  1. I disagree for one reason. We want to start playing like a contender, right? Only once in a while do the big teams play I-AA teams. And ESPECIALLY the mid-major teams that want to prove themselves put up tougher non-conference schedules to prove themselves. Would it be nice to beat Nicholls State and have 2 wins this year? Maybe. But I think it's better to lose now and be ready to beat their asses when we're settled in.
  2. Wasn't 1999 the last time we played A&M? I remember it was like 26-3 or something. But yeah, depending on the year, we could take 'em.
  3. So maybe some of you agree with me on us being the best 0-1-2 win team in the country, then?
  4. Well, it's kind of like the "Any given Sunday" mentality in the NFL. Especially in a season like this, who knows what could happen? Yeah, talent is more spread out in the NCAA, but this season has proven just how prepared you have to be. That's why I like when they interview coaches from Texas, USC, OU, LSU, etc. and they talk about always having to be prepared...which is part of the reason I was rooting for TCU against UT this year. Mack Brown threw out that cocky "We aren't really worried about TCU"...so yeah, with that attitude, I've been hoping for UT losses every week to give his ass a reality check.
  5. About Dickey having their number...what is his record vs. NMSU?
  6. I just updated all my stuff and it says there's an invalid file path or link.
  7. Any news on $$ raised for the stadium? If I still had my old job, pre-suicide attempt, I'd definitely dump about 10 grand into it.
  8. Troy's already there. FAU wins one more, they're in. FIU is probably a guarantee. MTSU probably won't beat Troy, but if they did, that would make three. IF ULM takes Bama today and beats ULaLa, that's four. And a win by Arky St. over Southern Miss, however unlikely would make five. A long shot, I know, but overall, is this the best season for the SBC?
  9. Okay, so MTSU is fun to turn to MUTS. What else? A few I've noticed: Colorado State-COLOST...I always add "O, my!". (Colostomy for anyone who missed it). Western Kentucky-WKY--WacKY U. LA-Lafayetee-ULaLA (Ooh, La La!) And in general..Golden Gophers? What the heck?! Who else has one?
  10. Wow, so...maybe they shouldn't go for contracts like that. Though it's been said Notre Dame is "America's Team" in College Football.
  11. Notre Dame and Duke are on NBC. It's one thing to be on ESPN at 3am or something, but EVERYONE is getting this game on their TVs. I know they usually schedule these way before the season starts, but don't they also change the TV schedule sometimes, like oh, I don't know...WHEN BOTH TEAMS ARE 1-9???
  12. Remember a few years ago, what's-his-name, Hawaii's old QB, was going to break some TD or passing yards record, I forget which, and people were debating if it should be allowed since they already had 12-game seasons instead of the 11 everyone else was still playing? I don't think an asterisk or debate or anything would be a good idea, especially since...well, do we really want to draw any more attention to it than necessary? Though I agree, I don't see us giving up 30 to FIU. ESPN.com bottom 10 pillow fights of the year, 6 of the Bottom 10 teams play each other in the next couple weeks. Us vs. FIU, Duke vs. Notre Dame, and Idaho vs. Utah State. Now that's just sad and sick. Especially since we went from a Power 16 a few years ago back to the Bottom 10.
  13. Oh, hell yes. Was talking to my wife about this thread...I don't at all mind if Dodge turns us into a UT or USC or whatever, getting our QB rocking before he starts, then putting him in as a junior and senior, and he wins the Heisman in one of two years starting. Yeah, I know at times they go with freshmen (like Colt McCoy this time around at Texas), but having enough good QBs that we are on a biennial two-year rotation would be a good thing. But again, hell yes. Having a dual QB/RB situation would be awesome if we could work it out as well.
  14. I agree. And since I passed up law school, I don't know the specifics, but even in agreements like that, when it's made public, discussion (even direct quotes) are permissable, as long as you aren't basically giving away the entire article...and even that, eventually, even with such "Terms of Service", can be quoted. I think with things like this, which is basically online print media, it's a week or something like that. But again, you'd have to check with those who actually took the scholarships, not me, to be certain.
