  1. A lot can happen in the mind of a 18 or 19 year old kid between January 26 and October whatever. Not the least of which is change his mind. I hope he comes to NT, but I hope we're not just giving him a place to hang out until he is ready for the NBA draft.

Do you think Kentucky was upset that they were just John Wall's "hang out" until he was ready for the NBA draft?

If all goes according to plan, Mitchell will play here next season (and if we're lucky, maybe another) before he goes in the draft. That should, ideally, open a pipeline for other high profile players to join the Mean Green.

IF he gets into UNT and then sees the floor next season, then this is a win-win for everyone.

  2. I'm smelling the first ever sellout at the Pit. Corretion, the first sellout for a basketball game that I'm aware of. I'm also sensing BB season ticktets in my future.

If not from Mean Green fans, then from local hoops fans. Having Tony and Jordan on the same team (plus whoever else decides to possibly transfer here, ahem *sinnednalon*) will bring alot of fans (re: paying customers) to the Pit who have no allegiance to UNT.

  3. Exciting news, of course. But COME ON! Vito. What a joke.

Your original post suggested this news would change the landscape of NT athletics for years to come. I don't see the signing of a great, but academically ineligible, basketball player to qualify as that.

Best case scenario he gets in, dominates the belt next year, and probably leaves after one year so he doesn't have to go to class anymore. I don't see that as being worthy of your first tease.

Just another reason not to read his blog.

    oh wow... just...

  4. Add La Tech and New Mexico St. and let's shake hands and be done with it. Everyone could agree that adding both of them would be a positive for the Belt but the inclusion of Georgia State, UTSA, TSUSM and Southern Bama is not what Waters stated he had in mind by adding teams to the Belt. You can't just go from two months ago clearly stating that the Belt would not be interested in adding additional teams that have not played one down of Div IA football to now adding 4.

They're already in the SBC, and are already planning to move up. They will have full backing by the conference as well.

  5. Based on McCarney's comments and in turn, his actions thus far in the recruiting process I think you'll see a max of 1 JUCO DTs brought in...he said, and he is focusing on high schoolers.

Open competition at tackle next season between one JC, Cantly, White, Abbe and Anyiam...maybe Boutwell. It may be a raw group, but it has size and at some point you've got to anticipate player development.

Anticipate player development all you want, but this is frightening. I hope these guys step up, but would rather see some JUCO help.

  6. You must not watch college football. Its called strength of schedule. If Boise or TCU played Miami, Florida State, Clemson, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech or North Carolina, they wouldn't have the records or rankings that they did. next statement.

Oh no. Now you did it.

  7. I'd venture to say - most, if not all, PG's worth their salt will make seemingly reckless drives to the basket if their team is struggling to try and get something going.

I agree with this, and what makes it even better is that Josh is so quick that the other team often has to foul him, and we all know how well Josh shoots from the stripe.

The only detriment is when Josh recklessly goes into the paint and gets his shot swatted hard because he's so short. That happens to him maybe 1/4 of the times he does this. It really gives the other team a boost of confidence.

  8. I know most members of this board prefer to see the Dodge years as some aberration on the grand rise of NT football, but from the outside looking in Dickey was the only guy to win at North Texas since Hayden Fry. Of course, if he doesn't perform at TSSM he may have used all that up.

    EDIT: FONTS!!!?!?!?!!!

Sir. Your statement above is an oxymoron. You cannot be a moderator of this board as well as an outsider looking in. Sir.

    Please don't ban me. Sir.

  9. With recruiting ramping up the anticipation for next season should build up until it hurts pretty soon for most of us. Here's a little something to ease your NT football jones in the meantime.

Actually, this does not ease the pain at all... it just reminds me how much I already miss Craig Robertson.

Looking forward to watching Zach Orr take his place as the next great Mean Green LB though.
