  1. At North Texas, you can start with the loss of men's soccer and men's tennis. At different schools it's different sports. Instead of creating more opportunities for women, all most schools did to balance was eliminate men's sports.
  2. Charity at the expense of others.
  3. ??? Sure, I'd love a baseball team, but it's not as easy as just add it. More football wins = more donors = more $$ = more sports. By the way, the top 5 sports dropped by colleges in the past 15 years are men's soccer, men's gymnastics, men's wrestling, men's volleyball, and men's baseball. Do you see a trend? Thanks, Title IX!
  4. - Scrappy pre-uniform wearing U. of Miami cap - Dr. Pohl and WW talking courtside before game; WW seen begging Pohl to stay in SBC? - three small kids in sold-out courtside seats, wearing BU shirts - 50+ football players appear for halftime ceremony, 40+ leave soon after - 100+ students in student section, 6 fans in next reserved section - RV and Georgio missing from action
  5. The doom & gloom whiner's board? There are maybe 4 total posters over there, most all banished from here. They hate everything, even themselves.
  6. i don't know, a skinny 6-8, 215 pound guy averaging only 10 points is going to be our future post? maybe he'll grow into his frame and up the average his senior year. where are all the 6-11, 250 pound centers?
  7. Sounds like a good player, but what we really need is a couple 6-10 or 6-11 tall, inside guys. We lack serious inside bodies and rebounders; guards we have.
  8. I hear what you're saying. We want substance in posts when we click to read and some posters just can't perform. Unfortunately there are more than just GG, need I name names? Some try to entertain, some extoll facts, some just ramble, and some, well, some just want to be seen......on the internet. I fall into the same trap as you, thinking with certain posters, that this will be a meaningful post, only to be tricked again. I too have sworn off certain ones. <_<
  9. Bill Self was just today named head coach at Kansas. Coach Jank (former UNT head coach) was named a Illinois assistant last November. Could he be going to KU too? Tim Jankovich bio
  10. It would be nice to add some transfers with college experience.
  11. Names?, what names? All we said was that the military was preserving your right to burn your draft card. But come to think of it, I do have a few names now.
  12. or what you don't believe in? The brave troops who do your fighting for you, defend your country, so you can hide and have your right to burn your card.
  13. I think it's a bad rumor until someone confirms this or I hear RV say it. While I expect RV will leave someday for a bigger program, UNT has a lot of positive things happening right now with football and the new Athletic Center to begin. I can't think he would want to leave unless he got an offer too good to turn down. I hope this isn't true.
  14. Mean Green receiver Marshall arrested 01/26/2003 By Megan Middleton / Staff Writer George L. Marshall, who played wide receiver for the University of North Texas football team for the last four seasons, was arrested and placed in Denton County jail Friday afternoon on a Class B misdemeanor charge of theft. Mr. Marshall, a senior at the university, was released later Friday evening on $500 bail. Mr. Marshall said Saturday night that he did not want to comment on the incident. According to a University of North Texas police report, in September 2002, a vehicle in a parking lot on Welch Street was burglarized and a UNT "D" faculty and staff hanging parking permit was stolen from it. The value of the hangtag was listed at $105. In December, Mr. Marshall’s vehicle was parked illegally and when a parking attendant was in the process of issuing a parking citation, the parking decal number came back as stolen, said UNT police Lt. Jim Coffey. "He was using a stolen permit," Lt. Coffey said. "A warrant was obtained in January for him as a result of the original offense report." Lt. Coffey said that it is not clear whether Mr. Marshall had any involvement in the original burglary of the vehicle. "The original offense was reported as burglary," he said. "All we are able to prove at this point is that George was using a stolen permit. We don’t know if he committed the original offense or not." Rick Villarreal, athletics director at UNT, said the athletics department was made aware of the situation and encouraged Mr. Marshall to go to the police. "I’m disappointed in this matter, but I’ve talked to George about it, and I feel he’s prepared to handle it in the proper manner," Mr. Villarreal said.
