  1. My wife and I had a great time at TJ Hartford's this last Staurday. As far as all the photos they should end up on the UNT Exes events site in the not too distant future. Brian and TJ Hartford's were great to help stage this event. I think we should all make sure that we visit the restaurant again and support the folks who support UNT. Brian is a grad and wanted to do something to promote UNT. THANK YOU BRIAN AND T J HARTFORDS. I think we had a really nice turnout, and I think everyone who attended had a good time being part of the event. Thanks also to the Denton Chapter of the Exes and to the Athletic Department. It's fun to be part of what's happening at UNT these days...both on the athletic and the academic side! SEE YOU AT NORMAN for the first game of the T Dodge era at UNT....it will be great! Go Mean Green....
  2. My wife and I will be there! So will the SINK NAVY T-Shirts...come get 'em!
  3. My wife and I will be there. We have eaten at TJ Hartford's several times and have always enjoyed ourselves. This should be a fun event for the whole family. The "Sink Navy" T-shirts will be there for sale along with Exes membership "stuff". The Athletic Dept. will have posters, schedules, etc., etc. And with the cheerleaders there doing the "cheek" thing with the eagle decals, everyone should have a blast...hey...free chips and salso and $1.25 pints and cheerleaders....what's not to like??? The event will run from 1PM to 6PM on the 18th. See you there...and wear your Mean Green "stuff". Thanks to T J Hartford's for wanting to do something to support UNT! We need more folks like this...thanks for the support. Now, let's get the Mean Green Nation out to support TJ Hartford's. GO MEAN GREEN!
  4. I'm a bit with "Huff" on this one. Yes, we need to build a new stadium to replace Fouts ASAP. But, until that happens, I am glad to see a bit of "faceliffting" going on at Fouts. Like it or not, it is our home for several more years, at least, and I, for one, would like the "old girl" to look as pretty as possible while it is still our "home". Lots of memories originate from Fouts Field for me. But, I'm looking forward to new great memories ... this year, next year, etc. Fouts or new stadium...just win baby! GO MEAN GREEN....
  5. No shirts available at the cookout as that was all athletic department shirts/hats, etc. The Sink navy shirts are an Exes thing. They can be purchased through the Exes at UNT. They are for sale at the Exes Office on campus...and, as I understand it...they will be for sale before each home game leading up to the Navy game by the Exes in the Tailgating Fun Zone area...look for the Exes tent...should be there. Hope to see lots and lots of folks at the Navy game wearing the Sink Navy Tee! GO MEAN GREEN....And, by the way...if you call or stop by the Exes office to get a Tee, why not join the Exes at the same time if you are not already a member??? Just a thought!
  6. Make sure you are wearing your "Sink Navy" T-Shirt to the game. The Middies love this sort of thing...have you ever been to an Army-Navy game? It's amazing what signs are in the stadium. We don't need to go there, but our "Sink Navy" T-shirts will definitely be a hit with the Navy crowd...they "understand" these things quite well. I would not be surprised if some of the Navy crowd shows up in their own version of a "sink UNT"...or something...T-Shirt. Anyway, I hear the Exes will have the shirts on sale at the first home game...and perhaps all the games leading up to Navy. You can, of course, drop by the Exes Center on campus and buy a shirt or two or three. We need to turn FOUTS GREEN..... My son is a naval officer, and I'm sending him a "Sink Navy" shirt...I've dared him to wear it around the base just to see what he can stir up! He may just be smarter than that, but........ This will be a tough game for us, but I think we can win the thing here at home. Would be a great win for us...We need to schedule Army, Navy and Air Force as often as we can. I'll bet they will play us home and home since the DFW area is such a great supplier of Midshipmen and Cadets to all the Service Academies. GO MEAN GREEN...BEAT NAVY! Heck...BEAT EVERYONE ON THE SCHEDULE!
