  1. I'm not disputing your numbers-- honest-- I've just been told that we had an increase of 15 enrolled National Merit Scholars, not that we have 15 total. Kinda curious to know which figure is correct.
  2. Oh, heck yeah, there is. And then I go to a basketball game and see a student-athlete who I know for a fact made horrible grades last semester....and he/she is announced as having a high enough GPA to be on the President's List. Whaaaaa......?
  3. I've really had it with jerk fans from the visiting teams this week. Yeah, yeah, I know.... If you don't wanna get heckled by the visiting fans, don't let their team beat us in our house. I can handle fans cheering for their team, and I can handle fans voicing displeasure, but don't visit someone else's house and be a jackhole unless maybe, you know, you're the defending national champs or someone of that caliber (which Tulsa is not). One row kept chanting, "Sit! Sit!" or something as Gaines, Vos, and whoever else fouled out walked over to the bench, and I can't remember what other stupid stuff they did. Usually I'm able to roll my eyes and move on, but tonight I yelled right back at them. They looked right at me, blinked, and shut up for about ten minutes.
  4. You might be be surprised. A good portion- and I'm not hinting at any particular athlete or team- of the ones I have come into contact with have serious problems with reading, writing, and general comprehension and communication. Asking those students to write a research paper produces some really alarming results sometimes.
  5. *cough* I didn't saaay that, exactly. *cough cough* Edited to add: Aaaand of course, I see the WWII posts after mine.....pardon the interruption. Please carry on. They're quite entertaining.
  6. We'll be there to take up our 4 seats, and wish Alzee well.
  7. At first, there was, then our folks came shivering in. It was just terrible that they braved the weather to see THAT. One or two bright spots, but nope....we never competed.
  8. If you're basing returns on passing grades, I wouldn't recommend holding your breath on all 8 of those 'returning' players actually returning.
  9. Matter of fact, I'd buy at least 2, because my (adult-sized) kids would love to have those.
  10. I can see why they'd get confused, with their "She'll Be Comin' Around the Mountain" fight song and all.
  11. Us too, from a volleyballer. She left a really nice message. I thought that was cool that they took the time.
  12. I'd get one. Not sure about the black/green sleeve and ringer thing, but I'd still buy the shirt. What about black with green Rocky Horror -type letters on the front and the rest in a regular font on the back? /chicksuggestions
  13. Shuke-D, that's gotta be the gif of the season. Edit: Now I've got Wyatt Earp on the brain... "...and you tell 'em, Hell's comin' with me! HELL'S comin' WITH me!!!"
  14. That... wow. We went to SMU-Tulane one year (gifted tickets) and the crowd wasn't that small. Heck, Houston-SMU in um... either 2009 or 2010... was delayed by rain and lightning for a few hours and there were more people at that game.
  15. Book brunch at the Peabody early. You can always cancel, but they've probably already started a waiting list.
  16. Spirit isn't bad for a quick Vegas trip. Just make sure you buy a snack and a drink to carry on after you've gone through security screening. And don't accidentally book the trip with the long layover because it's the cheapest... Read the fine print,
  17. You *would* have been foolish not to accept this invite. As would we have been.
  18. UTSA may leapfrog UNT in football fantasticness and wonderfulosity and it may not. I'm not worried about it, because whether or not it happens, it is out of my personal control, and I will root for UNT sports regardless of whether it's a conference champion or in the basement. Do the Roadrunner visitors not find it ironic that some of y'all not only accuse us of behaving like high-and-mighty snobs for paying our dues and getting into a mid-major conference, you then turn around and act high-and-mighty yourselves to show us how wondermous this opportunity is and how y'all are grateful to be in that very same conference? *We* at UNT should remain grounded and remember that this is JUST a mid-major conference, but you guys are thrilled because this is a fantastic opportunity to rise to football prominence in your program's infancy? Which is it, guys? Does entering C-USA suck or is it a good thing? 'Cause y'all's argument that it's both ain't holdin' water.
  19. The Chancellor punt return got shown on the top 10 on ESPN all over the country, which is pretty dang cool. I'll choose that, rather than the series of defining plays known as The Stand.
  20. I can't decide if that's the silliest thing I've read all week, or if it wins the internet.
  21. Meh. Houston was less prepared for Louisville than for UCF. No Mean Green football + a Houston loss makes me grumpy. Bah!
  22. That play was crazy. We were hoping for an Auburn win because we have family who went there, so it worked out for us, but...oh, man.
  23. Oh. Apparently I must justify myself. I apologize for my tardiness. My crew holds season tickets. This is the second home game we've missed this season, but we still made sure our tickets got used for both games. The first miss was unexpected. This miss was because we were the official barbecue cookers for our entire college and had been awake since 2am and cooking since 3:30 am. By kickoff, we were pretty darn wiped. Out of my crew, the Mama- that's me- was the one who wanted to go inside the stadium and go to the game, exhaustion or no exhaustion. Everybody else didn't want to go in quite as badly as I did because they were pooped, and that was after twelve hours of working our tails off to feed several hundred people. Go ahead and let those negative reputation votes y'all gave me, and will continue to give me, make you feel nice and smug and more full of green pride. I don't support this school and this athletic program less than you do because my family went home after a tailgate without going into the game on *one* occasion.
