  1. One MGC donation, in the specified amount. So you'll give your minimum $125 donation, and then buy your two seats for $300 ($150 x 2). If you donate $250, that entitles you to purchase up to 4 seats in the black section.
  2. There were two residence halls built with private money: Santa Fe and Mozart Square. Those two buildings were taken over by Housing entirely in 2002 or 2003 (can't quite remember which). Since that time, the university has build the following residence halls: Victory Hall, Traditions Hall, Legends Hall, and Honors Hall. There have been plans for a twin of Victory Hall over by the new stadium, but the plan as I have seen it was always to build it after the AC and other things were completed on the Eagle Point property. So to say that "many" of the halls were built with private money is incorrect. Of the 12 current residence halls, only two (16.6%) were not build by the university initially. That also doesn't take into account Kendall Hall (torn down now) or any of the other builds that were originally residence halls but were repurposed for education. And the two halls originally built by private money have been in full control of the university for nearly 10 years.
  3. You're being too kind with the Glee reference. But I'm not. During one of our free throw attempts, one of the guys asked if they should sing the Glee or Lady Gaga version of a song.... It was really sad.
  4. Seriously? So even then, his family was profiting from his play in college. There's got to be some sort of penalty somewhere. Even if they don't punish the kid, they should charge his father with extortion, and at the VERY least impose something on the school.
  5. The difference is that McCarney's buddies are already coaching in college. BCS conferences even.
  6. I don't recall hearing Nathan's name being called among the seniors on Saturday. I'm wondering if he's pursuing the red shirt.
  7. I'll second the "first and ten" cheer. From my spot in the stands, it sounds a bit like "one potato, two potato, three potato four." The fanbase doesn't need to be cheering throughout the entire game. There are a few rules for cheering at football games, and while the cheerleaders have improved on this significantly in the past few years, these are some guidelines that will hopefully help: 1. Don't cheer when a player is down. Pay attention (if you all don't want to watch, at least have a spotter who is) to the game and NEVER cheer when anyone is down on the field. It's okay to have silence at this point. In fact, it's appropriate. 2. Don't do the "first and ten" cheer because the whole crowd does the "Mean Green First Down" cheer with the announcer. We don't need something else after it. As others have said, save the majority of the cheers for when we are on defense or when we've just made a big play. 3. Don't try to get the stands really loud when we're at a critical down on offense. They need to be able to hear the plays getting called in. Again, save it for defense.
  8. How does he motivate the team and fans? Is he a "prove all your nay-sayers wrong" kind of guy, or a guy who motivates by positive reinforcement? What kinds of things does he do to motivate the fan base and generate interest for the school? When he started at ISU, what was the average number of season tickets sold? When he left, what was the average number of season tickets sold?
  9. It has nothing to do with RV and everything to do with Canales and the new HC at that point. We've gone back and forth on this for weeks now, so I'm going to spell it out one last time - please pay attention. 1. The new HC chooses the staff. Period. If he doesn't, then there's no point in having a head coach. 2. Canales wants to be a HC somewhere NEXT YEAR. Which means that if he's not at that press conference next week, he's going to be hitting the pavement with his resume and finding himself a head coaching job. Given the demonstration he just gave for the last 5 games, I don't think he'll have too much trouble finding something, somewhere. 3. The new HC chooses the staff. 4. It's McCarney, not McCauley. Now, can we PLEASE stop posting these inane threads?
  10. I really don't think so. Canales believes (and he's convinced me of this as well) that he is a qualified head coach for next season. And with all the positions opening up, including two in the Sun Belt, I think that it's possible Canales gets the HC job somewhere next season. As much as I would prefer to see him coaching here rather than at a conference school, I still can't blame him if he leaves. Yes, he may love the program, but it's still his career we're talking about. I think it might be time for Deloach to move on. If he doesn't recruit outside the athletic offices, then he needs to go elsewhere so that we can find someone who will go out there and get us a defense. There were an awful lot of seniors out there today, and we're going to need to do some serious reloading to even be competitive next year. And consider that the defense just gave up 49 points in two consecutive games...
