  1. I'll try to explain why we're getting a worse deal in a way that might be easier to understand: say you are a junior and will be graduating in May 2017. Company xyz recruits you and you agree to work for them for 12 months, starting in June 2017 for $71k; this is a legally binding document and you can't get out without paying a substantial buyout fee. So, you know you will be making $71k in 2 years. Not great, but not bad at all. You're feeling good. but then, you find out someone from somewhere else (we'll say Monroe) gets a job offer to start at the same company tomorrow for $85k. Well, I don't know how you'd feel about that, but I know I'd be like "what the heck". They're making more now than me now than I will in 2 years AND by then they might be making over $90k with inflation type raises. Seems like I got a bad deal, right?
  2. According to fbschedules, Texas A&M is paying Louisiana-Montoe $1.4mil for a guarantee in 2018. $150k more, 2 years earlier...
  3. Gerald Ford stadium capacity 32,000, and its probably 60% full. 2I still think we take more fans than Baylor does.
  4. I received some negative rep from our resident Baylor fans for saying this in another thread, but BU does not tend to travel well. It's one of the reasons, among others, that they struggle with landing a high profile home-and-home. If we get the turn out predicted by some on this site, there's a good possibility that there will be more mean green in ford next week than whatever shade of green Baylor is this week
  5. For our 100th season of football, we should have a throwback homecoming game. Sell tickets and programs at 1913-1915 era prices or even 1950's and 1960's era prices; maybe we could bring back those sweet uniform's we wore against Idaho in 2013!
  6. Fbschedules and the official athletic we site both list kick as 4pm. I haven't seen an official release yet, but I'm guessing this is confirmed. Anyone with some inside knowledge know if I can go ahead and count on a 4pm start time as a certainty?
  7. Rice. A different ranking, in order of which team brings the most fans (from most to least): 1. UTEP 2. Rice 3. UTSA T-4. Portland State T-4. WKU
  8. We will have more fans in attendance at Ford Field on 9/12 than they will on 9/4. For being the best team in the big 12 for the last 3-4 years, they really don't travel well. Baylor was so lucky to get invited to the B12 when they did - the invitation certainly wasn't merit based
  9. @Got5onIt do you have a photo of the tickets that you're willing to share? Don't forget to cover up your bar codes
  10. anyone have a photo they care to share? Remember to cover up your bar codes
  11. Strictly for educational purposes: will you be switching your allegiances and message board presence to the Aztecs or Toreros? Also, I hear Tijuana is great
  12. I'd rather play at Texas or Texas Tech. Texas under Strong gives us a better shot at a W than A&M under Sumlin. Once we have a QB, a win vs Tech is not unrealistic. For those wanting a 1 and 1 with a Big 12 program, this has been discussed ad nauseam on here but here's a recap: Every Big 12 team comes to DFW (Fort Worth @ TCU) at least every other year. Four Big 12 teams come to DFW every year, and twice every other year. Oklahoma/Texas (Cotton Bowl); Baylor/Texas Tech (Jerry World). Our best chances to get a Big 12 team to consider coming to Apogee are Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State; outside shot of getting TCU here. Kansas State under Bill Snyder tries to play all home games in the OOC and West Virginia schedules their OOC east of the Mississippi. Iowa State has the yearly contest vs. Iowa (home in odd years and away in even years); to get them we'd need to do the opposite (kind of like our Army/SMU series). With the Coach Mac connection, I thought we had a real chance at making this series happen. Iowa State has 1-and-1 deals with Toledo, Akron, UNLV, and Arkansas State - why not us? TCU could be sold on the fact that they are playing a de facto home game (we would out number them in Apogee, but this game could be a sellout). With RV's connections to TCU, I'm surprised this one has never been put together. I'd actually be okay with a 2-for-1 with TCU. Oklahoma State recruits DFW and Texas pretty hard. Unlike their counterpart, OU, they only come to DFW once every other year. They have 1-and-1 deals with Central Michigan, South Alabama, and Tulsa. I would think with KRAM's connections, we could get this done. Kansas is another school that recruits hard in Texas. They are a pretty even match (a la Indiana) and are always scheduling one and ones with G5's ... Rice, Central Michigan, Ohio, Memphis, Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss. I would love to see a P5 in Apogee again, but I'm also good with some home and homes with other G5 programs (San Diego (SDSU) or Orlando (UCF) trip anyone?). Wouldn't it be amazing if we could get a 7 game home schedule just once? - I mean while I'm dreaming, why not dream big? UNTcrazy727 is right, Kyle Field/Texas A&M is the best game day experience in Texas. foutsrouts, who do you think beats it?
