  1. This. I was a student at Granbury High School when Leta Andrews (women's BB head coach) got in trouble for something similar. A star basketball player moved to Granbury to stay with a 'relative' while some family stuff got worked out at home or something. She played the season, but when the UIL started asking questions, things got remarkably better at home and she went back to enjoy her senior year with her friends.
  2. The name of the song is Tubthumping, off the album of the same name.
  3. Well, his height is indisputable, especially relative to me. And beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I win.
  4. untgirl04 Height: 5'1" unless you let me wear heels Age: 27 40: Still several years away Shirt Size: Small Entering her rookie season, untgirl04 hopes to take the tall world by storm. Her skills include dodging under arms and crawling through legs. She's a natural for the 'hidden tailback' play. But sorry guys, this Heisman candidate gal is already taken by the tall (and athletically handsome) forevereagle.
  5. I don't think so. Jackson also forced out Dr. Pohl. As convenient as it would be to call Jackson a sexist jerk, I think he's an equal-opportunity jerk. I think you're on to something about the situation, but rather than it being a specific person, I think it was just that he doesn't like anyone opposing him on anything. I also think he is somewhat jealous of the support the past two presidents have enjoyed (although Pohl wasn't nearly as popular with the faculty as Bataille).
  6. Also props to all the students and fans who were able to make the drive for the game. We watched the coverage on ESPN2 and were very impressed by the crowd size and sea of green. I also have to admit that I love those black and green jerseys the boys were wearing last night. They looked really sharp!
  7. I'm taking the over at 50. But they have to be in his false, overly accented "Texas" accent.
  8. No, the announcers were too busy talking about tonight's Bama/tU game to focus on the game in front of them.
  9. I agree. I thought it was awesome.
  10. First, many schools hold up the school sign during the Alma Mater - this is not unique to UNT nor many other universities around the country. Second, for the halftime shows, the Green Brigade played two shows featuring the music from The Whiz and Wicked (I think there might have been another one in there), and for the Halloween show, they played "Thriller," complete with the dance. The year before, they had a halftime show featuring the music from popular video games (Mario Brothers, Legend of Zelda, etc). That was one show I wish they'd done more than once.
  11. Oh there were plenty of catcalls to the players - I sat in the front, behind the FIU bench and next to the Pit Crew. They got the bird from a player eventually, but the problem was that the players they were harassing were the ones on the bench. Either way, I have to give props to the Pit Crew for creative signs.
  12. Probably not such a large disparity when the qualifications state they are looking for someone with a Masters degree or someone seeking one. When I was working on my Masters, we had to complete an internship as a graduation requirement. Paid or not, you'll take the internship if you want to graduate.
  13. I disagree. As you stated earlier, we played a much lighter schedule this year, and were still only one win better than the previous year, and only matched Dodge's first year in wins. Would we even have had two wins this season playing last year's schedule? The only noticeable improvement I've seen is in penalties. Overall, penalties, especially personal fouls, are down. Army was a pretty clean game, penalty-wise. My only request for improvement in that area would be that when a player does get a personal foul (especially for stupid stuff, like taunting or fighting), the coaches pull him off and let him ride the pine for a few plays. I think immediate consequences for stupidity are more effective than waiting a day or two. But I digress.... Back to my main point - I'm not so sure we could have played last year's schedule this year and won two games. We'll never know, but to say that because we had a 100% increase in wins this season over last means we've made improvement is short-sighted.
  14. Wait, so you're saying that Knott didn't run out onto the field all by himself, bringing the field goal unit with him? Shocking! So I guess if Knott didn't send himself onto the field, someone else told him to do it. I don't wonder why we lost all those games this year. We've had three years under this regime with a revolving door of players and assistant coaches. The only constant is Dodge. It begins and ends with him. His choices, his players. And I think he's man enough to admit that. You can't tell me it's that hard to find a kicker. There's no gender rule in football and we have a heck of a girl's soccer team. In a powderpuff game played at Fouts while I was in school, I saw a non-scholarship soccer fan kick a 30-yard field goal with plenty of height and leg. If she can do it, surely at least one more person in this 36,000 member student body is capable. Bottom line: Dodge chose not to find someone else to kick. THIS TEAM SHOULD HAVE BEEN 8-4 IF WE HAD BETTER CLOCK MANAGEMENT, PLAYCALLING, AND DECISION-MAKING.
