  1. It was always just a matter of time, but Jordan Scarlett has decommitted from FAU. Will be interesting to see if that class starts to lose their momentum and maybe some more commits. Scarlett has 2 high school teammates currently committed to FAU.

  2. Here are a couple more similar cases.

Brandan Kearney. Played at Michigan State as a freshman (2011-2012) and played his first semester of his sophomore year (fall 2012) at Michigan State, then decided to transfer to Arizona State. Sat out spring 2013 at Arizona State then became eligible in spring 2014 when he then played the second half of that season as a junior. Despite sitting out those 2 semesters he didn't get to count that as a redshirt. Essentially burned the second half of his sophomore year and first half of his junior year through this transfer process.

Jeronne Maymon. Played the first 10 games of his freshman year (fall 2009) at Marquette and then realized he didn't want to play for Buzz Williams anymore. Then sat out spring 2010 at Tennessee and fall 2010. Began playing in spring 2011 as a true sophomore. Again, didn't get to claim that year sitting out as a redshirt. Played the 2011-2012 season as a junior, then sat out 2012-2013 due to injury. He still had his redshirt eligibility, which he used on the injury.

The major difference is Reese is transferring because he was dismissed. But I can't see that being a reason for the NCAA to allow him to resume play in the fall, certainly not as a redshirt sophomore.

  3. 6'3" 208 lb linebacker from Houston. Plays defensive end for his high school. Would be a really good fit as a 3-4 outside linebacker but, theoretically, if he were to play for us he probably projects as a defensive end. Has offers from Vanderbilt, Duke, and us.

  4. So here is a legitimate question. Would we have been better off with CJ? Are we better off with Reese than jones? Obviously we could not have both. I doubt he would have come if he was competing with CJ.

It's hard to compare. Clearly Reese was the more decorated player out of high school. Other than that, CJ was probably the more accomplished college player but you have to factor in that he was doing it against Sun Belt and CUSA foes vs the SEC like Reese was. Reese's career high was only 15 points while CJ went for over 30 as a freshman against Texas Tech. But not a whole lot from CJ the last two years.

Reese also is not a huge assist guy. He averaged just 1 assist a game last year and less than 2 a game as a freshman. He also has been suspended on multiple occasions so there's that risk as well.

I guess in short we'll just have to wait and see. High risk, high reward situation. But with the large turnover we've been seeing in this program and the fact that it was an open spot this late, well worth the risk.

  5. I must say Benford is a recruiter, he might just get it going after all. He has not gotten off to the best start and we all loved JJ. I think this is a make or break year. Hopefully make! Go Eagles!!!!!!!!

I don't know. I think he still has a lot more to do to prove that. He has to win more recruiting battles in order to get that distinguishment IMO. The four guards he signed this class had 1 combined other offer, and it's unsure who else was giving this kid a chance. But a great get for sure.

*As for his eligibility, based on NCAA precedent and what NT03 has said, the most likely scenario is that he sits the first semester of the season and begins playing the second half of the season as a junior. Even though he will have sat out for 2 semesters total (last spring and this upcoming fall) he can't claim that as sitting out a season, therefore can't claim it as a redshirt. He will be a true junior once he starts playing again. He can't get his second semester of his sophomore year back and he can't get his first semester of his junior year back. They're burned even though he never played. Still a good deal. He also has his redshirt eligibility if he ever had to use it, but if everything goes according to plan he won't and he'll just play the next 1.5 seasons and likely be our starting point guard for most or all of that time.

  6. 6'7" 275 lb offensive lineman for Butler CC in Kansas. Also holds offers from Kentucky, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas. I've been wondering if we'd recruit a JUCO OT with Antonio Johnson, the only true left tackle on our roster, being a senior this season.

  7. He appears to have been suspended in Dec 2013: http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2013/12/texas-am-dismisses-sophomore-guard-from-basketball-team.html/

He was a sophomore at the time... just thinking out loud, A$M isn't going to allow him to transfer to another B12 school. I'm thinking he may have to sit out in the Fall semester and is eligible to play in the Spring? Not sure about that... it would sure be a huge lift to have him after losing Chris. I have no idea why he was suspended or any of the details. It appears that his dad was an assistant coach at A&M. Very interesting development.

That's a possibility. That happens in college basketball
  8. Looks like a gray shirt offer

Are you sure? This is very early to be offering a grayshirt. I don't get the point behind offering grayshirts this early. If you don't think the kid is good enough to be a part of your class this year, what makes you think he'll fit better for the next year? Especially considering this is Strong's first year and you would think he hopes to improve his recruiting at Texas to where his class is better next year than this year. Which again, why would he fit better next year?
  9. The way those crystal balls work is the longer the prediction is up, the more points the predictor gets when/if that kid commits to that school. They can change them last minute, but they won't get as much points. We are his only offer, so that guy is just hoping it stays that way and he eventually picks us.

But that is the bigger point. We still appear to be his only offer (I believe he did pick up an FCS offer). I wouldn't mind getting this kid at all. He checked in at about 6'1" 225 at a camp and ran a 4.6 I believe. He'd be a very good fit at linebacker, even as an inside linebacker.
