I (admittedly) haven’t done much reading on reactions to this new policy, but I’m in the group that thinks it is simultaneously the right thing to do, and also severely damages the spirit of college sports.

Right thing for the players and wrong thing for College Sports at the same time. If possible, the split between P5 and G5 (and even the lower P5s) will grow even wider. I believe this will add another piece to a selected group of P5 teams eventually splitting off to form their on organization. Also, here are 2 more predictions/questions -

1 - How long until the first player gets into problem with taxes and then sues the University for not "doing their job" and making sure he/she knew everything they needed to do?

2 - How long until the first Title 9 lawsuit when it ends up being P5 male players making the big bucks?

Would rather see Football do like BB and have someone start paid leagues for those players who do not want to go to college.

Disagree all you want but when this completely changes the landscape, and not for the good, lets discuss again (remember those who thought the transfer portal would be good - now there are wholescale movements and new levels of tampering).

  2. I always find the analysis somewhat a joke. Funny how a talented player can make a coach so much better. I Heard an interview with Northwestern's HC where he joked about how coaches can forget everything about coaching when they are having bad years and then all of the sudden "rediscover" themselves when things are going well. Taking nothing away from those at the top of the list, but it seems to me the better coaches are the ones who are able to find success without the unlimited funding and teams full of 4/5 star players.

The defense WILL improve because of everything I saw Bennett teaching and implying during the spring convinced me. They should be much faster and overall bigger. With that being said, we’re playing catch-up with others (SMU UAB Liberty Marshall) because they started doing this years ago. The pieces are here, now time to finish off the development stage and let it fly for the fall!

I do think the Murphy twins will be a factor, but it’s the first time in years we’ve actually had depth on defense. First snap starters will probably mean nothing.

For example, look at the linebackers. Both Davis’ return, Nixon, Wood, Brown, Howell, Kropp (who I’m personally excited for, he’s freaking massive) and a few others. Absolutely loaded in talent, and all of the guys in the 2 deep could start at any cusa school. They might be a little bit young once you go down the chart, but so much raw talent that hasn’t been exploited in the correct way.

I think the Murphy Twins might be getting overlooked by those outside the Green Family. I am hoping they surprise everyone this year.

If you like the outdoors, golf, hiking and cool weather in the summer, then my "go to" spot in New Mexico is Cloudcroft.  Small town at about 9,000 feet.  I take my boys camping there every summer to escape the west Texas heat.  It is usually has a high in the low 70's and lows in the 40's in August.  It is a sleepy little down, so if you want more excitement you can head down the mountain about thirty miles to Ruidoso that has much more to do including horse racing.

Great place!!! Like it much better than Ruidoso which is also another great place to visit. Family used to have a cabin in Ruidoso and we would try to take the "long-cut" and go through Cloudcroft every chance we could.

Can also recommend Capitan (Smoky Bear) and Lincoln (Billy the Kid) as okay place to visit if your in the area

Sadly a lot of the places in this area were hit hard this past year.

One of the possible scenarios is Drummond beats out the other two.  Either this year, next year, or the next.

    Or people could get injured.

Or either Ruder or Aune transfer out, and Drummond finds himself the #2 QB next year.

Drummond could love it at North Texas, and decide he wants to stay and contribute however he can.

We've had a lot of high expectations for transfers who never lived up to those expectations.  I'm not saying that will be the case with Ruder, but it's certainly possible.  And his ability to stay consistently healthy the next 4 years is certainly questionable.  I'd say the odds would be about even as to whether Ruder or Drummond will be the starter in 2024.

I guess the age of the transfer portal has make me think the worse 💩

Way too early to say that.  There are so many possible scenarios that could play out.  And even if it doesn't look like he's going to start by his redshirt freshman season...If Kason Martin hasn't transferred out after all the time he's been here, why would we automatically assume that Drummond will be hitting the door after his first season?

Time will tell, but keep in mind Jace has 4 years if he chooses and if he comes in and starts he could be there for a while. Austin still has 3 years.

    Correct:

2018 season - True Freshman. Played less than four games before being injured, therefore was eligible for traditional redshirt.

2019 season - Redshirt Freshman. Played less than four games before being injured, so he applied for a hardship waiver. The NCAA granted it, as they almost always do, for missing the majority of two separate seasons due to injury.

2020 season - Redshirt Freshman take two. Every player’s eligibility was frozen for the 2020 season, therefore every player’s 2021 eligibility is the same as their 2020 eligibility.

May 2021 - Graduates college at end of third year of college.

2021 season - Redshirt Freshman take three.

@BillySee58I still think every time you look at our post you must be thinking

Oh wow. For some reason I thought he was a grad transfer

Been explained by someone, but there is an injury (medical red shirt), Covid, and maybe a "traditional" red shirt. In the mix. When he first announced I joked that if he stays 4 years they might be announcing the starting QB as Dr. Ruder

PS - He did just Graduate from UNC

  9. We see all of the stories about how much this coach or that coach makes, but if you look at sites like footballscoop.com and the the "entry" level jobs advertised you realize that at lot of these men are not making squat. Helps you understand why so many move around year after year, or take a job and then suddenly leave. I know I an as guilty as anyone when it comes to bitching about coaches not being this or that, but its hard to question their commitment to the game.
