  1. Noble Nwachukwu - SDE, 6'3", 240 lbs, Wylie HS, TX - interested in New Mexico and North Texas Offers from New Mexico and North Texas
  2. Nope, we're on it! We'll be updating the recruiting blogs with 2012 recruit info in the the near future. I'd like to add that we also have two interested prospects that are on ESPN's Top 150 watch list: Halapouliva Vaitai - OT, 6'5", 265 lbs., Haltom HS, TX Michael Wilson - OT, 6'6", 253 lbs., Aledo HS, TX
  3. Western Kentucky!! (Rivals doesn't show a North Texas offer.)
  4. Wow, UTSA got Tevin Williams from Euless Trinity? I wish we could have stolen him too.
  5. Greater Houston Area Top 100 (Houston Chronicle)
  6. Kerry Swarn Scouts profile Other information on Swarn can be found here and here. Thanks to OT for the tip.
  7. Just to clarify, Julian Herron didn't willingly leave SMU. He was forced out when June Jones cleaned house.
  8. Yes, I noticed a trend starting last year. Their new coach, Willie Taggart (hired last season from Stanford) isn't afraid to go after the top talent. It would appear that Taggart extends offers to just about every player they contact. At one point last year, I seem to recall Western Kentucky had extended somewhere around 200 scholarship offers and, as of today, they have 146 offers out for the 2011 class. Compared that to our 71 for 2011. Now, obviously, they aren't going to sign even 1/4 of those but, at least, they are trying. They just missed on a couple of 4 stars last year.
  9. Cameron Brown - Rivals, ESPN/Scouts, Inc. WR, 6'2", 195, 4.59 40, Liberty HS, Frisco, TX - interested in Arizona, Houston, Iowa, Kansas State, Louisiana-Monroe, North Texas, Tulsa, UTEP, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky Rivals ratings - 3 stars/5.5 ESPN/Scouts Inc - 2 stars/75. Brown was committed to Minnesota but is back on the market after Tim Brewster's firing. As of today, his only known offer is from Western Kentucky
  10. Kerry Swarn 2010 highlight video (#6): Lloyd Carrington 2010 highlight video (#4): I'd like to get both of these kids. However, I just learned that Carrington was reported on January 7, 2011, to have narrowed his choices to four teams (Cal, Nevada, Tulsa, and Utah), with Utah leading. Of course, that doesn't mean we don't still have a chance, especially if we can land Swarn.
  11. From the MWC board: I'm sure that was tongue-in-cheek comment but I think it's time to get a restraining order against Karl Benson and the WeAC.
  12. We may have an outside shot at getting this kid to stay closer to home. From what I understand, he's recently changed his verbal commitment to Arizona (made in June) from "solid" to "soft." Check the DB prospect blog to see another Lincoln HS DB, with a North Texas offer, that may influence Swarn's decision. Kerry Swarn - Rivals, Scout, ESPN - S, 6'2", 190 lbs, 4.6 40, Lincoln HS, Dallas, TX - interested in Arizona, Baylor, Colorado State, East Carolina, Iowa State, North Texas, Vanderbilt and West Virginia Rivals ratings - 3 stars/5.6 rating ESPN/Scouts Inc. rating - 3 stars/75 rating Scout ratings - 2 stars/#132 ranked Safety in the nation Offers from Arizona, Baylor, East Carolina, Iowa and North Texas. Was a solid verbal to Arizona but has switched his commitment to a soft verbal. Committed to Arizona - 6/10/10
  13. Dorman committed to Colorado yesterday, 1/14.
  14. I guess that depends on the perspective. I'm sure TSU and UTSA are ecstatic with the news, but it's still a crap conference and should be easily considered the worst FBS football conference. The schools who have been there for a while (La Tech, USU, Idaho and NMSU) would be gone tomorrow if any other FBS conference extended an invite. You could probably say the same for any of the football schools, including TSU and UTSA. No one really desires to be in the WAC long term. Still, I could see one team benefiting from the weak WAC (which I'll go ahead and nickname the WeAC) with a winning record, year after year, simply because they'll play a WeAC schedule.
