Call me naive, but how is the NIL a 100% terrible thing like many on this board are making it out to be? While I do agree that there is the likelihood for separating the Power 5 from the Group of 5 and the big guns in the Power 5 from the rest, is this not fair for the athletes? Any other student on a scholarship can monetize themselves for what they are on scholarship for. Music scholarship student can release an album and make money. Art scholarship student can sell paintings and not lose a scholarship. How is this any different?

Further, in all honesty, it is not as if UNT was competing against the big guns of college football, nor where they ever going to. I love UNT as much as the next guy, but realistic expecations are important. We can and should be the top of the also rans in the next college football shake up.

There are many good thing, but sadly people will look for chances to pay players (Reference Miami). Combine this with the recruiting already going on with the portal and you have opened up a "legal" way to screw things up.

  2. Makes you wonder how soon until players are not required to even take classes during the fall. Time for the NFL to open up a developmental farm system with several teams to hire players straight out of High School and stop acting like they are interested in the players education and life after they can no longer play.

For the same reason people care what their lawn looks like, whether their car is clean, whether their clothes are ironed, or whether the house is tidy before guests come over.   The same reason the military cares whether your uniform is clean and pressed.

Commitment to the small details is a reflection of your level of overall commitment to excellence.

This is a theme you hear over and over when players speak of coaches like Belichick and Sabin. They have a relentless push to the details.

    The Rise of Skywalker

Speaking of transfers, is North Texas transfer Jason Bean (pictured above) the quarterback of the future?

Well since this is the optimistic article, I’ll tell you yes, of course he is. The second he stepped on campus, he became one of the fastest players on the roster,

and in 8 games last year, he posted a 14-5 TD-INT ratio for the Mean Green.

If this coaching staff can figure out a way to get Bean into space and/or give him any time at all in the pocket, his 54% completion percentage should dramatically

improve. That’s easier said that done, but keep in mind, no quarterback can be as accurate as Imperial Stormtroopers.

My idea was off of UNT production. NFL production would change some of my people

This is a problem a lot of people have when you talk about best "college" players - they want to include what they did in the pros. Take Tebow or Manziel; both great college players who did not transition to the NFL. Another reason why the most "ready to play in the NFL" players do not always win the Heisman.

Exactly.  Not many and Santiago was all-conference, as I recall, and Lyles seems happy and ready to breakout.  I don't recall us having an issue with either being homesick.  Now, the recruits from Louisiana...

I wish more Denton HS players would get homesick

The outrage from UNT students would be insane.

Why does always get brought up when threads of new coaches comes up

Just wondering; would this be the same students who might not ever attend a game when they are at UNT?

It wasn’t anything close to related to the Baylor stuff. He used one of his former olayers as a pseudo-assistant coach but because he wasn’t an employee of the school je was reprimanded by the district. The other issue was 2 players moving in from elsewhere to play football which is not allow but happens at the powerful big name high schools all the time.

Recruiting of players has been going on in East Texas for years. If anyone tells you different, with all due respect they are lying

I was trying to make the point that even with a cloud over the program and Rhule being Baylor’s version of “straight-arrow Genaro”, their players still got into these situations. It is hard to keep young adults under your thumb at all times no matter how diligent you try to be. If the same thing happened under Briles they’d make a massive national deal about this but because Rhule had already taken over, it was mostly local news coverage.

    My bad ....

  10. Hate them all you want, but 2020 was a good year to be a fans of theirs

All six of Liberty's athletics programs that completed their seasons during the 2020 calendar year, survived the craziness and walked away with a championship trophy.

Liberty's men's and women's basketball both claimed ASUN Conference championships. The men's and women's track & field teams did the same with a sweep of the conference's indoor track titles to close out a historic coaching career.

The Lady Flames swimming & diving program captured their third Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Women's Swimming & Diving Championships in program history, while the Flames football program won its second Cure Bowl championship in as many seasons.

The men's basketball team finished the 2019-20 season by repeating as ASUN champions. The Flames closed out their 30-year run inside the Vines Center by capturing the title on their home court to finish off a program-best 30-4 overall record.

The women's basketball team posted a 20-11 overall record and shared the ASUN Conference title with Florida Gulf Coast after the two were unable to meet in the scheduled title game at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The title was Liberty's 18th conference championship in program history and the first since joining the ASUN Conference.

The men's and women's track & field programs sent legendary head coach Brant Tolsma out in style by posting convincing victories at the ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships. Tolsma, who announced his retirement plans following the meet, picked up his 116th and final conference title on the day during his storied 34-year career as head coach.

The women's swimming & diving program successfully defended their CCSA title with a sizable win over Florida Gulf Coast. The Lady Flames' 163-point win over FGCU took place in the same pool it won its first-ever conference title in Knoxville, Tenn., in 2014.

The football program had a season of "firsts" in 2020, including the team's first-ever national ranking, first win over an ACC opponent, the best start in school history (8-0 to start 2020), first-ever win over a top-25 FBS program and back-to-back bowl game wins.

Liberty defeated a pair of ACC foes in Syracuse and in-state opponent Virginia Tech. The two wins made Liberty the first non-Power 5 team to post a pair of wins over ACC schools in the same season since Houston in 2015.

The Flames finished the season with a 10-1 record, tying the program's record for wins in a season (Liberty finished the 2008 season with a 10-2 record).

With the Cure Bowl win over its former Big South rivals, Liberty became the second transitioning team in NCAA history to win consecutive bowl games during its first two full seasons at the FBS level.

Yikes. Feel for the 2022 kids. NCAA has to step in and make a rule where transfers don’t count towards the 25-per class limit. Maybe say you get 25 HS/JUCO kids and 10 D1 transfers? Coupled with all these kids getting an extra season, there isn’t enough room in the 25 class spots or the 85 roster spots for 2022 kids.

If G5 schools are patient there is a chance some very good HS players could be available at the end. The problem will be will they stay around or will they use G5 schools as a stepping stone.
