  1. Sometimes the truth hurts! I enjoyed the days of winning conference championships just like everyone else but let’s be honest Dickey was not that great of a coach at that point in time. He quickly got passed over by SBC start ups in both coaching and recruiting. It appears his time under Fuente and Mike Norvell has opened up his offensive philosophy and allowed him to move on from his “Buick” offensive days (let’s be honest the entire crowd new which running play was coming). He’s a much better coordinator and overall coach now!
  2. You forgot to mention visitors had to watch the mandatory 15 minute video on why the "forward pass is just not feasible" LOL
  3. I gotta go with Brad Kassell, Lance Dunbar, Zack Orr and Booger Kennedy!
  4. Hey man I think your spot on! The running of the program he was fine with, just don't ask him to run an offense or manage a game. Memphis has used him in an advisory roll for a few years now. The OC title is just a formality. DD doesn't touch the play calling.
  5. Dude, openly admit I jumped to conculusions on the record thing. However, the only fact JQ is holding that record is because he played in far more games then any other receiver. And to answer your question yes many North Texas receivers had over 500 yards receiving a year, there not hidden they are in your very own fact book(strange comment). As a matter of fact Casey Fitzgerald probably would be the all time leader in receiving if he got to start about two more games. And yes Lance was great and one of the reasons he was great is because he played in a Dodge Offense that at least tried to keep the other team honest. If you think DD was a great play caller your football IQ is questionable at best. Any way I've said my piece!
  6. Nice try man, I loved JQ when he played here but he didn't even make the list for most receiving yards in a season. The only reason he has the most yards in school history is because he is the only receiver I can remember that started for four consecutive years. Look at the passing attempts from Scott Hall every year, that's straight up embarrassing. Once again he had great receivers and tight ends but his stubbornness in refusing to throw the ball got him deservedly fired.
  7. No, receiving records were not set during his tenure as head coach, and yes you're correct in the fact he had great receivers and tight ends, he just refused to throw the ball to allow them to make plays, that was what was so frustrating.
  8. In hindsight I just don't think DD was that great of a coach. He got schooled by all the FBS programs in the Big West at the start of his career and his job was only saved by the fact they moved into the Sunbelt and his teams were good enough to beat a bunch of FBS start ups for a few years until all of those programs clearly passed us by in recruiting and coaching. His record against non Sunbelt schools in the bowl years was awful. Sometimes the truth just hurts.
  9. Yeah OK, I'm sure he would have fooled the Green Bay Packers by running a half back draw on every single third down during the game! The Dickey/Ramon Flanagan offense was hands down worst offensive play calling at any level I've ever seen, it made Dan McCarneys offense look like the air raid! Don't fool yourself that offense at Memphis was all Justin Fuente, there is a reason DD didn't make the trip to VA Tech with Fuente.
  10. Oh well I guess that offense will be dead last next year!
  11. Kind of true, but the Cadets who are contracted and on scholarship (those pursing a commission) have a plethora of requirements/standards, height/weight and academics that are not required by the guys who choose not to go in.
  12. So I'm the department head of an ROTC program at a well known school in the ACC and a pround field grade officer and graduate of the UNT ROTC program. 70% of officers come from ROTC and they are not developed from some "Boy Scout system" as you discribe. It's a challenging program that takes young college students and molds them into future officers. All my cadets are top quality students who are in the process of setting themselves up for success in life. Don't get ROTC confused with programs like ATM where 75% of there cadets don't even pursue a commission in the armed forces, they just do it for school and family tradition. Those Cadets that you want dancing around are held to higher standards then virtually any of their peers!
  13. Rick, my point was comparing Army's success with the other service academies. Oh well to each their own!! Thanks for what you do as well! Go Mean Green beat USMA
  14. Midshipmen at the Naval Academy can choose the Marine option while they are at the Academy if they want to be in the fight. When the Navy and Air Force coach talks to recruits parents they can Push the advantage of being on a ship or aircraft as opposed to leading a platoon slugging it out in a ground fight in the global war on terror. As for your deployments with the Navy, I never said the Navy did not contribute, but you were the extreme minority for your branch.
  15. Rick, as a career Army officer and some who has completed five tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Army has been the overwhelming contributor in the recent wars around the world. The Navy and Air Force contribution is minuscule in comparison and their jobs keep them relatively safe. When Army tries to recruit a player they have been at a significant disadvantage over the years.
  16. Yeah, HBO did a segment on it with Wade Phillips during the 2008 run of Hard Knocks with the Dallas Cowboys.
  17. I understand both of your arguments on the Smith issue. However, for a guy that has a ton of talent and has been playing the QB position his whole life I've never seen a guy struggle so much with basic passing routes. I mean a simple dump off pass was a significant issue for Smith last year. I just think with this being his last year of playing ball its just too late to right the ship!
  18. That Offense was all Fuente, Dickey was just there to provide guidance to the head coach. Someone posted a really good ESPN article about Fuente wanting a former head coach to help him thru the transition period. DD did well in the role he was asked to do! His influence on offenseive play calling was very minimal!
  19. UNC will not make the playoff if they beat Clemson. There strength of schedule along with a loss to South Carolina will be to much to overcome. The announcement will be next week!
  20. I can see it now, Paxton Lynch only gets to throw the ball three times in the whole bowl game!
  21. Agreed, the Texas ties Dodge had was great at acquiring talent, he was just way out of his league in developing that talent!
  22. DT was OK but just an average QB on a talented team! Honestly I think Vizza was a better QB just on a terrible team!
