  1. I pretty much align with you on 1. and 2., Eagle96, with modifications to 1. I support offering Leavitt but think Canales is ready for the job if it plays out that way. Fran is a whore...no thanks.
  2. I am impressed with what I have seen from Coach Chico so far, and I already opined in another thread that I think the man is qualified to be considered. I'm coming around to the idea stated previously in this thread that if we hire an assistant from any program, Coach Chico has earned the inside track. I'm just holding out to see what options we have to consider when Neinas checks his traps and delivers the results of his hunt.
  3. It will be raining bird guts! If you don't have a pop-up tent, find a way to cover your stuff. Will this placement interfere with tennis and softball?
  4. My beef is with Troy playing over our Alma Mater. I think it is rude and disrespectful. As far as their band, they just play in an upbeat and energetic "pep band" style which is designed to energize their fans. I am a big fan of the Green Brigade and their style, but I also thought that Troy's band added to the atmosphere. I was glad they came and thought perhaps they would perform on the field, but they were obviously a skeleton crew. It would have been sportsmanlike to invite them to share a number with the Green Brigade, but I guess bands don't do that anymore.
  5. I had that game on in the background while doing other stuff. I distinctly remember one of the guys calling the game make a comment like "that was another uninspired route" or "effort" by Moss. Sounded like they were dogging him pretty good.
  6. Thanks for your post, SleepingGiantsFan. It WAS interesting and informative.
  7. Good question! There are people with whom I work and cooperate to achieve company objectives that I don't give a damn about personally. I guess it could be that way in coaching, although it seems to me it would be tougher because of the "togetherness". This looks to me like a win - win for Canales if he is able to show he is head coach material. He has a good resume and if he can put a little spark in this team over the next five games it will be an enhancement for him.
  8. Plumm, please allow me to expand and clarify. I have no doubt that we are the prettiest girl in the Sunbelt when it comes to flirting with the coaches we have discussed. But suppose New Mexico, Arizona State, Washington State, Minnesota and some of those other b**c%#s show up at the dance and flash their busticles. The coach(es) we have our eye on may spurn us and go to the hayloft with one (or more) of them.
  9. Make an offer while we still have some leverage. If this turns into a coaches' market, we'll end up in a damned bidding war. Git 'er done!
  10. I realize they are "undocumented" but read the readers' comments!
  11. We made the decision to terminate the coach and timed it so that we can openly recruit and hire a coach to be on the ground here ASAP. We need recruiting NOW...YESTERDAY! Failure to get in gear will result in another minimal recruiting class and the consequences of that down the road. Coaches with the character we demand are not going to bail on their teams before the end of the season, and if they are really successful that might be after the bowls. We must act decisively now on what is available...and there is a lot of coaching expertise available and ready to hit the ground running. Git 'er done!!
  12. Amen to the above. I played in Indiana, 59 - 63. Roughly the same experience, just not as much heat. Lots of salt tablets! 59 was the last year for the leather helmets at my school. We had a single bar face mask. Played OG and linebacker; we went both ways, but it means something else now. If you got injured, coach told you to suck it up and fix it after practice. I would not trade anything for the experience; it prepared me for life as it really is.
  13. That is a man we would be lucky to have as our coach.
  14. I'm going to the southwest corner of the basement, turn on the radio broadcast by George and Hank, tuck my head between my legs, and prepare to kiss my Mean Green ass goodbye.
  15. Happy Birthday to you, Emmitt. You are getting older now, and without this coaching change I was afraid you were going to have the "big one". I look forward to seeing you alive and well for many more seasons!
  16. We need a coach that is comprised of the best traits of Todd Dodge and Vlad the Impaler. Don't give us a namby, pamby coach, you jackwagons! I am resigned to the fact that we will not find the "perfect" coach. I hope that a coach that exhibits a majority of our ideal traits will step up to the challenge and accept our job offer. I trust RV to make the right call.
  17. This! Where is Woody Hayes when you need him?
  18. That article pretty much says it in a nutshell. He is a strong man and will land on his feet. I have to shake my head because, while he may have had some shortcomings (don't know of any, just speculating), the guy had the worst run of luck of any coach I know of in such a short timespan. SNAKEBIT! Sometimes a change is the only way to shake it. Sad for them, sad for us.
  19. Put him in the hat! If we settle on an up-and-comer, he looks like a good candidate to me.
  20. Now that is an example of what a football coach is! I've seen that before, and remember him from when we played USF. My old high school coach was cast from the same mold, and it brings back fond memories interspersed with moments of sheer terror. I'm sure there will be a small group of great candidates and he would have to be among them.
  21. After thinking about this, my four most logical in descending order would be: Jim Leavitt Terry Bowden Dennis Franchione Jeff Bower
  22. I only played in high school and we got physically "motivated" by coaches whenever we deserved it. If I had told my father, he would have kicked my ass for being such a complaining sissy! It never went overboard and was part of the learning process. Made us stronger and more focused.
