  2. Memphis football coach Ryan Silverfield is facing pressure from fans after the Tigers' three-game losing streak. There's also growing concern that his job status could be in question if the season continues to spiral. If the Tigers made a coaching change - and there's been no indication that will happen, yet - could they look further south for a potential replacement? On ESPN's College GameDay podcast this week, senior college football writer Pete Thamel suggested Jackson State coach Deion Sanders could be a candidate should the Tigers move on from Silverfield. read more: https://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sports/college/memphis-tigers/2022/10/27/memphis-football-deion-sanders-coaching-change-espn-ryan-silverfield/69597085007/

  4. Wren Baker Baker was hired by the University of North Texas as vice president and athletics director in July 2016. Before that, he served as deputy athletics director of external affairs from 2013-15 as well as deputy athletics director at Missouri beginning in 2015. During his time in Memphis, Baker helped the Tigers secure the largest gift in the university's history, finished with a record fundraising year, and set a new mark for suite sales and multimedia rights revenue. 7. Memphis beats BYU in the bowl! MIAMI (AP) — They battled for 60 minutes, then again for two overtimes and literally fought after the final play. And for Memphis, the end result was a win 76 years in the making. Paxton Lynch threw four touchdown passes and rushed for three more scores, Jake Elliott kicked a 54-yard field goal to end the first extra session and Memphis wasted a pair of double-digit leads before rallying to beat BYU 55-48 in the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl on Monday. "It wasn't always pretty," Memphis coach Justin Fuente said. No, but it was memorable — largely for the right reasons, though also for a scene that got out of hand at the end. read more: http://www.brownsvilleherald.com/sports/national/article_36e2ea84-8aac-11e4-b866-ebecf16cd6c4.html
  8. Do you ever wonder why schools that we were playing in the 70's have taken different routes to success. Each one has had AD's that could face problems and find an answer. They had a plan for the future (ie. goals). Look where we are currently. Being invited to a new conference (sbII), because we are near Dallas saving our bacon because the conference home base is there and there were no other teams that didn't have a dancing partner around!
  9. 1. Conference USA coaches and athletic directors met in Destin, Fla., Monday and, according to multiple sources, there is a strong movement to move the 2013 conference tournament from Memphis to Tulsa. Memphis is leaving for the Big East after next season and while it would make more economic sense to keep the event where it is, there isn't a lot of goodwill toward the Tigers to give them an added advantage in their final season in the conference. A decision on the tournament will be made next month. Read More: http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/59071/3-point-shot-c-usa-tourney-on-the-move
