  1. DENTON - “Peter Pan” is retired at North Texas, realistically, if not officially. Word is the NCAA might outlaw the sort of fake fair catch that resulted in Keegan Brewer’s wildly entertaining 90-yard punt return for a touchdown against Arkansas. Never mind that it seems like criminalizing creativity. Probably keeps a poor imitation from disaster. Also now a moot point at UNT. As good an actor as Brewer is, he’s not fooling anyone again with that Emmy-caliber performance. Not since it’s been seen on SportsCenter, Sunday Night Football, Inside Edition, College Football Live, NBC Nightly News and Good Morning America. Not to mention, Brewer’s been on ESPNU radio, a couple or three XM stations and all through the locals. If you haven’t heard of Brewer or “Peter Pan” or Seth Littrell by now, you cut off more than your cable. “I told our marketing people this morning that they were brilliant,” UNT’s athletic director, Wren Baker, said. “I can’t think of a strategy or a dollar figure that would have brought the same attention to this university.” Here’s the deal: “Peter Pan” didn’t simply join the pantheon of “Kick Six,” “Lateralpalooza,” the Stanford band and Tyler John Tyler making Mike Zoffuto want to throw up. The sheer virtuosity overshadowed the fact that UNT, now 3-0 and receiving Top 25 votes, didn’t just beat an SEC team on the road, it humbled Arkansas. read more: https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/untmeangreen/2018/09/18/unt-college-footballs-sleeping-giant-becoming-nationally-relevant
  2. College football needs compelling storylines. Here’s an intriguing possibility, and it’s not ridiculous: As a Heisman Trophy finalist, North Texas junior quarterback Mason Fine travels to New York in December. “That would be the most surreal moment,” Fine said during a Tuesday telephone connection. “I’ve never really even thought about that.” In 1987, Holy Cross’ Gordie Lockbaum was a halfback, a defensive back and kickoff returner. He finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting. A former Locust Grove superstar and the most prolific passer in the history of Oklahoma high school football, Fine could be a Lockbaum or Doug Flutie type of figure in this year’s Heisman process. read more: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/bill-haisten-an-intriguing-thought-mason-fine-as-a-heisman/article_b68aa2fc-6ca2-5e4b-b2a6-580ca01de5fd.amp.html

  5. FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas' fans left Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Saturday evening still not sure they had witnessed the home team lose to North Texas 44-17. One way of showing their displeasure on Saturday was loud boos at end of first half and when Cole Kelley threw his fourth interception of the day. The loudest cheer of the day may have been when Connor Noland entered the game. Following the game, Chad Morris talked to the media. A trio of players were also brought into the media room. Santos Ramirez, Jared Cornelius and Hjalte Froholdt were the three players made available. Each expressed some form of disappointment with the boos from the fans. I will point out the boos were directed at Morris for playing Kelley as much or more than they were at the sophomore quarterback himself. I am not into booing. I have never been to a game to watch a team play and booed. Fans are frustrated right now and while Morris will get a lot of criticism one has to understand it's more than three games that has fans upset. Fans are upset because Arkansas is now entering his seventh year in a row of watching the Razorbacks struggling on the field. read more: https://www.nwahomepage.com/pig-trail-nation/the-morning-after-this-loss-will-sting-for-a-long-time/1450018200
  6. FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - North Texas used six interceptions to defeat Arkansas 44-17 on Saturday in Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Starting quarterback Cole Kelley was 16 of 35 passing for 185 yards with four interception. He did run for a 5-yard touchdown. The Arkansas fans in attendance booed loudly after halftime and then when Kelley threw his fourth interception in the third quarter. Wide receiver Jared Cornelius took exception to the boos. "It's really easy to pick one guy to point a finger at," Cornelius said. "For the majority of the first half I think that guy was Cole at least by the outside world. I think the receivers could run better routes, the offensive line could protect better and guys can get out on their checks and chip defensive ends. "When you come out of the locker room to start the second half and your starting quarterback is getting booed by the home team. When is that right? How is that right? I feel I have been holding this in for a minute, but at the end of the day that is someone's son, someone's brother, that's my brother. I'm not gonna sit around like that is OK. When a guy comes in the second half we're still in the game and they are booing him. That's not the standard, that's not gonna be the standard." read more: https://www.nwahomepage.com/pig-trail-nation/north-texas-routs-arkansas-44-17-behind-six-interceptions/1448874446
  7. You have probably already seen the 90-yard punt return touchdown North Texas put on Arkansas on Saturday, en route to a 44-17 destruction of the Razorbacks. And you will probably smile when you watch it right now for the 36th time, because it is that wild. You also might have questions about how the hell it happened. Same. So SB Nation talked Saturday night with the two people most involved in the play’s existence: UNT special teams coordinator Marty Biagi and punt returner Keegan Brewer. read more: https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2018/9/16/17864636/north-texas-fake-fair-catch-punt-return-td
  8. By flameshaw - September 15th, 2018, 6:08 pm#558483NT is beating Arkansas 34-10 at the half. They look to have few weaknesses. Their QB is very good, but doesn't handle pressure well. They tackle hard and are hard to bring down. Think that Buckshot can pass on them, if he has some time. IF they play like they are today, it is going to be a long day next Saturday. We are really going to have to step up to play them close. Anyone else watching the game? Thoughts? 9. Lotta time left - don’t need a Houston Oiler finish here. Play it smart!

  11. If Tech is offered he will take it. KU is a little tougher sell.
  12. Assuming all goes well, and we don't have a monumental Portland State type of scenario, you should pull Mason Fine extremely quickly in this game. There's too much at stake, and although it will hurt his national statistics, you have to think about this from a longer term perspective. It is clear from the SMU game, despite the coaches instructions, Fine will put himself in harms way for the good of the team. This is an admirable quality, and part of why he is such a great player and teammate. However, this is a game on paper NT should win and there is no reason to risk the entire season and lose the MVP of the program so we can bump up stats. Get Quinn Shanbour some snaps but also take FULL advantage of the new redshirt rules (4 games) and give the young guys like Pearson, Bean and Martin some reps as well.
