  1. I nominate for post of the month.
  2. You know, after the onside kick, if Woody had put the ball in the general area of Quinn it would have been six. But he, like the rest of the world is not comfortable with Johnny's speed. The ball was thrown behind Quinn and Akron picked it off. I agree, time will fix the problem. And what really matters are the next 7 games...right the ship and all is well. None of our boys on that field gave up on the game. Dickey must have lit a match under their butts because that second half they had fire in their eyes. The play calling was similar to SMU, Akron was just better, and we failed to execute. But it was not from lack of want or desire. I really think we are going to put a pounding on MUTS on Sat. And on a scheduleing note, isnt it nice to have our $$$ game on week one instead of getting stomped going into conf play... I strongly believe that we would have won this game if our QB situation was settled at the beginning of the season. Woody needed more play time to get in sync.
  3. You know, actually once the game started you never noticed them. They really lit up the field well. If we build a new stadium, I really wouldnt mind putting the poles on the field, add a bit of Old School feel to the game. That could be our goofy throwback bit, like the mini monster at the Ballpark.
  4. 1) going to the Rubber Bowl is like going to the county fair. You park in a big grassy field and hike in. Since there was only one parking area, most everyone has to park way out in the boonies and there is very little tailgating. 2) sitelines in the Rubber Bowl are great, we were so close to the action I felt like I was standing on the sidelines of an intramural football game. 3) Akron folks are friendly, but most students didn't know there was a game (I went to campus and asked a girl where the rubberbowl was, she pointed me up the street to a practice field, drove around and went into a convenience store, they had no idea where it was, found frat house, and none of them could even tell me where the Rubber Bowl was) 4) They had HS band day, there were 5 or 6 HS bands and all their parents, rocking out the whole game. Infact the Akron band played the entire game, there was always a drum beat or something going on. The game atmosphere was great. 5) Akron has serious attendance issues, even with the bands and a team having a big win over NC State, they had just over 16k. 6) The difference in the game was they took advantage of the gifts early in the game and we didn't take advantage of the gifts late. 7) The D left it all on the field and got stronger as the game went on. I swear Sky Pruitt willed his way into about every play in the 4th. I am telling you I was so proud of the way they played. They never gave up. I think we are in for a show this weekend. 8) Akron has a really good QB and a lot of team speed, the likes of which I dont think we will see the rest of the year. 9) Akron is a pretty cool town, but most of the rest of north eastern Ohio kind of feels like a 70's strip mall with constant wind and overcast sky's. I bet the winters there are awful. 10) It was great to see Scrappy and the cheerleaders there. Glad they made the trip. 11) They actually have Shiner in Ohio. 12) They had a handful of hot girls, but overall not so much...it is good to be home.
  5. It looks like they are in the position we were in about 8 years ago. A handfull of die hards, hoping, wishing, wanting to do anything they can to get the fans out to games. There is even a thread on their board asking how to tailgate. I know many of us can feel for their dedicated fans, beating your head against the wall of apathy, trying to get old friends fired up to just come back to a game...For those who think the 4 trips to the NO Bowl didnt accomplish anything just have a look at their board traffic compared to ours. They had a great season last year, went to a bowl and have 3-6 folks on their site. How many of us first logged on after the 1st or 2nd bowl trip. We now have a pretty steady 20 - 40 on the site at all times. I am packing my duck hunting gear and heading to beautiful N/E Ohio tomorrow. GO MEAN GREEN!
