I don't think enough is being said about this guy around here.

He's doing a fantastic job with the ladies.  I'm looking forward to seeing what they cook up for the Mustangs tonight!

Speaking for many here on GMG.com, it's just so "surprising" that a guy could come in here and take over an 11-win team, and already have them at 13-3!   I mean, it certainly should not be expected... what, with all of the roster turnover due to the portal, and what Coach Mitchell left him. </sarcasm>

Speaking for myself, it's not surprising when a winner comes in and wins.  Immediately.  Without excuse.  Takes the players he has, brings in complimentary new players, identifies quality staff, injects a winning mindset... which turns into a winning culture, and Voila! Wins pile up!

He's not a good coach "for North Texas".  He's a good coach.

I'm glad Coach Burton is here, and I look forward to a deep run in the Conference Tournament!  THIS YEAR!

I’ve always believed culture trumps everything.  Instill (and reinforce) a culture of accountability, no excuses,  and EXPECTED success and you will see the results you want.

This is interesting data. Thank you for tracking.
We’ve got to get this program to a point where we are no longer making excuses for attendance over the holiday break. I was at every game with my crew of 4-5 people.

Tech played on Saturday too and they played in front of a sold out arena. And yeah I am comparing us to Tech because we have the potential to get our program to that level.

Here is the key difference:  Tech fans go to games to see Tech, so things like weather, opponent, holidays, what they had for breakfast, etc. don’t keep them away.  Our “fanbase” will wait for the perfect circumstances (AND other people showing up first so it’s cool to be there) before they’ll show up in real numbers.

This game has been absolutely stolen by the refs. UTSA setup a beautiful screen to get a wide open dunk with 6 seconds left but the refs called an offensive foul for an illegal screen. It's been non-stop fouls on UTSA. So thankful we don't play Memphis on the road.

The real story was UTSA’s inability to play smart ball and close this game out.  They are who they are for a reason.

I mean, it’s not like any posts on this forum are saving the rain forest or stopping human trafficking.

But I watched a lot of college basketball this weekend and other schools have full stands and aren’t making the excuse that school isn’t in session.

Most of these kids live in DFW anyway. And plenty of them are still in Denton.

I drove over an hour to be there. I give my money and time to support this program and I believe the student support should be a lot better than it was yesterday.

First, you are not wrong about the students…the VAST majority of our student body lives within 45 minutes of campus.

But I would ask you to consider a few things.

    1) Our students are not “normal”.  I have long felt that being a school where the main majors are music, elementary ed, and other VERY liberal arts isn’t a recipe for having a bunch of sports fans.  Hell, we even have a recruiting commercial for the University where the theme is “we’re not normal.”

    2) With the success this team has had,  the portions of the pit that aren’t student sections are even more conspicuously empty.  Where were the promotions to celebrate the first ever AAC game at the pit?   Why haven’t I heard of a “pack the pit” night on January 25th yet…SMU is coming to our house and there should be NO trouble selling why we need a hostile atmosphere.

Somehow, some way, we need to make the pit more than a great place to quietly enjoy your nachos.

  5. Obviously Edwards’ 37 points was the main story, but a couple other tidbits of note.

    - Aaron Scott had a double-double, the only one in the game

    - Robert Allen led the team in assists

    - Tulane’s Kevin Cross averages 16.8 a game…and had 9 today
