  1. Not true. If we win regular season Sun Belt title we will get to go to the NIT postseason tournament.

Exactly, with probably a 5 or 6 seed.

I know NIT isn't the NCAA tournament, but it is post season play (which is hard to achieve in basketball unlike football). We could win a game or two in the NIT and might actually get to play on ESPN.

You guys are talking like we've already lost... WHAT's WRONG WITH YOU?!?!

Maybe we need to chug on over to mamby-pamby land?? YOU JACKWAGONS!!

YES we're going to win the SBC Regular Season race, and we're also going to win the SBC Conference Tourney. That's a fact!

  2. In football, softball, and golf. Apparently it is related to "impermissible text messages."

    http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/14521694/texas-tech-accused-of-recruiting-violations-in-football-other-sports

    Nice find 93-98.

Didn't we lose a Defensive End recruit to Tech after he committed to us, then changed his mind during the silent period? He was from Longview I think... I wonder if he was one of the recruits that were improperly messaged?

  3. I don't care where he goes, either, just to reiterate the point someone else made.

But I do think the guy (and particularly his family) are better suited for coaching at a high school. I don't mean that in any sort of talent or ability sense, I mean in terms of approach to the job and how he and the family handle the environment and surrounding criticism.

Whether or not he will ever succeed as a coach at the college level, I don't know and I'm not trying to speculate. But based on pretty much every public comment he ever made in interviews and the things we hear (both good and bad) from players and parents, I think he'd be happier working with high school kids in a high school environment.

High school, even as seriously as many in Texas take it, is also a much less intense spotlight with far less immediate and intense criticism than college ball. The criticism really seemed to get to Mrs. Dodge, especially in the last year and a half, and based on how she reacted to it I think she'd be happier with him as a revered figure at a powerhouse high school.

I see your opening point, but I like to keep up with where DD is, so I'm sure I'll follow where Dodge is coaching as well. Now, that doesn't mean that I'll become a fan of that school like some of our new IASt fans on the board, but I'll certainly be interested to see where he ends up.

I think as far as his future carreer goes, I tend to agree with TFLF. I think Dodge has a good football mind, but he needs to climb the ladder. You don't get on the tallest stilts you can find when you're learning how to walk in them.

I think if he returns to the high school ranks, it will be because he settled for comfort. I think he could start out as a QB coach at any D1a school, or an O-Coord of a D1aa school or lower right now. He'll learn the ropes, and tweak his offense to stand up to faster, better players while watching a veteran head coach show him the ropes of how a successful college program runs (practice, game management, recruiting). He'll learn alot, and put it all together. Maybe he'll have another HC opportunity down the line. I hope he does.

  4. This is going to be a very very nice legitimate college football stadium. I see no problem drawing Big 12 teams at home now.

Also, the perspective is off. It will look right on Monday.

I'll be excited to see how coach Canales draws up some red zone plays to take advantage of the extra 10 yard oblique area of the South endzone.

  5. Interesting press conference. It was great to hear UNT mentioned. The AD was talking about who Coach Fran was going to have to compete against recruiting - June Jones in Dallas, Mike Sherman in College Station, Mack Brown in Austin and Dan McCarney in Denton. He went one to say that all these guys have been successful at all levels, so he needed to hire a coach who could compete with these coaches.

but not Gary Patterson because he's a bum.

And now for more token smack talk about how TXSt is inferior to us: We don't compete with TXSt for recruits. They compete with SFA and the other D-II schools of that ilk.

  6. From Yahoo!

"Helmet stickers are a big tradition in college football. Many big programs such as Ohio State, Stanford, and Arkansas use helmet stickers. Many other schools used helmet stickers in the past. In a sport that largely focuses on team accolades, helmet stickers serve as a method of rewarding individual players. Different universities give helmet stickers for a variety of reasons. Here's a look how the tradition started and how it is used today."

Enjoy and discuss. I still think NT should go to the green helmet and have white "eagle poop" stickers.

Um Lifer, This board is supposed to have FRESH TOPICS. Is this some kind of joke? :growl:

  7. Texas' applications rose I believe over 50% when they won the national championship. I believe OU's not only applications but the endowment I think tripled or quadrupled the year they won the NC in 200. It's no secret what athletics can do for a university that isn't an Ivy League type of school.

As for TCU's....not everybody is going to be paying 40K a year. Many students will probably get scholarships and grants so while it is an expensive private school it doesn't mean they will be necessarily be paying for the whole thing.

Everyone knows that NC in 200 was a fluke. Oklahoma did not start building its dynasty until all of the transfers from Tennessee, Georgia, and the like started coming in the 1830s.

If you think their endowment increase was impressive, you should have seen the Arapahos.

  8. I haven't figure out why we can't have Bowls as well as a playoff system. Why can't the NCAA adopt something like this...

Continue to have the lesser bowl games such as the "GoDaddy.com Bowl", "Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl" and the "Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl" for teams that have the 6 wins needed, but obviously don't belong in a playoff.

Now, take the bigger bowl games... ex. Cotton Bowl, Gator, Chick-Fil-A, Capital One, Sugar, Rose, Orange, Fiesta, and the National Championship game, and make a damn playoff for the top 8 teams, or top 16 teams, or however many they want. Makes sense to me, why don't any of the guys making the decisions see it this way!?

The reason is simple. It's because... ? :notfair:

  9. You guys are too kind. It's great to be talking with some die hard fans. I am a little disappointed though...I have read the board for a little over a year know and I just knew with my "footballmommy" title, you guys would pound on me a little bit. And I can take it if you do. haha I decided to sign up this year so I can respond to some of the topics. I love to talk football and sometimes talk smack about it. I graduated from an SEC school in another state so I am loving the mean green nation and enjoying UNT football. I have adopted you guys as "my" team since moving to Texas and living in the Denton area. I am looking forward to the new stadium, the new coaches and a team with a renewed spirit, as well as reading the gomeangreen topics. 2011 is going to be an exciting year!

We need more fans like you. Welcome aboard!
