  1. Riley is a piss poor example sir. He only came because Daddy came. Period.

His last class had 10 Juco's?

The 2007 Class contributed only 3 players still on the roster.

We've also failed to address at least one pressing need every yr.

Not this yr. We addressed every need on our team, with only 3 Juco's and one of the largest classes in the last 5 yrs.

Agreed, to ultimately know how this class turns out, we'll have to wait until 2013-2014, when they've all had a chance to become srs and we can truly judge the entire body of work.

I appreciate your caution, truly do, but I'll remain optimistic and excited about the young men that have committed to us so far.

    How 'bout D-tackle?

  2. Let it go. Please. The SMU bit has grown tiresome and embarrassing.

I really think this should be its own pinned thread. Heck, maybe even the only thread in its own forum.

Its OK to not like a school, but to attack an obvious SMU homer like a neglected dog is really just plain sorry. Sure his opinion is ill-formed, but are alot of opinions from gmg.com'ers (myself included) here so different?

Its one thing if this happens once or twice when a SMU Troll comes on and baits some of us, but every single time??

  3. All I can say is Wow Skiver. Way to take the high ground. If this is what recent grads are like, it's a scary future.

Tag along. Trounce on others for taking pride and have some friendly banter back and forth. Then you drop in, unnvited, to tell everyone to shut the hell up.

To call anyone else who may have hooped at the Rec a punk is just myopic and uneducated.

Your post was a joke, boy.

Punks are those that hide behind a wall of anonymity, while name calling and grandstanding.

PS - GMG Bball game is coming up, Is mr Baller himself going to attend?

?? I guess I didn't see it this way? Trash talk was happening (however spirited), and Skiver contributed.

  4. Sorry to bring bad news, but carr commited to OSU this weekend.

By the way how is shavod playing. he is from my hometown and was excited to see him go to UNT.

I'll need some sort of confirmation before I believe this... Say it aint so Brett Vito!

  5. I hope NT builds a program were a top national rated player has to sit on the bench before he gets playing time. If everything turns real positive for NT and NT actually gets eligible Mitchell and Henry, I could see this starting lineup:

    Chris Jones 6/2 PG

    Jordan Williams 6'6 W

    Alzee Williams 6/4 W

    J. Holmen 6'8 P

    T. Mitchell 6'8 P

    Rotation F. Robinson, K. Hogans, T. Norris, J. Henry

Holmen would have to really up his game to start as Robinson or Henry could quickly take his place

    A. Williams starts for his defense and this team really doesn't need more offense

I doubt Edwards, Walton and Knox would ever see the court other then blowouts

This team would probably blow past about everyone on the schedule but NT still could use a good shooting guard.

That's where Walton comes in. Hopefully he can be an Adam McCoy type guy that comes off the bench, increases energy and nails huge 3's.

I have a feeling that if Jarion comes to UNT, he'll be starting, but maybe Holmen can step his game up.

  6. Hats off to Johnny Jones, Shawn Forrest and everyone involved in the recruting process.

I believe that Henry will committ to UNT. I hope Tony Mitchell sticks with his studies and gets all the necessary credits. I expect that one of the two of them will be in uniform next December.

Starting line up at season's beginning in 2011 should be:

    Alzee Williams PG

    Walton SG

    J. Williams SF

    K. Hogans PF

    B. Knox C

Off the bench - T. Norris, C. Jones, J. Holmen, J. Henry, and/or T. Mitchell, C. Spencer (maybe) and returning PF whose name is not hitting me right now and too lazy too look

    You cant be serious?

  7. As far as road games go for the remainder of the year, I want to win at least 2: @Denver & @WKU. If we can keep our home winning streak in tact (will be tough with FAU coming to town), and we can find a way to get those two road games (and I'm sure we can pick up at least one out of UALR & ASU as well), we should be OK.

Looking at this loss and the MTSU loss (which appear to be very similar), I think the issue is with the pace of the game being interrupted by fouls. If UNT controls the pace of the game, it's in the bag. If fouls continue to throw wrenches in the flow of the game, we really struggle if not lose.

Here's an extra credit assignment for Tasty/CBL/CMJ if you choose to accept: Are there specific Sun Belt referees who are known to call more fouls versus some who swallow the whistle? I would be interested to see how UNT plays when specific referees are calling the game.

  8. It is difficult not to get excited about Mitchell enrolling, and I have been vocal about tempering our excitement until he takes care of business in the classroom, but I must say I like the fact that his high school coach is involved. I hope he provides the support system needed to keep him motivated towards becoming eligible.

So, what will Mitchell's classification be, or how many years will he have to play if he becomes academically eligible? Would he be considered a freshman and we could chalk up this year as a redshirt?

Lifer, I'm sensing that you're not getting the magnitude of this pickup...

I doubt we will see Mr. Mitchell in a UNT uniform for longer than 2 years (NBA bound). No need to redshirt him, even if it were possible.

  9. That kind of talk gives me chills just thinking about it. This is by far our biggest signing in the last 30 yrs, period. Bigger than Cole or any other transfer. Kid went to class at Pinkston, had no issues there. Missed TAKS by one point on math. Our academic advisors and athletic staff will provide Tony with every resource available to get him eligible. And from the sound of it, he has until the end of the Fall Semester to complete 24 hrs, unless I'm reading that incorrectly? That seems highly manageable.

Looks like they plan to have him caught up by the end of the summer:

Whether Mitchell will be accepted as a student is not yet known, but Smith is confident the player who was ranked as the No. 12 recruit out of high school will be in a North Texas lecture hall soon.

“He’ll take 15 hours this spring semester, come back and take nine in the summer … He’ll come back that fall, and he’ll be eligible Dec. 17,” Smith said.
