  1. Arrested on felony charges. Multiple school suspensions. Suspended from games. Multiple school transfers. No thank you to Weatherford. http://www.tampabay.com/hometeam/blog/weatherford-wont-attend-usf/7830/
  2. If Riley had never been injured, he could have been one of the greatest QBs in UNT history. The reality is that his passes yesterday had the velocity of a pop fly. How can we face the next nine games with an offense that does two things: throws sideline passes and runs up the middle? If we can't throw downfield, the talents of Carey, Jackson and Stradford are completely negated and our opponents can just load up on Dunbar. Maybe Riley can get a cortisone shot to fix his arm or something? Otherwise, I say we throw Teegarden out there. He threw 19 touchdowns to 4 interceptions at the 5A level last year. At this point, what do we have to lose?
  3. I keep reading notes that Riley is getting more and more reps at quarterback. Canales is mentioning him among the candidates for the position. Did Todd Dodge switch his position last spring just to give his arm a rest and to get Thompson more reps to see if he can handle it? With all the pressure to win as a coach, and as a father who wants to give his son every chance to succeed at the highest level possible, is Todd Dodge really committed to playing Riley at wide receiver? I suspect there is a lot going on here behind the scenes. My bet is that Todd will give Riley every chance in the world to prove he can be our every-down quarterback.
  4. Uhhhhhhh..... How can you have a discussion of Riley and not mention the injuries. He is reaching late 70s/early 80s Bill Walton status.
  5. I don't drink Mean Green Kool-Aid. I may, however, drink Mean Green Tequila.
  6. No DD bashing here. DD was 2nd greatest coach in UNT history, in my opinion, behind Hayden Fry. Dodge did inherit a mess though, that is why I give him a pass on his first couple years. This year I figure he is starting new because only now is he in a position where he has the talent to win, but they just haven't learned how to close, the +/- on turnovers is killing them. He is a couple of coaching changes, a few tweaks here and there from delivering a bowl berth next season. To twist something Bill Parcells said: Hey, we've already suffered through all the pain. Are we going to quit right before Dodge shows us the baby?
  7. A big reason Todd Dodge lost tonight was because of a freshman quarterback's freshman mistakes. The great thing about freshman quarterbacks is that they don't stay freshman quarterbacks. Riley Dodge will learn what throws he can make and what throws he can't make. He will learn when to pull the ball down and run and when to throw the ball away. The Dodges deserve another season. They inherited a mess that was not an easy sell to recruits. The talent is now in place and Dodge finally has a product (stadium, facilities, etc..) that he can sell. Let's see what he can do with one more offseason. If he still has the stomach for the fight.
  8. Is he terrible or very very average. Because those are two very different things?
  9. If RV fires Dodge, it makes RV look bad. Then it looks like RV doesn't know how to hire a football coach. RV will not admit that mistake yet. RV is going to give Dodge another year, and Dodge deserves another year. Even if it is not showing up in the W-L column, significant progress is being made. This is still a very young team with a lot of young talent. If we don't contend for a bowl berth next season, then RV will fire Dodge.
  10. Agree with you on Points 1-3, Finch. It would be much easier to continue supporting Dodge (who I still believe in. Just wait til next year!) if he could adapt and add those type of things to the playbook. Why can't we line up under center when we need a few inches? Dodge is an intelligent person, why isn't he making those type of adjustments?
  11. Todd Dodge has everything in line to be a bowl team next season... if only, like in the Madden video game, he had the option to turn the injury settings off. Riley just can't stay healthy. It happens. Todd Dodge has micromanaged his son's athletic career brilliantly (holding him back a year in school so he is almost two years older than his classmates, putting him on the field as a true freshman then inventing an "injury" so that he qualifies for a medical redshirt and retains four years of college eligibility.) I love Riley when he is on the field. He has wonderful talent and intangibles (if not a strong arm). This team needs a quarterback that can be counted to be in the game in the fourth quarter. Everything else will be in place next season. Can Todd Dodge turn off his genetic drive to help his son succeed to do the right thing for his team and recruit a junior college quarterback with a track record of staying on the field to lead this team to the New Orleans Bowl next season? P.S. - Don't give me some Green KoolAid-inspired story about Baine or the Glen Rose kid stepping in for Riley next year. With the talent we will have in place, TD should be able to land a blue-chip junior college quarterback to lead this team.
  12. Nope. Riley is Felix Jones. Or atleast he gets hurt as much as him.
  13. Another former UNT beat writer, Richard Durrett, is also on ESPNDallas. ESPN is basically cherry-picking all the best sportswriters from newspapers all over the country. If you look at the ESPNDallas staff writers, almost all of them used to work at The Dallas Morning News. This could be the final nail in the coffin of the DMN as the sports section is one of the most profitable sections of the paper.
  14. UNT alum and former Mean Green beat writer Tim MacMahon will be covering the Cowboys and Mavericks for ESPNDallas.com. Congrats to Tim (who some crazy people on here believe was forced out of the DRC by RV several years ago, when in fact, he received a promotion to the DMN). With newspapers dying, ESPNDallas represents a huge opportunity and great career move for Tim. It will be great to see UNT represented on the World Wide Leader. Here is a link to Tim's first column. The more comments his columns generate the better. http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/columns/story?id=4505649
  15. That particular quote from Animal House will always draw someone offsides. How can you not have seen Animal House?
  16. Watching Boise State/Fresno and this Boise RB Jeremy Avery runs like he is the reincarnation of freshman Jamario. Looks just like him running the ball . Think Jamario could have bought a fake social security number and is taking a do-over on his college football career?
  17. Think a faster, quicker version of Ja'Mel Branch.
  18. Dude is walking away from a full college scholarship to join the army? Why not wait until you graduate then join up? The army's biggest selling point to recruits is "hey, we'll help you pay for your college education." Barrett already had that taken care of. Doesn't make any sense.
  19. We're doing pretty good compared vs. the Sun Belt. Poor vs. other Texas schools. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_co...l-tell-you.html

  21. Uh...actually people with strong immune systems are most at-risk. This virus kills via a cytokine storm (overreaction of the body's immune system) which explains its unusually severe nature and the concentrated age profile of its victims. The strong immune systems of young adults ravage the body, whereas the weaker immune systems of children and middle-aged adults cause fewer deaths. My family is taking this flu VERY seriously.
  22. If you are talented, work hard and succeed you get PAID. Nothing could be more fair than that. I wish UNT could pay her more.
  23. None of this would have happened if drugs were legal.
  24. Hey Lonnie, Has Bill Parcells ever considered you for one of his NFL coaching staffs? ... didn't think so. Maybe, just maybe, Todd Dodge knows a little bit more about coaching football than you.