  15. It looks like that clause already takes that possibility into consideration. With the current membership, they have eight teams, seven of which play football. The clause requires only seven teams to remain a FBS conference, provided that 6 of those teams play football. If USU bolts for MWC, they would still meet the minimum criteria.
  16. Good luck to Dodge and good luck to Pitt. After 3+ years with the well respected QB guru, I've never seen so much uncertainty for UNT at the QB position. With Daniel, McElroy, Padron and Piland all having started for FBS bowl teams, clearly, someone at SLC was capable of recognizing and developing QB talent...
  17. I agree with that. I agree with this too, as long as it's an athletic "dual-threat" QB. I don't see a kid like Dorman having enough speed to play WR or DB, TE maybe.
  18. I think that's an understatement. Unlike McNulty, his label of pro-style QB seems to be right on target. Fortunately, he appears to have a quick release and a cannon for an arm.
  19. It's true we definitely have needs at other positions, but with our current QB situation and lack of experience and depth at the position, I wouldn't be surprised if we sign another one, or even two QBs. Of course, it will be largely dependent on the quality of the prospect. I'd love to get Stevie Weatherford, but Dorman and McNulty are also intriguing. At least one of the HS kids would be redshirted. I wouldn't count on Tune getting a medical redshirt. Thompson has started all of one game at QB and, while Baine filled in admirably last year, I'm not convinced he's a full-time starter. Teegarden wasn't even recruited to play QB. I think if we learned anything from last year, it's that we should have three QBs that are legitimately capable of starting at any given time.
  20. Donovonn Young - RB, 5'11", 215 lbs, Katy HS, TX - interested in Illinois, McNeese State, Memphis, North Texas, Oklahoma State and UTEP Offers from Illinois, McNeese State and North Texas Rivals ratings - 3 stars/5.5 rating Scheduled to visit UNT on 1/14 and Illinois on 1/21 Committed to Illinois - 1/7 Maybe he'll still make his visit to Denton next week and then get caught in major snow storm in Illinois the following week?
  21. Yes, good find jtm. I was on smoaky.com just this morning and didn't find that nugget. Vito owes you a beer for enabling him to scoop Phillips!
  22. I agree he's flying under the radar, but I'm not sure why. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because he only had one year to showcase his QB skills and didn't compile stellar passing stats. Still, he replaced a 2009 Rivals top 250 player in A.J. Derby and the team didn't seem to miss a beat. He's also very athletic, having played CB in 2009 as well as basketball and track. Oh, and he was also the punter. In fact, FWIW he was named both player of the year and punter of the year in Mississippi Division of the MVC. BTW, he is listed on Scout - I just didn't include that profile in the original post because it doesn't contain much info. Here's a blurb from the Iowa City Press-Citizen blog on his basketball team: I'm not sure what he led the state in - surely not points or rebounds? Now, obviously earning accolades in Iowa carry far less weight that they would in a state like Texas, California or Florida, but I am interested.
  23. Stevie Dorman- pro-style QB, 6'4", 215 lbs, 4.8 40, Somerset HS, TX - interested in UNLV, BYU and North Texas ESPN/Scouts Inc rating - 2 stars/72 No reported offers Played for Division 3-A, Somerset, and led to them a 10-3 record and third round of the state playoffs. Passed for 2,633 with 31 TDs and 8 INTs and rushed for an additional 5 TDs and 143 yards (I think he got about half of those on the second highlight in the video below). His career HS passing total of 8,619 yards surpassed his more famous uncles - former NFL quarterbacks Ty and Koy Detmer - Ty Detmer had 8,006 yards at Southwest High, while Koy Detmer threw for 8,221 at Mission High. Interesting footnote, his top WR, Jacob Hillyer (#18 in the video below) just committed to Iowa on 12/19.