  6. CFN Weekly Bowl Prediction
  7. How about A&M giving 23 1/2 to LaTech???
  8. I am starting to convince myself that GGII might be right. Right now we are right where we should be, 1 - 2. We keep underestimating Tulsa, even after they blew through their competition last year. Tulsa is a really really good team, that was basically the same bunch that beat us last year. I think DD will take the gloves off the O against Akron, open things up and get JT & Quinn rolling into league play. GMG
  9. A brief History of MUTS. Lets go into the way back machine...it was 5 years ago, the 2001 season. The Sun Belt was in its first year and the darling of the league was Mid Tenn. All preseason predictions were that Muts would blow through the conference. Muts had the best coach and by far the most talent. Muts started 2001 off with a big win over Vandy, followed by consecutive dismantelngs of Troy and 3 Belt schools out scoring them 188 - 104. NT was picked pre season middle of the pack, coming off a pitiful 3-8 season in 2000. NT started the season off with 5 consecutive losses to TCU, OK, Tech, South Florida and in the conference opener to LaMo. Dickey was told to win or pack up and get out of Denton. Muts rolled into Denton with the Bowl game on their mind, they had all but wrapped up the conference. But then everything changed. A group of unknown underclassmen rose to the occasion and scratched out a victory. 24 - 21. Muts went on to win the rest of their non conf games en-route to an 8-3 record, their only other losses coming from Ole Miss and LSU. NT went on to win the rest of their Belt games but finished with a loss at Troy (independent at the time) to go 5-6. But because of the head to head tiebreaker, NT got the bowl bid...Muts got to claim co-champ, but received no bowl invite, and thus stayed home. In 2002 Muts declared revenge, again the pre-season darling of the Belt. They had once again the best recruiting class, senior talent and a superior coach. But it wasn't to be. By the time the two schools met in late november, NT had all but wrapped up their second title...and muts already had 7 losses. The game was marred with cheap shots and dirty play from the frustrated Muts. Muts finished 4-8 while NT went on to sweep the conference. In 2003 NT was finally picked preseason 1st and again dominated the Belt...Muts who was supposed to come in a close 2nd again finished 4-8 In 2004 NT was again preseason #1, Muts was again preseason #2, NT dominated and Muts finished 5-6. And again in 2005, the popular preseason pic was back to Muts. MUTS was loaded with talent and we were young and green. It was the finally going to be the year they beat us and rightfully claim their Belt. We strolled into MUTS and once again broke their hearts.
  10. I am flying to Cle on Trs. Is anyone else going? Or is it going to be me and 20,000 Zips fans? GMG
  11. When we beat SMU next year, does the win count, as far a bowl eligibility goes? I cant remember the specific rules...something about 2 wins in two years or something? Go Mean Green
  12. Baby Arm, that may be the greatest thing I have ever seen on this board. Good Strong Truthyness.
  13. Lets see... we beat Baylor 52 - 14, they turn around and beat us 37 - 14. Tulsa Beats us 52 - 2 we beat them...37 - 2! GMG
  14. "The quarterback Dickey picks to come off the bench will be determined by the game situation" Hopefully that means only when we are up 21 in the 4th... GMG
  15. I am flying up to Akron next week, gotta sit this one out.
  16. Other than a cup of coffee on the hospitality deck, I also sat with the students. Brought 6 folks that hadn't been to a game in years, they all had a blast. They will be back.
  17. I actually like the SMU band unis much more than ours, And thumbs up for their fire works mood music. But that is as far as I will ever go with praise of smu. I think the Gin is gettn to me...off to bed
  18. Just got a message from an AFA grad friend who says that AFA have the game down for 9/12/09. So it looks like first game on the road v LSU and second at home v AFA, hopefully the first game in our pretty new stadium. See page 2 of the linked pdf. AFA media guide
  19. I am in H, but odds are I will be on the student side.
  20. OU Anyone know who is the opening day opponent next year for us???
  21. The Real Eatate/Proprty Mgmt is one of the best in the country. Oh, and someone named Cowtown graduated from UNT and he is totally kick ass.
  22. I dont remember ever seeing black pants, only dark green...I might be going color blind though.
  23. Cant stand the all white. I agree with MGD, it looks like PJ's. Personally I wouldn't mind tricking it up even more and going with some fresh black pants, green socks, black shoes.
