  1. Cool, thanks guys. I'm not really worried about dying a painful and torturous WNV death or anything, but I'd like to avoid the complications of having to get treatment for something like that. I've had my share of medical BS recently (surgery in April 2011 that just healed fully 2 weeks ago, torn ankle ligaments, diabetes scare, to name a few lol), so I'm trying to stay legitimately healthy for a nice long stretch of time for the first time in a while haha. As necessary as bees are, I hate the things, so if they croak along with the skeeters, I am a happy man.
  2. I feel bad for the kid, but even if he doesn't have experience, he's still going to dominate in middle school. He'll make new friends on the team, and he'll be fine. The rule is the rule, and considering he is over two times the weight limit, it just wouldn't be fair at all to let him play. Even if he sucks and is too slow to play tackle and DE, stick him at guard on offense and as a DT on defense, and he'd be unstoppable. No 130 pound 7th grader can push back a 300 pound kid. I do feel for the kid, since it was just 7 years ago when I was his age in middle school, and that's a tough time for anyone who is different. Even if nobody makes fun of him for his size, he's going to feel incredibly different and awkward in social situations, and I can understand that he's a bit hesitant to just play for the school, where he doesn't have friends. But doing things that aren't ideal are great for life experience, and his parents shouldn't be pushing for him to break the rule of the league, they should be pushing him (well, guiding, not pushing) to go against the easy route, and to dominate for the school team.
  3. I don't recall ever hearing his name before, so I assume he graduated after the 2010 season? Or is he another undrafted rookie from this year, and I'm already developing memory problems? Someone fill me in haha.
  4. Definitely glad UNT stayed away from the WAC. It'll be completely dissolved within a couple of years. As for Idaho, I do feel bad for them, but that dome is atrocious. They have been renovating it to make it a bit better, but who honestly wants to play in a 16,000 seat dome in the middle of Idaho? They probably don't have the fund and/or support for a new stadium right now....I think their best move for the long haul is to stay independent for a couple of years to see if they can find a way into a FBS conference, and if that fails, go FCS, build the program up from scratch, and try to get a new stadium maybe 10 years down the line. That'll be their only way back once they go down, that dome isn't going to be given a second chance with the big boys.
  5. I can definitely see 5-7. Good analysis FLF. Personally I'm going with 7-5, with 5-7 and 6-6 both being very probable as well. I just have a ton of faith in McCarney's ability to develop players in the offseason and coach like a fiend during the season. Here's what I think. Loss at LSU Win vs Southern Loss at K State Win vs Troy (I really don't think Troy is going to be that good, if we could beat them on the road last year, we can certainly beat them at home this year, if we lose we're going 5-7) Win at FAU Loss at Houston Win vs ULL (toss up, but I feel like the crowd will be big, and the home field atmosphere will pull us through) Win at MTSU (they suck still, I don't get why people are high on them this year) Loss vs Ark State Win vs South Alabama Win at ULM Loss at WKU (I think we will win either ULM or WKU, not sure which, but I'm going with ULM) Is this assuming things go right? Yeah, I guess, but I have confidence this year for some reason. I doubt we go better than 7-5, I'd say 8-4 is more unlikely than even 5-7. The Troy and ULL games are the biggest games of the season I think. They are 2 very lose-able games, and if we lose both the season could be realllllllly ugly. So let's see, this puts my conference prediction at 6-2. That's asking a lot, but I feel like our schedule is easy enough for it. We are playing 2 terrible teams on the road (FAU and MTSU), and get the tougher teams at home, so that's an advantage, and we don't play FIU, which is VERY lucky, because they might run the table in the Belt. Go Mean Green!
  6. Those look awesome man. If you'd be interested, I'd buy a set off of you if you were to make another. Though it'd depend on what your price estimate would be, but I'd be very interested in doing that if you have the time and are willing.
  7. When I did a fantasy football draft last night, Tanner was still listed as out, and not as questionable or doubtful, so I assume he won't play this weekend. From the bit I've gathered, he's done for a few weeks, but running backs have a history of recovering from hand surgery quickly and/or coming back before they're healed, so we'll see.
