Defensively, they're desperately needed. Are you on the right board? -

Not for 5 of them as they are juco guys and given their positions we need productivity from them immediately. -

DRC signing day coverage (UNT loses lineman, English update)

Can't say I can. The juco DLinemen coming in absolutely cannot be whiffs and English has to be ready to go game 1. That's the saving grace. If any of that waivers, run defense will be nothing short of unwatchable. -
No way this staff isn't for sure he'll play and not get serious about getting a JUCO DT to fill that void. TBH, they should have either way, but if his career is a wrap it will be a monumental mistake not doing so.

CUSA had the 2nd best recruiting class of the "G5". And IMO, closed the gap a bit on the American. They had 6 teams with a class composite of 150+, CUSA had 7. They are just a deeper conference.

I hope all 19 come in here and tear it up and be conference and New Year 6 bowl champs and become leaders of this team the years to come. But scaling through the bottom half of this class makes me ask the question, did this staff uncover every stone? Did they go from Buffalo to San Diego and Seattle to Miami to get the best 19 players of want and need that were available to us sitting in the US of A? Or did they see some guys that seemed formidable and three a bone out? It just seems like a very "this will do" approach. -

I said it a few months ago, recruiting has improved for us. But, dudes, c'mon....Look at the top 4-6 in CUSA. They did very, very well and most of them, if not all, do not have a whole lot to hold over us. But yet there they are pulling in 70-90% three star class with huge offer sheets as a class. But here we are...

Improvement or not, this is still questionable recruiting. And I could make a very sound argument that Littrell's first class has been his best, which should be concerning given he had about a month to throw that together and got better results.

The same classes lost 5 games of an average score of 49 to 24.8 and had the 110th scoring defense in the country. SoOoO... -
I know what you meant.
-
No doubt. I agree 100%. But having those better linemen in front of you let's LB play more freely and aren't second guessing or hesitating due to having to worry about 300 pounders running at them. It frees them up and let's them play faster mentally and physically. *We did have guys whiff, often times right in the hole. But we did have guys whiff because the change of trajectory due to having to maneuver themselves around linemen. We need some linemen in this class. Some guys that the team and coaches can feel confident about. I think that needs to be a surprise get today and hopefully one from the JUCO ranks that will be ready to come in and help English, TJ, and Young out in the middle.
-
This is deadly accurate. Good interior linemen make average LB's look good and good LB's look great. We have to have guys inside that demand double teams. Zach Orr was a really good LB, but Richard Abbe made him look and play like an all time great.

It's a way, way better deal. And when you're a 3-star at Rice, with how Rice is recruiting/playing of late, you're probably getting on the field and probably as a starter. Starting/playing time at Rice with a free Rice diploma in 4 years is far and away superior than sitting on the bench for 4 years with an out of pocket paid for UT diploma. But hey, I guess academically, this kind of proves he was never Rice material anyway.
-
Stupid decision. Walking away from a potential starter role and the best education in the state of Texas to almost certainly ride pine for the next 4 years.

I don't have much of an issue with it so as long as usually lines up. More offers from coaching staffs is going to be indicative of what kind of player people are after.
-
Hmmm..Given his current example of players yes, absolutely. They are higher regarded in the college coaching community thus they have more interest thus they are *probably* better players.
-
I mean, do you believe this stuff you type? SMU is sitting at an 81+ average with 13/16 of their commits as three stars. They are not scrambling, they are easily out recruiting UNT right now.
-
Neither Jordan Hunt or Larry Nixon have reported offers, FCS and D2 included, other than from us. Gary Wiley at least had 4 FCS offers before landing the SMU offer, reportedly. And the mold I am referring to is that Brown had interest and offers from P5's long before SMU came into the picture. But they seemingly dried up and hen he just had UTEP as his lone legitimate offer before UNT and SMU came along at around the same time, which gave him that microscopic boost up to a 3-star as it rightfully should have. To be frank, given his previous interest, he should have probably been a three star from the get go given his offers from Virginia and Tulane. Then he undoubtedly should be now that SMU and UNT jumped in late on him. Offers and stars go hand-in-hand. They almost always do.