  13. We need to pull a Baylor and hire our Ian McCaw, an AD who has a unique vision to build the department up and the tenacity to follow up. We need someone to come in who believes they are gonna turn this thing around. Baylor in 2003 vs Baylor in 2015...just wow And for the record, RV makes $300,000/year + an annual retention bonus of $100,000 while Ian McCaw makes just a shade under $500,000. One of these programs is getting quite the deal, while the other is getting hoodwinked.
  14. Student fees are so small time. The onus of supporting an athletic department should be on alumni, conference media revenue, ticket revenue and apparel/licensing. How much was the student fee when DallasGreen was in school? Schools that don't have a student athletic fee: Texas Oklahoma Kansas State Alabama Arkansas Kentucky LSU Missouri Texas A&M Nebraska Penn State Ohio State Michigan Purdue BYU Central Michigan Western Michigan Louisiana - Lafayette Hawaii Louisiana Tech
  15. 10-seed North Texas 63, 15-seed Rice 62 in OT at the 2014 CUSA Tournament. Benford is now 1-3 in conference tournament games (although we did learn that if someone could manage to lose 4 tournament games in single elimination fashion in three years, it would be Benny)
  16. President Smatresk, Please let the BOR know that you want to bring in YOUR guy. This is a chance to make your own hire and put your own stamp on UNT's Athletic Department. RV's time is done; we can't ride that horse any further. P.S. I'm really excited that your signature will be on my diploma in less than two months. Why don't you sign RV's pink slip while you're it? Do it for the kids
  17. Too true. This is the complete list of everyone in our AD who has "Athletic Director" in their title Athletic Director Rick Villarreal - Southern Mississippi, 1989; Domino's Pizza - Decatur, AL Deputy Athletic Director Hank Dickenson - Kansas, 1987; United States Sports Academy Senior Associate Athletic Directors Paul Batchelder - Hartwick College; United States Sports Academy, 1991 Mike Ashbaugh - Fort Hays State, 1993; Wichita State, 1996 Eric Capper - Iowa State, 1992; Iowa Derek Grice - Southern Miss; Southern Miss, 2003 John Nitardy - South Carolina, 1981; Ohio, 1983 Cinnamon Sheffield - LSU, 1992; TCU, 1995 Associate Athletic Directors Scott Hobbs - Rensselair Polytechnic Institute, 1987; Capital University, 1999; Canisius, 2001 Reginald Johnson - UT-Arlington, 1988 Troy Taylor - Texas, 2003; Texas State, 2008 Assistant Athletic Directors Jamie Adams - Belhaven, 1999; Southern Miss, 2002 Nick Nagel - St. John's, 2004; West Virginia, 2007 Temeka Samuels - Eastern Michigan, 2003; Saginaw Valley State, 2005
  18. have a day off. been binge watching old games and Beyond the Green
  19. I love that guy! What a great ambassador for North Texas and the Mean Green
  20. What if the Liberty Flames (Or ACU or Lamar) had more fans in Apogee than us? That would be a fun few days on this board
  21. I think we need to see more pictures of Lydia Gooding. Ya know, for research purposes...
  22. those posts were deleted super quick. Tasty is bringing his "A game"
  23. if there's no main event featuring UNT90, then there's no way this fight night is legit. I'm thinking something along the lines of a royal rumble with multiple cages or something... Fights already on the card: Brett Vito v BillySee58 Andrew v Ben Gooding KRAM1 v Silver Eagle v that coach who rushed him in the stands
  24. what a brutal three game road stretch: @ Louisiana Tech (Nov 7), @ Tennessee (Nov 14), and @ Middle Tenn (Nov 21)