  8. Alright fellas, serious question. I'm flying back to the DFW area from Rhode Island this Tuesday. I've heard from my aunt and uncle that live in Flower Mound that the whole North Texas area is just loaded with mosquitoes right now, and that West Nile Virus has been fairly common and been a big enough issue that they're spraying stuff to kill off the mosquitoes. How bad is it right now, is there any precedent for situations like this in the area (they are new to the area as well, so they don't know), what are people saying about when the threat will die down a bit, etc? I'm not really overly concerned myself, since an investment in some good bug spray should help the issue a bit, but it's still a slight worry, and my parents are a little concerned about it as well, since they're coming for a week. So, what's the deal people? I figured you locals will have some good advice and information on it.
  9. It's a good idea, but cell phone GPS's can be a bit unreliable and screwy, unless all options on a smartphone for GPS services are turned on (on mine there are 3 options, google map GPS, Verizon GPS, and standard GPS), and it drains the hell out of your battery if you do that. With my phone I just have the google GPS allowed at all times, and it's accurate within like a half a mile of my location and has a habit of skewing a bit east. If I turn all 3 on for any reason, it's accurate to within the room I am in, but it really drains battery and data.
  10. Agreed. UNTHSC has more research dollars than UNT does, so pooling the two together would be very, very beneficial for UNT's quest to be Tier 1.
  11. You down to have a couple crazy students pop in on you? haha. Mozart is only a short walk from the stadium....well shorter than most dorms.
  12. Agreed. Their best option is probably trade him this offseason when he is a full one year rental at the least, rather than a 2 month rental like he would be at the deadline next year. They are going to get sooooooo much for him. I'm really hoping my Red Sox find a way, but it would take literally the top 4 or 5 prospects we have, plus cash, a couple guys on the big club, and players to be named later, and that might not even be the best offer they get, and at that point it might not even be worth it.
  13. I hate to go off topic on such a sensitive thread, but I just got reminded of something fairly related. A few of you mentioned that there have been other drownings in the lake this year...I remember a few months ago when I was driving south on 35E over the lake, a skydiver landed in the lake about 15 feet from the highway, parachute and all. Does anyone know if that man was okay, or if there was any news about it? It was a pretty frightening sight, especially given it was so close to the interstate. I was pretty shaken for a couple hours since the guy was seriously 15-20 feet from landing on the highway, and had he landed there, I probably would have either hit him or had to swerve out of the way on the bridge.
  14. I'm retiring from the thread folks. The argument seems dead. Peace out, go Mean Green! Oh, and to the mention of the Big 12....I think UNT getting in the Big 12 might be a sign of the end times. We better watch ourselves carefully if we ever get in there....
  15. Thank you sir. It's gotten shared by a couple of pages (one atheist activist, and one band that has 12,000 likes), and it's gotten 35 likes in a day, so it's off to a good start. I'm hoping it blows up enough where I can do more than spread awareness with it. Maybe raise money and donate to victims of the Sikh shooting or something, or whatever cause is relevant at a time in the future.
  16. I'm pumped that this is the first game. Even if we don't win, our boys will be ready for the NIT after playing against a tough team like that.
  17. Looks like we're going to have one hell of a battle on our hands if their team is that physical. The gameplan will probably be "Get TM the F out of the game as fast as possible with foul trouble".
  18. Great show last night guys. Fantastic questions and, of course, great guest. I can't wait for the next one.
  19. Yeah exactly. It would take a lot from both him and the team, but 2nd or 3rd team is not out of the question, providing he stays healthy (pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee let him stay healthy) and we do well. It's definitely no guarantee, but the fact that there is even a conversation about it is amazing.
  20. If this was football and he was a star he'd have no chance. But if the team has a great season, and so does he, he will get looks. Everyone knows who he is, and smaller schools have had success with all-americans before. Wasn't Murray State's Isaiah Canaan one last year?
  21. Assuming we have an even 4/4 8 game conference slate, we currently have 6 away and 5 home games, according to http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa/sun-belt/north-texas-mean-green.php I assume the lack of a 4th game means that we're going to buy a poop team at home, but that's just pure speculation. On a side note, we have SMU at home in 2014....YES! And we have to find a replacement for Tulsa in 2014 and 2015, seeing as we'll be in their conference.
  22. Not bad! I was expecting all of our rankings to be in the 95-105 range.
  23. Haha, I figured I'd give it a try. But apparently some people were so opposed to the idea that they negatively voted the post. Oh well, not gonna keep me awake at night. All I can do is try.
