  1. Hard one. Johnny Quinn and Marcus Camper. A great memory...... http://www.unt.edu/northtexan/archives/s02/alumninews.htm "Lasting Memory I’m counting the days until the 2002 North Texas game against Texas. I will always remember the time we played Texas in 1988. I heard an estimate that there were 15,000 North Texas fans at that game in Austin, spurred by the season-opening road victory over Texas Tech. We were in Division I-AA at the time and ranked No. 1 in that division. As I walked into the stadium, a news team was covering the game from the north end zone, in front of the 10-foot-high University of Texas seal mounted on the wrought-iron gate that surrounds the stadium. The reporter was pointing to the seal, painted green by some North Texas prankster. Scott Davis had 426 yards of total offense in the game, throwing to Marcus Camper for 224 yards, as North Texas — yes, North Texas — led 21-14 going into the fourth quarter. Alas, North Texas would not win that game, despite scoring three more points, as Texas scored twice in the fourth. Replays showed neither touchdown should have counted. One touchdown pass was caught completely out of bounds, and the receiver never actually caught the other touchdown. It went right through his hands! The normally rowdy Texas fans knew they had witnessed a crime. Post-game taunting was minimal, as no one was proud of this game. News accounts in Austin and Dallas agreed. And for the rest of the semester, my rear windshield said, in white shoe polish: North Texas 24, Texas 14, Refs 13. The 2002-03 UT Longhorns will be ranked in the top five Aug. 31 when UNT plays them. But I like our chances. Another Scott (Hall) will be starting at QB. See you in Austin! —Scott Campbell (’82), who attended UT before graduating from North Texas"
  2. Almost every home game since 1989. Missing on average one per year.
  3. Can't make a pick. I don't want to bring on any bad Mojo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Don't you put that evil on me Ricky Bobby, don't you put that on us" ;-)
  4. Thanks for the heads up. I have set my Beyond TV to record both time slots. Just in case my kids had Veggie Tales set to record at the same time;-) Can't be too careful.
  5. My point was that an Indian as a mascot is not relegious. If, however, you are having your mascot do some kind of sacred dance than that is a different story all together and that action should be addressed, but not the mascot itself.
  6. Since when is the "Indian" mascot (as with ASU) religious? maybe I missed something in my quick scanning of the post.
  7. Since I am Native American I will answer your question. "No" I am not offended at all by the use "Indian" as a mascot. This entire PC crap has driven me nuts. I always thought of it as a complement to have the use of Indian or other similar names as a mascot. The only one that doesn't bother me, but I can understand would be "Savages". Other than that I am good. Even if I were offended............As my father once told me "you don't have the right to not be offended". There is a rumor that the Eagle is offended and that UNT will be changing there name to the Albino Squirrels;-) God help us.
  8. I just noticed that the last 5 years SMU's record is 17-41. Wow.... I didn't know it was that bad. So I can now see why they are excited about that 6-6 record last year.
  9. Don't feel bad they show Wake Forest in that list as well. I have to take back my post about Wake Forest as stated above. I forgot they had a good season last year unlike SMU. I know SMU was happy with it, and I guess they should be since they have been struggling for years now. 6-6 is good when you have had below .500 seasons for so long;-)
  10. I just read the list. Is this a link to a joke web site? New Mexico State Univ. (4 win season, and 2 of the wins were vs. 1AA with 3 wins or less) SMU Troy Marshal This can't be real. Several of those teams had a .500 record or less last year. Eventhough SJSU, Houston, Navy had better than expected years, but hard for me to understand. But then again. I am no expert like the guys who wrote the article;-)
  11. Thanks for the info, and you guys can ignore my post. I was just concerned since we are having trouble with attendenace that an increase in prices do not usually help to increase the flood of people to the gates. However, winning will negate any price increase;-). I was just using myself as an example since it will affect me. Didn't think a simple post on attendance concerns would get people upset at this fan. Later guys.
  12. It was already hard to come up with the $16 per game. Even went with the endzone the last 2 game last year. Like to take the entire family when I can, and it can add up. But like I said I hope it doesn't affect things, and I am glad that $20 per game is easy money for some. BTW....Thanks for poking at my lack of income;-)
  13. I have not seen any number, but because of the price increase I will have to go to a few select games this year instead of all of 'em. I hope I am the only one that looks at it this way. I would hate to see attendance suffer due to ticket pricing.
  14. LaTech...... 3 of the 4 losses are to top 25 teams, and the other loss is to Texas A&M. I think everyone would have guessed they would be 1-4 at this point in the season.
  15. Just wanted to say that I usually have good seats, but the guy I went with decided he wanted to go cheap. With that said this put me with an OK view of the parking lot looking toward the tailgaters. I was shocked to see that it was standing room only out in the parking lot while the game was about 5 min. into the second quarter. If those guys could pry themselves away from their beverages for a few hours that place would have been a sell out. I am dissapointed that the tailgaters are there not to support the team and UNT, but just to party. How about do both. (I know some are faithfull fans). My 2 cents that is worth about 1.
  16. Wow......Negativity when we win or if we lose...sad. I for one will enjoy the fact that we got a win. We actually won a close one, and the I enjoyed every minute of our record tying 7 OTs.
  17. Some say co-champs, but UNT won the head to head. Back in my day the winner of the head to head was the CHAMP. But we have to make everyone feel good these days.
  18. I don't think any of these coaches are worth looking at. As far as I know UNT does not pay its players;-) Sorry ...could not resist. Barry Switzer joke..... Question: "How come Barry Switzer had a harder time as a Dallas Cowboys coach than he did as an OU coach?" Answer: "In Dallas he had to work with a salery cap"
  19. Why did you have to send me to youtube? I found one of the 1988 UNT vs. UT bad calls on replay.
  20. Just logged onto my Snapstream.net account, and it is showing that the game will be on Ch. 52 KFWD. Ch. 6 on Charter.
  21. ESPN regional is usually shown on ch. 52, that would be ch. 6 on Charter cable. Have not confermed that the game is on that channel, but they usually have the ESPN regional stuff.
  22. Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on the defense "not being much better." Yes the numbers might not show it, but I have watched or listened to every game, and the defense is so much better than last year it is unbelievable. Keep in mind that the Offense is not giving them much of a break thus warping the numbers a little. Yes the offense has not looked good, but things looked up....way up yesterday. Dickey kept a QB in all game, and also Thomas got his yards against one of the better run defenses. 175 yards total rushing for UNT 76 Yards for Penn State 81 for NC State We went from 89 yards of total offense to 287 total yards (while holding Akron to 278). Also Arkansas St. (one of the Sunbelt front runners) was beat by SMU 55-9. I like our chances.
  23. Would love to see it, but aint going to happen. OU - As many as they want MTSU - 3 Had to edit my post.... I loved last week where OU got a taste of their own med.
