  1. Well, at least that wasn't creepy or anything.
  2. Dropped soap comments were one reason I avoided showering with other dudes in high school. Another reason was that it was...showering with other dudes in high school.
  3. Was that referring to me or another Jesse? Because for anyone other than my wife to know that I'm even awake at 5:10 is creepy since I've hardly ever been anything but asleep around 5am in my life. So I really hope you were referring to another Jesse...
  4. Actually, lots of places have a sort of "All Things BS" area, usually labeled "Off Topic". When we were doing our mini-publication of like 40 rotating artists, we had one that DID cover politics, cars, toys, women, movies, you name it. A few of us had gotten to know each other really well over the years and went there regularly, and the couple hundred other guys who were mostly fans of a couple of the contributors didn't bother... Just showing that people who don't want to talk off-topic won't go there, but the community you create might enjoy the banter with one another without having to go somewhere else, especially if they feel about this board like some of us felt about the other board-some of us know each other in person, but we all pretty much remember each other on here and can recognize each other. 2 of the contributors to that other board were the co-creator of 30 Days of Night and the current Editor in Chief of Marvel Comics...does that give me celebrity sponsorship?
  5. And which lesson is that, if it's not "show people they can push you around your whole life"?
  6. I remember that a lot of the people I talked to really liked Coach Simon...maybe not how the team was doing, but the few people in my very early college career that had anything to say about him all thought he was a really nice guy. Glad he's doing well.
  7. Hmmm. Maybe we should take a poll. My guess is nine if she was only here briefly.
  8. Great. Paris Hilton was in Denton...now we have to sanitize the entire town.
  9. I think the question should be, are there any requirements at all? I've only ever played intramurals and pick-up games, wasn't allowed to try out as a kid. I'm still really fast though, but of course 10 years of smoking has reduced my ability to keep the speed for long periods...100 yards sounds good though Let's hope I can still catch
  10. I ended up at 18-14. If not for going, "hmmm...coaching changes and injuries...and every team in California is choking this year..." and picking Cal, USC, WV and Oregon instead of Air Force, Illinois, Oklahoma, and South Florida, I'd have been 22-10. Oh well.
  11. If I made $2 mil a year for 2 years, I wouldn't even care if I kept my job, I'd invest invest invest. I could live the rest of my life off of the interest very comfortably.
  12. Oh yeah...I forgot they're doing the Saturday games. Well, the big one to watch this weekend.
  13. This is so funny. I have some RTVF friends who may help me produce a pilot that we will try to sell to networks. It's tentatively titled "Beat the Bully", which is a crappy name but we haven't come up with a better one yet. The premise is that people face those that beat them up when they were kids, and there will be interviews and such, backgrounds on both people...and then they get together and talk, and if that doesn't resolve things, they go into a ring and the "rag doll" gets another shot to fight the "bully" from their childhood. I figured we'd just use me for the pilot and then if it gets picked up, have a different person each episode. So...I found one of the guys from my childhood and talked to him for almost an hour. It was kind of creepy, because he was so freaking nice, as nice as I used to be, which is almost sickeningly nice. He was all spiritual and apologetic and wanted nothing to do with it. It's just weird and almost frustrating, and I don't know if any of you can identify with this, but when well over half of your life is primarily based on trying to hide from people who beat the hell out of you, and then you become something new but still have the lingering effects of everything they did to you, it's very strange to have this kind of reversal. I mean, I really want to have a (legal) rematch with these guys, and I think most of those who grew up like me would feel the same...but then they turn around and are super-nice. I told him I wanted to tear off his lower jaw and beat him to death with it, and he seemed totally fine with that. It's so odd that the 300-pound lineman who beat my face into a cement wall is completely non-aggressive when confronted by the person he beat the crap out of. I guess even a-holes can surprise you and make life more interesting. It's not that I don't understand the complexity of peoples' humanity, but I never saw much of most of these guys other than their aggression and physical force. It's almost endearing to see them change into at least moderately kind individuals.
  14. I'm with you on the NFC. AFC though...I don't know. I still think somebody will take down the Pats, not sure if it will be the Jags though. And I think the Chargers/Colts game will be either really close, or one team will choke and it'll be a romp. Cowboys aside, I think that game will be the one to watch on Sunday.
  15. I was so excited about the art prospects and stuff, I wasn't even thinking of it as "advertising", since I'm not a company or anything, but yeah, it's pretty obvious to me now. I emailed Cerebus and asked if we might ever get an "announcements" section to talk about babies, art shows, whatever else people have going on, for non-sports type networking and chances to support each other, so if you think it's a good idea, I propose that you email him as well. I guess until that happens, if there is anybody who wants to know about exhibits and stuff, just send me a PM and I'll forward info to you whenever I have a show. I look forward to seeing - in person - some mean green in the future, even if just to say hi and check stuff out. Again, sorry for hijacking the Non-UNT Sports section with it, and if you are one of the interested parties, drop me a line and I'll send you updates and schedules and such.
  16. lol Rick sounds like me! I'm thrilled to see SMU get a good and exciting coach.
  17. I think it means a lot to future games. Jones vs. Dodge, how cool and fun will that be?
  18. Sorry if I should have posted this in the Non-UNT Sports spot, tough choice, there. Who do you think will take the NFL Playoff games next week? Will the Cowboys, at least for one game, overcome the recent Dallas Choke Curse? Manning thinks they can take us at home...during the playoffs. If Romo and the lines are rocking, and we don't drop passes, I think Eli will be eating his own jock strap (Adam Sandler fans will get this reference).
  19. ...and when he was here, he was the youngest OC in the country. Where is he at now?
  20. Who knows. I bounced to the Pony board and one guy said, "there is a former national championship winner waiting in the wings, in addition to a coach who has had incredible success at the two mid-major programs in the region that he coached and at least moderate success at the Big 12 school in the state he coached." I'm assuming the latter is referring to Fran, but are these guys really just "waiting" for the SMU offer? One way or the other, I hope they get a good and exciting coach, and SOON. I want some awesome games when we play each other again!
  21. Unfortunately, you aren't far from the truth. Part of the problem is that political scientists are still debating over which is the correct model to use in pretty much every area of analysis, with the answer being that maybe none of them is quite right yet and things have to be tweaked before a truly proper model can come into vogue. Though there is a much greater percentage of liberal professors and authors than would fit with national averages of politicians, voters, educators, you name it, there has yet to be a clear-cut model that "takes the cake" and is generally accepted. I only point out the abundance of liberalism to show that the lack of consensus has nothing to do with a partisan discussion, only a scholarly one. And when I say "authors", I'm referring to scholarly works, not punditry. Pundits are probably about equal on both sides, but all you need to publish is a decent working knowledge, some facts, and people who want to read what you say, so be careful putting too much stock into any of it...any political work is certainly more than deserving of a grain of salt.
  22. I Heart Adler. SMU should either get a freaking coach like NOW, or just say screw it and promote one of their other FB coaches to head coach. I know that wouldn't be as good as getting Jones or even Fran, or many of the other names, but hell, SOME coach is better than none. And who knows, sometimes greatness is bred from necessity. Who knows what kind of potential might be in an OC, DC, etc? We might find out soon if they don't get a "name" coach.
  23. Both teams have great D so it will be a very defensive game, but their offenses are really good too, so I think it'll be about 1 TD each per quarter. I mean, it's the national championship, so they're going to go balls-to-the-wall. I don't see either team cracking 40, but I also don't expect a 10-3 win or anything like that.