  15. What's with the personal vendetta against Knott? No, he was not a stellar kicker, but I seriously doubt he purposefully sabotaged his collegiate career to ensure he maintained the starting kicker job just to keep North Texas football in the cellar. Also, maybe with some good coaching he could have been better. Atterberry started out the year pretty strong, but got progressively worse. And it's the coaches' responsibility to recruit players. Knott just tried to do what he was put on the field to do. Execution was poor, but so was the coaching. We lost the MTSU, Army, FIU, etc games not because of horrible kicking, but because of horrible tackling, horrible decision making (both on the field and on the sidelines - especially in the red zone), and horrible play calling.
  16. Or if we'd scored on at least one of those 5 turnovers we had inside the 20, we would have won.... Just sayin'
  17. Considering that our defense gave up an average of what, 45 points per game last year, I'd say there's still some improvement on defense. It's not where we'd like it to be by a long shot, but it's still better.
  18. In years past they did give away free tickets to the football game for every attendee of the NT Preview. I worked NT Preview for several years, so I know this for a fact. Additionally, when I attended NT Preview, they offered free tickets. Sadly, the team wasn't any better then than they are now, so my parents and I opted not to take advantage of the offer. I remember driving away from campus and looking into the mostly empty seats on the student side. Well, at least attendance is a bit better....
  19. I disagree with you, to a point, about whether or not the cell phone idea is stupid. I think the spirit of the law (I'm basing this theory off the fact that there are only 70 minutes paid for each month) is to assist those without permanent addresses in finding a job. It may have been a while since you applied for a job, but at least at my company, all candidates get a phone screening before they get called in for an interview. Pay phones are pretty scarce nowadays, and even if they weren't, it wouldn't look too good to be doing an interview in a noisy area, or where the operator butts in every 15 minutes and asks you to deposit another quarter. And consider the scenario where this person actually does have a job that just pays poorly. Many employers have rules against accepting personal calls at work, and if you're on welfare, you shouldn't be paying for extraneous services like cell phones (or maybe even home phones). And if you think homeless people are just lazy, consider that 44% of homeless people have jobs. (Read the research behind this here.) Now, I'm not in support of a welfare state, nor do I really like welfare in general (I think community organizations should take a greater role in providing for those in need). However, the US made its welfare bed well before I was born, and if we're going to be helping people out, at least this is a somewhat thoughtful and creative way to assist people. I'm not arguing that some people don't abuse the system, but overall, I think the spirit of this law was in the right place and that it's misguided, but not stupid.
  20. I think that's an unfair characterization. The fact is, WK doesn't exactly have a killer defense. Not to diminish what Riley did (because he made better decisions today and didn't have any turnovers), but he's also going to have to prove himself against better competition. Given his performance in other games this season against better opponents, we can see that he is still a very young player who makes a lot of mistakes. Maybe the light bulb is finally clicking on in there and he's starting to make better decisions, but all this game did was give us a glimpse of what his raw talent can be. While I think that's commendable and gives me a glimmer of hope for the rest of the season and for the years to come, I also don't think it's being unduly negative to still have reservations regarding Riley's future impact.
  21. I noticed the lack of coach involvement too. However, I am hoping it was one of those 'wait until we get home' moments and Lott's inappropriate actions will be addressed by the coaches in practice all week. Of course, had I been a coach, he would have sat the pine for at least a few plays so he could calm himself down.
  22. The only mistakes I consider unforgivable are the stupid unsportsmanlike conduct calls. They seem to come at most inopportune moments (not that there's ever a good moment for one), and those are absolutely things that can be helped. Everyone complained about the number of unsportsmanlike conduct calls against our players while Dickey was coach, and I think that same standard should be applied to Dodge. However, I have confidence that Dodge and Deloach will address these issues. I think we nip those issues in the bud and there's no reason we can't be competitive in or even win some games this year.
  23. I watched the press conference after the start of the game delay. The announcers were saying something about that rule being changed this year or last year to give the Commisioner some flexibility when it comes to the World Series. I am hardly a fan of Selig's, but I don't disagree with his decision. Although in the press conference he made it sound like it was all his staff members' ideas to play the game in the first place (despite the weather forecast being relatively benign at the time), and that he only agreed 'with some trepidation.' Morose old geezer, he is.
