    2. Who starts; Aune or Ruder Ruder taking over halfway through the First Game

If it is that close Ruder needs to be starting. Aune has been around long enough and the staff knows what he can do. If it is close for Game 1 then start Ruder and see if he can be as good as we hope he can be.

  2. With the moves by OU and Texas will this change be delayed? Will they hold off and wait to see if more teams move? Will the SEC demand a minimum number of spots? Heard some discussions today the the B1G (Fox) and the Pac12  are getting tired of ESPN's dominance over college football - Not so sure. Once again discussed that those two, while not combining might come to a working agreement. They were saying that they think the shuffles will continue.

  3. Every time people complain about someone calling us by the wrong name or not knowing much about us I think of how many times we have changed designs and the many variations of helmets. PICK SOMETHING AND STAY WITH IT. Maybe have an alternate for special occasions but stop with the changes.

  4. Players hit the transfer portal seemingly every day now and on the surface, that seems like players are really quick to give up on their school and look for greener pastures elsewhere.

“That’s true in some cases, but I think the transfer portal has also convinced college coaches that it’s easier to ask players to move on from their program. When you look at the number of players who enter the portal and don’t find a new home, it’s hard not to wonder if many of those players didn’t have a choice to enter their name into the transfer portal.”

I doubt SL was pushing him out the door. Now he is at an FCS.

Can we use this as a cautionary tale that it is risky for student athletes to go into the portal for decent players who haven't really broken through yet. Many of them will not find greener grass.

The high profile transfers make the headlines but the majority of players end up in situation that are not as good as they hoped. There are always a lot of players who get no additional opportunities.

So for the sake of argument let's say the EXPENDABLE EIGHT from the BIG 12 face the reality that individually they do not increase the revenues of any P5 conference and if the are going to remain a conference they need to poach at least 4 football schools from the AAC. The best candidates probably are Cincy, Houston, CFU, and Memphis. That means the AAC must poach at least 6 football schools from the Belt and CUSA {North Texas not being one of them}, leaving 18 football schools behind . These 18 schools could become a new conference or split into two 9 football conferences .Under this scenario UNT is lumped in with all the CUSA and Belt left behinds, not a pretty picture.

What will blow up the "remaining" is if 2-4 of the schools are able to make moves and then 6-4 are left at the will of the AAC or MWC.

Best-Case (not saying likely, just their best-case)

    • OSU - Pac12 or paired with WVU to the ACC
    • TCU - Pac12 - Convince them with all of the West Coast transplants you would have fans - Central time Zone - Help Texas Recruiting
    • BU - See TCU - Convince them you are close enough the Austin to make all of the transplants happy
    • KU - the B1G stays true to Academics - They bring their AAU accreditations and BB - But is the FB so bad it offsets the benefits of BB?
    • ISU - Similar to KU with the AAU. Football has been steadily good
    • WVU - Gets the ACC invite they have always wanted
    • KSU - MWC?
    • TECH - MWC? I know their fans want the Pac12, but Lubbock?

Still wonder if we end up with two Super-Conference with a few current P5's shown the door

    1. SEC/ACC/B12 - emphasis on FB followed by academics
    2. B1G and PAC12 - Emphasis on Academics

At first, they might have to share due to tv contracts. Even the ACC and SEC have dead weight teams that won't fit in the Super League, and I haven't heard about them being dumped yet.

But, yes, when I do the math and look at locations, budgets, revenue, and markets, I've got between 32-40 teams. Those are the ones that will be there in the end.

Problem is there's realistically 3 tiers. Even with all the improvements, we're sitting WAY below the bottom half of the P5 and significantly below the upper most of the AAC and MWC. And you just have to consider that, even taking out the Super League teams, we are 3rd place in our market.

But it kinda depends on how sustainable some of these budgets become in far-flung conferences without those 32-40 teams giving them the paydays and dwindling tv money.

I believe our athletic department has been doing a very good job learning to live within their means. Will be interested in seeing what happens to some of these schools who have been overextending for years if some of that revenue gets cut off. This last year when the shutdowns hit quite a few schools had to start taking loans immediately to cover fixed expenses. Not saying we'll be in great shape, but if you look at the revenue we get now from TV (thanks Judy) we have not been counting on that to build.