  11. Not excited about anyone who has a "circle the wagons" mentality. I like Chico's positive attitude.
  12. I know, but I couldn't resist. If you want a college reference, Diet Coke boy got a lot of press. I think it depends on how interesting the actual game is on whether the commentators start talking about the future plans of staff members.
  13. That depends on where Dave Campo is standing at the moment.
  14. I disagree. I was at the game, and sitting next to the Pit Crew. I thought the emotion of running onto the court was less about the fact that it was Texas Tech (although that was probably a factor), and more about the emotion from an absolutely incredible game last night. The team played extremely hard, and even when they fell behind refused to give up. And the OT was on a whole different level. I think the fans were just genuinely excited for the team and for JJ and the effort they gave.
  15. That's it? Not much a scoop. You could have read the board any time within the last week and gathered that information.
  16. Just curious, but how do you KNOW that people, sponsors, donors, and recruits would come to North Texas with Mike Leach? I don't doubt that there will be some curious football fans who would be interested in attending a game or two just to see what's going on, but if we don't win immediately, I doubt they'll continue coming to games just for Leach. Leach would also have to put together a new staff, so I don't see how that's any different than Canales or any other current coordinator coming in. For the sake of argument, can we say that Frank Solich is a relatively well known name? Maybe he's not Mike Leach around here, but I'll bet people up in the Midwest know who he is. When he was fired from Nebraska and subsequently hired at Ohio, did the sponsors, donors, and recruits suddenly spike?
  17. I wanted to go into Linguistics, but Dr. Sims, the department head for the Technical Writing program convinced me that with my undergrad in Biology, I would be a natural fit in Technical Writing. I have to admit, she was right. I got my first job by sitting next to a guy I barely knew from my hometown (but I knew his mother well from school) during a church service. He was also a graduate from UNT and had heard from his mother that I was attending. He was moving into the Marketing department, and his previous boss was looking to fill the position quickly. A week later, after sending him my resume, I got a call from his boss offering me the job. It's not always just who you know, but more importantly, the follow through that leads to success.
  18. Just as a side note, there are two very famous bridal marches - one by Wagner and one by Mendelssohn. Both are very common at weddings. And if Francis Ford Coppola has to apologize, so too should Looney Tunes. That rendition of 'Kill the Wabbit' is still one of my favorites.
  19. Are you familiar with Wagner? Regardless, I'm just speculating with absolutely no fact to back up my theory. Ironically, he did write a rather famous bridal march...
  20. I haven't heard the fanfare, but pulling from a Wagner opera is probably the reason it got removed. While Wagner wrote some beautiful music, his views and the motives behind his music are not exactly the kinds of things we want our university associated with.
  21. Grabbed your what? Other than that, I agree. That was a different North Texas team out there. And Mrs. Canales is a firecracker. I love her enthusiasm and support.
  22. Zack Richardson is El DeBarge (hopefully this works)
  23. I disagree, IF Canales wins 3 or 4 more games this season and gets close to or beats Kansas State. If he can put that many wins on the board in a season that has been fraught with injuries and disappointing losses, that will energize the fan base quite a bit. If he's able to do that, he will have made a name for himself, and I think UNT would be stupid for not seriously considering him. Granted, this is a big IF, and I'm not ready to crown Canales the head coach just yet. But, I think all this talk about a 'name' coach being necessary is really limiting. We just need a coach who WINS. I don't care if his name is John Doe as long as he can motivate this team to win.
  24. Honestly, I've mentioned Leavitt to several non-NT football fans and their reaction is always "who?" Once you mention South Florida they know who you're talking about, but my point is that Leavitt is not necessarily a name coach who will boost ticket sales with his name. But whomever you bring in, if they win a couple of games, will get butts in seats.
