Tony Mitchell To Usa U-19 Camp

Mean Green Matt

Pretty cool to get the chance to represent the USA (he also did at the U-18 level) and a real testament to his skill. 12 of the 17 players invited will make the U-19 world championship team for the tournament this summer. This could be a great opportunity for him to get sharp again before December.

P.S. - I wish the board would let USA and UNT be capitalized in topic titles...

OK Tony,

Here's how it goes...

1st: Gold Medal for Team USA in U-19 Championships!

2nd: Sun Belt Conference Championship!(s)?

Full circle sir! Go Get It!

This will be his second opportunity for a Gold Medal (if he makes the final 12). Tony already has a gold medal with the USA U-18 Team. The really cool thing is (like MeanGreenTexan pointed out in his checklist) that it isn't out of the realmn of possibility that he could be playing in the 2016 olympics.

My two favorite things, UNT and the USA have officially combined!

Matt it is amazing how this one accolade Tony has achieved has already hugely promoted North Texas on a national basis unlike any paid advertising could. What a huge impact this young man has already made on the program without even stepping on the court yet! GMG!

Not to rain on the parade but I thought Tony Mitchell is not allowed contact with basketball team until he has 24 hrs complete? So confused how AD can do this article for a player who is not yet eligible for the team per NCAA Regulations? Now if this came straight from main UNT website no issue, but from athletics seems a little odd. Or am I mistaken?

Regardless this is awesome exposure and look forward to seeing Mitchell on the court in Mean Green colors. :thumbsu:

Where in the article did it say Tony has had contact, like participated in a practice, with the team? They mention he is a freshman and it part of the recent recruiting class but that's it.

Just because the AD knows of Mitchell's selection does not mean to imply in any manner that Tony is associated with the UNT team and/or coaches. He still does not practice with the team nor is he coached by any member of the staff. This is merely the reporting of a newsworthy item.

He is listed as being from the University of North Texas because that is where he is enrolled. I didn't glean anything from the article that indicated that he was (or would be) a part of the team.

like I said was just spitballing. Hope he does well this summer and we get to see him on the court come Spring 2012

Hope we see him before Spring 2012, because we might need him earlier to get that far in The Dance.

I hope he is selected, but I will say this. Participation will decrease the ability to complete summer school hours, which in turn deceased the ability to complete the needed hours to compete for the Mean Green.

I don't care about this tournament at all, but I do want this young man suited up in green.

Good point. Anyone have a clue as to how he did this semester?

he is on track to play after the next semester... although Vito posted in on of his articles a month or s ago that he could play even sooner... I had not heard that, and have not seen any evidence for it... so I would assume he is still on track for being ready by/after next fall... and hopefully plays the 2012-2013 season as well, especially since right now we cannot find a fit for our final scholarship....

You may get your wish.

Evidently the 2 sides in the NBA are further apart than the 2 sides in the NFL right now and not budging, making a lockout just about a forgone conclusion.

There may be some new information, to which I am very appreciative if anyone has been following the NBA CBA closely.

For what it's worth, we don't know where Tony was on their wish list. He was the #12 player in the class of 2010 with previous USA U-18 experience. Not saying he didn't get an invite because others turned it down, because obviously I don't know...but I would love to know the order their invites went out.