  7. Not my idea of a quality "sports guy"...I can do completely without Bryant Gumbel ... or Pam Ward for that matter!
  8. AND...that is what is GREAT about TD and his attitude...he EXPECTS to go 12-0! I'm with him on that attitude...you are 100% right...if, as a team and as a coaching staff, you do not expect to go 12-0, you darn sure will not! Let's just don't, as fans, get our expectations so high that we become unreasonable as to what to expect from this first TD team. Me, I expect to see a GREAT game and a GREAT effort each and every time the team takes the field. I expect them to EXPECT that they can beat any and all comers. As RV said at the Cookout...no loner will we schedule a game for the money...when we go, we go to win! We want folks to come to see UNT play, not to see who is playing UNT! Not exact quotes for sure, but I think that's the message to both the team and the fans. Sure is great to see that attitudel...you can't be a big time program if you don't think and act like a big time program. Let's welcome UNT to the BIG TIME! GO MEAN GREEN! Buy Season Tickets, join the Exes and join the Mean Green Club! It's fun to be GREEN again!!!!!!!
  9. It was GREAT to see the turnout at the Kickoff Cookout last saturday evening. I am told that over 600 attended. It was crowded, and that's a good thing...I think we saw some "growing pains" in that the food line, a single line, was stacked up for sometime as folks tried to catch a bite to eat...but, the reason it was is due to a large extent by the number of people attending. Not near as many in the past. Even with the temp nearing 100 there was no sign of anything but excitement about the season to come. One word of caution folks...I hope some folks expectations for this season are not set too high...I heard people talking about a 7 win season. Not sure at all about that. Let's let this new coachiong staff get their feet under them before we place too high expectations on their new program. I would hate to see a less than full stadium on Sept. 22nd for our first home game because we didn't beat OU or Arkansas on their home turff! It has been quite awhile since I was so excited about the start of UNT football season...and...the excitement is growing. The line was long to pick up season tickets, and the boxes holding the ticket envelopes were many! I hope we get a good count of season ticket sales before too long. I would bet they are up a great many from last season. If you havene't signed up for the us trip to OU...think about doing so. It will be a great time, and it's a great price! Let's make certain we will Fouts for the first...and every...home game this season. Let's get behind this team and coaching staff. O.K., enough alreday...I am fired up and ready for Dodge-Ball! A good time was had by all (at least all I talked with) Staurday evening...and it has only just begun. While you are at it...Joing the Exes and join the Mean Green Club!
  10. They are free if you were a season ticket holder AND were RENEWING AND you met the deadline for early renewal. That's the way it was explained to me. There are no hard tickets as such...just reserve you spot and number of attendees if you meet the two above requirements...if not call and reserve your spot and pay up...it's a pretty low cost event...lots of fans, lots of friends and lots of fun...plus you can eat and drink...see you there!
  11. As I am not "chat board" proficient...I'll risk the "heat" I will surely take and ask... What does "Bump" mean when one responds to a post?????
  12. Isn't it grand??? I love this little bit of reverse strip-tease. I think the folks in the Athletic dept. who thought this up should be given a pat on the back...just how often will folks be going to the web site to see the uniform develop? Great idea...the idea is to get folks to the site as often as possible in the hopes of generating interest, anticipation for the team, new donars, ticket sales, etc., etc. When was the last time you saw something like this on the Athletic Dept. site????? Give them some credit for doing something positive! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
  13. Hey, it's SMU...what did you expect? They never have had "a clue". But, put me down in the camp of those who like the "It's Wide Open" thing! Has oh so many different meanings...but, for me, it says something about how we expect to see some exciting football around UNT...for a change...a VERY good change. See you at Fouts!
  14. I've got two tickets and am #8 on the list for the bus. This is going to be lots of fun...so, let's get this thing filled up and rolling. How great would it be if we needed two buses????? Come on...get on board. My two tickets cost $94.00 - not cheap to see OU these days! I hear there are plenty left...check with the ticket office ASAP and get onboard for the first game of the Dodge era at UNT! GO MEAN GREEN...see ya on the bus!
