  1. I have screws in both feet due to stress fractures. My left foot, even after x-rays, I was told was not actually a fracture. I played my entire senior season in high school, then summer ball, then pre-season workouts all the way up until about 2 weeks before the season was going to start before it started to hurt too much to keep playing on it. After 2 sets of x-rays showed nothing, we got a CT scan, which discovered the stress fracture, which is why I redshirted my freshman year. Stress fractures are not cut and dry and very often are mis-diagnosed or just not found.
  2. Hahaha what? Also, I'd take the 4 year All American.
  3. Had a great time with you guys. Turns out I do actually have some sort of football skill, guess I just played the wrong position in junior high. Lookin forward to next year already. If you want to get a basketball game goin, I of course would be fine with that. I'm starting my training for next year's games on Monday.
  4. Nice write-up for a great guy. Really good to hear he is doing well.
  5. Well, unless something has changed, UNT does. Granted, it isn't a full practice, but it isn't just a walk through either. Not a bad thing though. Keeps you from having guys sleep all day and it keeps them focused on, or at least aware of the game.
  6. Good to see they are still having the banquet...
  7. My favorite Tulsa memory was when we (basketball) played them at Tulsa and were having pregame practice. Turns out they were filming our practice with a camera that they were controlling under the jumbo-tron/scoreboard in the center of the gym. They were bright enough to start broadcasting it onto the other jumbo-tron screens in the gym, so immediately we were told to stop running through our offense and shoot free throws. Johnny rolled over a rack of balls an proceeded to throw them at the camera until he knocked it where it was pointing at the gym ceiling. And we won the game. Ah the glorious and bright minds of Tulsa athletics.
  8. I thought it was when you give somebody a swirly in an already-pissed-in toilet? But hey, I could be wrong...
  9. Who goes to a bar looking for pictures? I know that sure as heck wasn't what I was looking for in a bar...
  10. There are some on this board that would say that is strangely reminiscent of my UNT athletic career. Ba-zing...
  11. I'm not going to say anything bad about Mike. As a former teammate, what happens in the locker room, stays in the locker room. He just didn't fit well with the program. He's got all the talent in the world, but square pegs won't fit in round holes. I'm glad he's found somewhere he can do well.
  12. Hey now, I have the attention span of a 3rd grader deprived of his Ritalin and given pixy stix all day. Boobs interest me nearly always. Sometimes I just don't want to talk about sports. Ask anybody thats ever been in a fantasy sports league with me. After the first 6 weeks, I'm gone...
  13. Am I too late to throw my name in the hat a s a big time contributor to the previously mentioned 3rd hand boobage? Also, I have seen the Catfish boobs, but only after she fell on her face drunk at her apartment on her birthday, then sat on my lap. And that was it. I'd tell you if there was more.
  14. Personal attacks are not rare at all. I've been yelled at about my nose, my sideburns, my weight, my mother, my father's college career, my socks, the list goes on... We've heard people yell at JJ for his record at Memphis, yell at Coach Leonard for businesses he owned or ran outside of basketball. It gets pretty nasty, but its all expected when you're playing on the road.
  15. How about my back against the athletic department checkbook? Anybody? Anybody? Oh thats right, we all know how that one ends...
  16. I would say over 50 percent of what is said or yelled goes in one ear and out the other. When you've played for long enough to get to the college level, you hear about everything. I was playing against Duncanville my junior year in high school and one of their fans yelled during warmup "Hey Barnett! Nice nose! I f***ed your mom!" That said, yelling things from the bios, or any crazy stuff (Facebook schemes, sock puppets, offers of beer, I even had a guy yelling at my sideburns for half a game from 3 rows up) does tend to get your attention. I know we loved the Pit Crew shenanigans and looked forward to what they were going to come up with next. Atmosphere makes all the difference in the world when you're on the road, so for a team to have to come into the Pit and deal with heckling fans, especially good heckling fans, does make a difference. Its not that it will completely throw you off your game, but you may be a little bit on edge, and man do you notice it when you get back to the bench and you're losing.
  17. I hope he doesn't have to wear one of the big mechanical braces. I wasn't exactly the most mobile guy in the first place, and having to wear one for a season really screwed me up. He's had knee troubles in the past, hopefully this clears up some chance of it coming back again.
  18. Yes, this story actually did happen to me. They had also gotten Kendrick Davis and I think Calvin Watson too, but since I was the one they got to first, I got the brunt of the attack. As a player, you do hear the stuff that fans are yelling, and you ignore most of it, but sometimes its all you can do to not laugh or say something back. U-La-La, Denver, and USA were probably the best when it came to heckling. At Denver, there was never anybody there so you could hear anything that anybody said. One of the guys kept telling me "Barnett, you want a beer? I'll get you a beer, just nod your head, you don't even have to look over here. I'll put it in one of those Powerade cups so nobody will notice." They also got ahold of Micah Bracy pretty good. "Micah, Johnny isn't paying attention, you guys are getting blown out. Just walk over to the table and check in! You'll be in the game before he can do anything about it! It will be great!" The other 2 schools would print out everybody's bio from our UNT athletics webpage and yell stuff about our familes, our high schools, our high school coaches, etc. Having somebody yell that my dad was a scrub at Pepperdine and that I would never even be as good as him, that was pretty good.
  19. You can't take completely different players and expect them to be interchangeable. I'm not going to go through the list because its been done, but Bell is a pure point guard. White is a scorer and a young guard trying to learn how to run a D1 offense. Past those two, we have a lot of guys filling different roles. Early season is always a see-saw until you find what works for your team. Guys may mature into roles later or drop out of them, but I don't think 4 games in is a time to start questioning. Starting doesn't mean a whole lot right now.
  20. I think this is the definition of a trap game. Coming off a big win and looking ahead to other things. Their press probably did get to our guards a bit, but there was no movement at all out there whether it was the press break or trying to get anything going at all against their zone. . White didn't look bad but Willingham seems to look like a deer in the headlights. Ben Bell seemed out of it tonight too. Tristan Thompson was a great spark off the bench along with Kedrick Hogans (where did he come from?). I see our problems on the press as a result of 2 things: 1. Our bigs being lazy with the ball on inbounds plays - how many times did one of our 4's or 5's grab the ball and take it out only to make a quick throw in to a streaking UTA guard? Part of that is guards with a nose for the ball, but you have to be careful when you're inbounding under your own basket like that as those are often guaranteed points or free throws. 2. We did not play tough at all tonight - we have some guys who can be tough, but we were beaten by a team tonight that was not better than us, but wanted it more. I don't know any other way to explain 6'5 250(more like 265-270) pound centers beating our guys down the court for acrobatic catches and up-and-under layups? People will say, "this is the best thing that could happen to us, it will get our head out of the clouds." How many times does a team have to go through that? How many times in recent years have we played a game like this? Far too many for me.
  21. Hey now, its hard to get motivated for games like that. I'm starting what will be my 4th comeback shortly after Thanksgiving. I do have recollection of said "point god" She can be on my second string any day.