  8. It's a done deal .... So, whenever they start playing it's a safe bet they will have rougher starts than what they face in the B12. For this purpose, let's say the first couple of years they only win 7-8 games, or perhaps 5 or 6. Whose fans will be the first to turn and be angry for what is happening? I find it funny Texas could not dominate or even have great seasons in the Big 12, but of course now they're going to be the wonder team immediately according to their fans (the B12 has been holding them back). Oklahoma has had ongoing success winning championship after championship in the B12. Perhaps one or both surprise everyone and get to the top of the SEC quickly.

I think we all know where it's headed, just not the route it's going to take, as it's not a straight shot. The "P5/whatever" might end up with more in the short-term, because they need to consolidate the big money programs and it's easier for those biggest players (Big12, Pac12) to just dump their conferences and move into another. But also, keep in mind, that there are currently 65 P5 teams. A 4x16 setup is 64 "P4" teams. I think eventually we end up with 2x16/18/20 depending on what happens for these programs economically over the re-shuffling. But the reason this is happening is that 65 is already too much.

Since it's a message board, let's just throw out some baseless conjecture:

The big teams from the Pac12 decide to jump ship, too, and move into the Big10. Then the Pac12 in the short-term has to take on some numbers so they pull from the MWC and/or remainders of the Big12. Big12 also will be trying to solidify their position by pulling from the MWC and AAC, hopefully (for them), before they get poached by the Pac. Maybe it trickles down, or maybe some conferences fold up or bottom tiers re-adjust regionally. But on the grand scale, what happens below the Big12 and Pac12 doesn't matter. Notre Dame goes to whomever they wish (ACC or Big10).

So now the Big12 and Pac12 are a shell, because they've lost the teams that make the conferences really go. They get to keep their TV contracts for the remainder, but all that TV money is gonna drop without the big boys in the next go round. And, truthfully, we're down to a P3 (Big10, SEC, ACC). They are soaking up all that delicious media money, but they've also got their eyes on the NEXT move.

The next move is an entirely new thing. 1) I don't know how you kick teams OUT of a conference so much as move and re-brand, leaving them behind. 2) This new thing doesn't have any reason to deal with the NCAA. The big money boys from the ACC and SEC join forces for their conference, and dump the bottom half.  Sorry kids, it was fun while it lasted. Meanwhile, the Big10 does the same thing, possibly taking some of the further West schools from the SEC and/or a few of the Pac12 who couldn't make the move initially but have/generate enough dough to play in the same sandbox.  The bottom half of the SEC, Big10, ACC now gets in the middling leftover stew of the Pac12, Big12, MWC, and AAC.

    So:

Phase 1: Collect Underpants (Big Money Schools)

Phase 2: ? (dump the dead weight)

    Phase 3: Profit

Right now, the duration and value of the TV contracts is what keeps this from being easy. I honestly wish it would just hurry up and blow up so we could realign into something more concentrated on regional rivalries and butts-in-seats.

Will the greedy want to share the money with 64 teams? I still think were headed to a 32 team Super League

If this happened at a previous Olympics, or if it were a guy (maybe not now), what she did would be called a "choke".  The Olympics is a pretty rough place to do that, especially with her history.   I don't think this is illegitimate to say or think.    Whatever her reason, she did not perform up to her (and really, everyone's standard for her).   That said, people tearing her down... that's uncalled for.

And I agree with her and many athletes who feel they shoulder too much weight/expectations.   These expectations are heaped upon them by media, and nowdays social media dumps even more weight on.   She's been able to carry that weight for a very long time!   It sucks that it happened to finally break her RIGHT NOW.   But you could see her on that vault before she left... completely unaware of where she was in the air.   That's dangerous when doing what she's doing.

I don't blame her at all for shielding herself from injury and her teammates from what was going to be poor scores.   Her replacement came in and nailed it.  They got the silver medal.  I'm still proud of them, and I still think Biles is the greatest gymnast ever.

Unless it comes to endorsements and having people wait on them. More and more "athletes" want the platforms when it benefits them, but get ticked if they are questioned. Maybe this is not the case here, but as often as it happens it raises the question.

I hope she is OK. The timing is what I question.

So if we beat Mizzou and SMU, Will the AAC or MWC pick us?

The time to win and get into a better conference passed us by decades ago.

Wins are not the only thing or SMU would have never been in the AAC.
