - not damaging, but heavy enough to completely cover the road.
  12. Holding South Alabama to 22 points in the first half reflected what I thought was a great defensive effort by UNT.
  13. This is the first year I have attended more than two or three games since my years as a student, something that simply wasn't easy until I moved 25 miles closer and then retired. I bought into the hype that was fed to us last summer. Benford inherited a talented roster, but the team has not come close to living up to the hype. Sure, some outside shooters got hurt, and that made it easier for opponents to defend. We have seen at times what looked like sheer laziness on the part of the players. For those of who have watched both the ladies and the men, we have seen much better execution by the ladies. Most of us, myself included, don't know what is going on in practice or how well Benford is managing the team beyond not seeing execution or control and seeing a lot of disruptive substitutions. One thing is starting to really stick out with me - a high incidence of players being being benched for violating team rules. That it has impacted several players says a lot about a huge disconnect between coaches and players expectations. This suggests that Benford has lost the respect of the team. I doubt that he is capable of getting it back. The ladies deserve a good turnout, but they will not get that the way the men are playing. It is unfortunate that the men's program is lost and that will keep most fans (and a few players) away until it is fixed.
  14. The ladies, on the other hand, played well and won 79-51.
  15. In any case, the guys looked worn out through most of the second half. They stayed in the game only due to weak opposition. You could feel the collapse coming when they started throwing up bricks, missing lay-ups, and missing free throws.
  16. True, I posted before checking - just got home 20 minutes ago.
  17. Good run in first half to catch up and pull ahead before slipping to 30-30 tie at half. Played even but uninspired first ten minutes of second half, and blew a close game down the drain 81-68 after being tied halfway through the second half.
  18. Those are great seats. Joe let me use them earlier this season.
  19. If I remember correctly, Benford called the timeout just as we were on a run. Dumb.