  15. Johnson enrolls at North Texas LSU transfer looks impressive at Mean Green practice 01/22/2003 By Tim MacMahon / Staff Writer Center/power forward Shawnson Johnson enrolled at North Texas on Tuesday morning, officially completing his transfer from Louisiana State. Shawnson Johnson The 6-9, 242-pound Johnson’s performance during Tuesday afternoon’s practice showed why UNT coach Johnny Jones is willing to take a risk on a player who quit the LSU team at halftime of a Dec. 3 game and has only one season of eligibility remaining. Johnson, who will not become eligible until the end of the fall 2003 semester, was dominant during his first practice at UNT. He scored almost at will, mostly on dunks and moves around the basket. He blocked several shots, some in spectacular fashion. And he ran the floor and passed the ball like a guard. "I never got a chance to do some of those kind of things at LSU," Johnson said. "Now I’m at a place where I feel comfortable." Added Jones: "As soon as he becomes eligible, he will have an immediate impact on our program. Just judging from the things he was able to do in practice today, he’ll bring some things that we don’t have on a consistent basis in terms of an aggressive shot blocker and powerful low-post scorer." Johnson, who was considered one of the 10 best junior-college players in the nation by recruiting analysts when he signed with LSU in the spring of 2001, sat out his first season in Baton Rogue because of academic issues. He played three games for the Tigers this season — averaging 5.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 17.7 minutes per game — before quitting the team because of a lack of playing time. Johnson left the team after not playing in the first half of a win over Delaware State on Dec. 3. "By the time I got there, he had changed clothes," LSU coach John Brady said in the Dec. 5 edition of the The Advocate in Baton Rogue, La. "All we did was tell him, ‘You’re making the wrong choice, and this isn’t the way to handle your problems.’ He knew when he left." Said Johnson of his departure from LSU: "The past is behind me now. Things happen for a reason. Maybe it was the best thing to do. Coach Brady was a good coach, but we just weren’t on the same page." Jones, a point guard at LSU from 1980-84 and assistant coach there from 1984-97, said he would not have asked Johnson to join the Mean Green if he thought the player would present disciplinary problems. "After speaking with him and some people that are close with him and people that I confide in in Baton Rogue, I’m not overly concerned about that," Jones said. "Obviously, I would have like for that situation to be handled better. He was leaving the team, and it’s just unfortunate the way that he left. He’s apologized for that and admitted that he was wrong. Now he’s moved on." Johnson said he is just happy to be at a school where he will get consistent playing time. He added that he hopes to help put the North Texas basketball program on the map and draw attention from NBA scouts in the process. "This is my last go-round," Johnson said. "I’ve got to make the best of it."
  16. I want more volume from the pep band. Maybe it's the SuperPit's accoustics, or lack of, but Smu's pep band seemed much louder. They played more often too!
  17. Was it Craig Helwig that said we'd never play another game on that stage? UTA does badly need a gym. Still, I'd rather play them than some of these Div.II schools we play.
  18. I heard some of the FIU post game talk from Hank about next home game(s) vs. Denver. The men's game has been moved to a 1pm tip and women at 3:30. The men's game will be on Ch.52 in DFW, regional ESPN+. Also, they will honor the 1988 NCAA tourney men's team, the women's tourney team, former coach Bill Blakeley, and like the top10 scorers? Several teams and individuals to be honored then. We need a big turnout for this on TV and all, be there!
  19. Don't the Lady Eagles play at home vs. #3 LSU that night?
  20. Why, at this point in the season, are we still having trouble executing our offense? It seems we are also lacking in the basic fundamentals, rebounding, shooting, etc... This is usually a reflection of the coach. I hope this is not the case in this instance.
  21. "According to Villarreal, the pool of money for the assistant coaches would also be increased. UNT's nine assistant coaches were paid a total of $442,000 in 2002. "We have people on our staff that are among the best in the business at what they do," Villarreal said. "I think the salary structure has to reflect that. We can't compromise the other things we're planning, but we must put our head coach in a position to keep his assistants." I would bet that UNT pays assistants what is comparable for the SBC. If fans want the assistants to get more, the fans will have to buy more tickets and contribute more to the Mean Green Club. Are you fan enough to help out?
  22. Could someone post a picture of the new floor for those of us who can't make the game? thanks
  23. SMS played at a tough Saint Louis team and won in overtime. Smu beat Tcu in overtime Sunday. It will be interesting to see how UNT matches up with Smu.
  24. Very good point, many don't appreciate what we have at UNT.