  15. Just a question...what about OU tickets? Are we "ordering" for OU as yet? Thanks...
  16. So, Adler...where do you work and where do you live? Let's see...if it is Southern Denton County...why not start your own Exes Chapter...there is, in fact, susposed to be a southern Denton County Chapter...but, it never seems to get off the ground because no one wants to step up and volunteer their time and talent to get it going. You could do that, and then you could start your meetings at whatever time and on whatever day you wanted. How about that? I KNOW for a fact that the current Denton County board would be more than willing to help you get it going. It would probably take a wee bit of effort on your part, and on others who live in southern Denton County, but the effort would be worth it...if you are really interested. The payoff is worth the effort if you make it so. I will say again...I mentioned the Denton Board is looking for volunteers to help on a committee to set up a 5K in early March....Still no one has responded with an offer to volunteer. I'll bet they would even set the meetings for 7PM. Any interest?
  17. That's good news...we need to keep the sales going. It's high time that "walk-up" ticket sales were only general admission/end zone seats! Now, what about the student sections? Will we actually look across and see students in the seats for a change???? Let's hope so...I recall when I was an undergrad...oh, so many years ago...that we went early as pledges to "stake out" seats for the fraternity...there were excellent student crowds and it was great to be in the stands as a student...so, where have they gone??? Anyone know what is being done to get the student side filled????
  18. RUDE???? What in the "sam hill" are you talking about???? In case you forgot, the event was an event by the Denton COUNTY EXES! Friends of mine who work in Carrollton were there on time. I also know of a guest from Rowlett and one who works on Preston Road in Dallas...all made it. I guess you think it's rude to hold an event with no cost, open it up to all (members or not), provide food and beverages (both adult and no-lead") at no cost, hand out door prizes (including tickets to homecomming and the new metal UNT Exes auto logos), arrange for the dance team, cheer squad and Scrappy to attend, arrange for Coach Dodge to speak, etc., etc. All by a group of non-paid volunteers who gave up a great deal of their time and talent to put this "shing-dig" on...man, you have a different sense of rude than I do. If that was rude...give me rude! How much do you think of your annual dues goes to the Denton Chapter??? NOT MUCH! The Denton Chapter raises it's own operating funds and works to get donations for events, etc. That event last evening cost more than the Denton Chapter gets from it's share of dues! But, I wouldn't want facts to get in the way of your complaining...now would I? It is not a dinner...it's a mixer! Anyway....if you live in Dallas...why don't you work with the Dallas Chapter to set some mixers set up in Dallas at a time you like? Same for Ft. Worth. Don't knock the Denton Chapter because they are doing something! Sorry that some folks couldn't make it...but if you are a Denton Chapter member and communte to Dallas or Ft. Worth...or elsewhere...as I do, you know the drill, and you know how to arrange schedules for early events you really would like to attend. I have commutted for about 30 years from Denton to either Dallas or Ft. Worth. Yes, I missed a few events....but, not ones I really had to or wanted to attend. You just make "arrangements" as they say...I have been there...done that! The "invitations" went out in plenty of time to arrange schedules. Again, yes, I know some folks have jobs that are not flexible at all. It would be impossible to find a time EVERYONE likes. We have members who would like to see them earlier, on weekends, etc. We have members who would not come if they were earlier, later, on weekends, etc. You just have to "pick your poison" and go with it. Adler...where are you coming from?...were you there? Did you see the "new faces" of board members that were recognized and introduced? Let me get this straight...every one of you folks "complaining" would have been there if it started at 7:00PM, right? So, crowds of over 200 should be expected if the time just started at 7PM? I know of several Denton residents who indicated they were coming, but did not make it for one rason or another. You think it was the time of the event? Easy to complain....I do enough of it myself...Tougher to get involved and volunteer your time. By the way...Denton Chapter Board members began arriving at 2:00PM (for the 6PM event) to help set-up, deliver beverages, work tables, etc. Would love to have your help...some of the board, I know, had to take personal time from work to help with the event. By the way...later start times were tried in the past...with little to no success in increasing attendance. This was not the "first rodeo" the Denton Chapter set-up...you do know that, right? Anyway, all things considered...the night was GREAT! Apologies to those who could not make it...for whatever reason...sometimes even unexpected guests show up, right Firefighter Rick? Wouldn't have matterd what the start time was on that one...things happen. No problem...there is another mixer planned by the Denton Chapter for October....come on down! We would love to have you...by the way...in my last post on the mixer I asked if anyone was interested in volunteering to work on a committee that is setting up the first annual 5K sponsored by the Exes...funny, no one has indicated any interest in helping. Hmmmmmmmmmmm...it is easier to sit on a chat board and write away......I was O.K. with the "time concerns" until the word "rude" entered the discussion....Me, I think it's a bit more rude to complain when you aren't willing to step up and help make it better. That's it for me on this matter...I say "thanks" to the Denton Exes for getting the year started in the right direction with a nice event....didn't cost me a dime and I had several adult beverages, some nice munchies and got to hear a some good words from Rick V. and Coach Dodge...not to mention getting to see Jason ball, Wendall Williams and Johnny Q. I had a great evening...and I made it on time! Sorry for those who could not make it...hope it's on a better day/time for you in October...see you there if it is! All are welcome...just support the GREEN! Come on Dodge Ball...It's WIDE OPEN!