  15. The only upside to Bobby Ray leaving is not hearing him tell the same bad jokes at graduation. I think the man had EVERY strong point EXCEPT humor. Marjorie Craft came to the NAACP and had a few tough questions thrown at her, and some big changes happened within weeks, which is fast. I'm curious as to why she had such a short tenure on a Board that tends to have extremely long-term members. As far as the new members go, time will tell. In any appointed public office, even one so specifically tied to an area/group/school/etc, some people act in ways in office that may seem very out of character based on previous positions, offices, and so forth.
  16. MAN, you guys are anti-Dickey. I'll agree, he was pretty abrasive, nearly a jerk (I wasn't the only student to see him on campus, wave and say, "Hey, Coach!" and have him just stare at me). BUT...under Dickey, we had twice as many bowl games as we had had in UNT HISTORY. True, some of the years we kicked ass and didn't get bowls were due to sports-politics and such, but regardless, 4 in a row is quite a bit for where we had been over time. I've criticized the game plans, lack of conditioning, and such as well, but you can't change the fact that, though many of the wins were against unimpressive teams, you'd expect a truly crappy program to lose a few conference and/or home games during the streaks we had in the Dickey era. I DO see Dodge blowing that out of the water over time (if he sticks around once we see some great successes, which I hope he does), but I still feel like DD (can we only use those initials when talking about Daredevil from now on?) made a ton of progress here, and laid a decent foundation for us to truly get back into the D-IA scene. And per a previous thread...I think if Scotty Hall was in this offense, he'd be putting up these kinds of numbers as well...at least by his senior year. Look at Meager, and how he changed under Dodge. Scott never had much chance to put up a super-sweet passing game, but was still a great leader, and I think that also had a lot to do with our bowl games, even when he was out and Andrew was in. Plus, we might have won that first New Orleans Bowl if Scott hadn't refused to go out and was basically playing on ONE LEG before getting surgery the next week. Bottom line: It was Dickey's job to make us mediocre, and it's Dodge's job to take us to the next level. Anyone agree?
  17. Anybody see the numbers Arky St. and UCF held Texas to? Might be a good place to start as far as people who would actually switch over here...
  18. Haven't been in for a game since the Tulsa game 2 years ago, but yeah, it used to be pathetic. Like if we had 500 students using their free tickets it was a good turnout. As I pointed out to Allen, I've only witnessed 3 home losses since 97. He jokingly said I should get free tickets for life if we could have that kind of home record over 8 years if I always came. Guess I'm just lucky! (Losses: UNLV, FAU, Tulsa...sorry, haven't made every game!)
  19. When Johnny first came they pledged to quit if they weren't in the NCAA tourney by the 4th year, and it took what, 6 or 7? Guess we should be glad we didn't ask him to follow through with THAT pledge...
  20. We actually wanted to catch this one even more than Homecoming, but new baby made both impossible. Here's hoping next year has something just as cool, when Carter can flash his tiny little talons!
  21. I can understand maybe wanting to go after someone close like SMU or TCU, and yeah, it would be great to beat an OU or Arkansas or such for the first time in a while, but really... Has anyone else noticed we really show up for some games and not for others? Players, fans, whatever. We're NOT a huge football school, but we DO have HUGE potential. Shouldn't EVERY game be THE ONE we "really show up to play"? This goes WAY back to something I learned in high school, but one of my coaches continually put it in our heads that when you're going up against somebody who is supposed to be better than you, you don't just try to "lose better" (basically, beat the spread)...you STILL get out there and KNOW that if you put your head in the game and do BETTER than anyone, even you, expects you to do. Any thoughts on that? Notice that we've done almost as poorly against the Belt or others recently (i.e. Tulsa) as we have against the Empires. I really think our guys just go out there expecting to lose and hoping for the "best loss" possible. Screw that, and screw losing. Is that the attitude that we have? The UNT page on Myspace seems to think so.