  19. I agree, the Exes event was great! Bigger crowd than usual, and that's the goal of the local exes....lot's being planned by the Denton Chapter for this year.. 1. A October Mixer...stay tuned for details...looking at a basketball preview event with Johnny J...and a note from one of our strong academic areas 2. A january Mixer...theme to be determined 3. An April Cook-out Mixer at the new UNT Research park 4. The First Annual UNT Exes 5K run...looking at March 8th 5. The Annual Exes Auction in early April. 6. An AFTER-GAME tailgating event at the Exes Center after our first football game on the 22nd of Sept. Let's have some more fun while we let the traffic subside... Folks, the local group is TRYING! Help them out by joining and PARTICIPATING.....The Sink Navy shirt was also on-sale last evening...several more were purchased...I hear Navy has already asked for about 7000 tickets! We need to fill the stadium with SINK NAVY T-Shirts...more shirts will be for sale at the first football game. Very nice evening...not only were ex-football and basketball players there...the dance team, cheer squad and Scrappy were all in attendance....AND, yes, you can get there by 6:00PM....we had guests from all ovet the DFW Metroplex! Come join....help the Exes and get in on the action! Anyone want to serve on a committee to set up the First Annual 5K?
  20. good luck guys! Do Not bet more than you can afford to lose....as my wise father once told me about Las Vegas..."They don't build those big beautiful casinos and give out free drinks because they lose money!". Think about it...it's always...ALWAYS...in the favor of the house. I'm not opposed to a wager or two or a trip to Vegas...been there and done that...but, just keep it in perspective...I have never...NEVER...had anyone come back from Vegas and tell me they lost! It's always how much they won...or..."I pretty much broke even"....SURE....I can see the casinos crumbling now due to the lack of money for upkeep since everyone is winning or "breakin' even"....give me a break! Have fun...enjoy a wager or two...but keep it under control! I'll take the Mean Green and 17 vs. Zero U! No, that's not my prediction...
  21. HANG UP THE PHONES AND ENJOY THE GAME...for goodness (or whatever word you want to insert) sakes! Nothing worse than some yahoo talking on a cell phone sitting beside you while trying to watch the game...it's usually about something totally NOT IMPORTANT! Let's watch the game and let others do the same...I'm O.K. if you want to step out to the concourse or something, but please hang 'em up and turn 'em off if your sittin' in the stands.
  22. Has anyone attended the Kick-off cookout in the past...OR...have we had one? Sorry, just don't know. If we have had one, and you attended, is it worth attending? I am thinking about it so I can pick up my season tickets and enjoy some fun, but was wondering if it was more for the Kiddo's...a family type event...or something for everyone? Just wondering...I am sure I will be there anyway...I got a card that said limited seating...what;s that about? Thanks for the help with this...GO MEAN GREEN!
  23. I'm thinking we would be lucky to drawan average of 200! Let this thread die...PLEASE! Let's get the stadium going before we worry about adding any sports...P-L-E-A-S-E!
