  1. to say this defense is "slightly improved" seems to be a great understatement. the last two years involved players running wide open all game long. this season, i see players who are step for step with the receivers throughout the game. now, it seemed that the scheme saturday was incredibly bland and safe because i don't remember a single blitz, but i'm sure that was a challenge to make FAU drive the entire field rather than risk the big play. of course, "the entire field" was incredibly short most of the night.
  2. i worry about halloween attendance, but it can't be worse than post-thanksgiving garbage. even with the tough losses at home, the schedule this year has been wonderful
  3. i sure hope we do regardless of who's starting at QB. anything to get the ball in the hands of #19 more often.
  4. easiest decision of the night was to go for it. i would have lost it if we'd kicked the field goal based on two missed extra points and three kickoffs out of bounds giving them the ball at OUR 45 yard line on one occasion. i also thought the surprise onside kickoff was a great call but once again, we don't execute. this game was lost because of their average starting field position. not due to poor coaching, but poor execution.
  5. always looking for a reason to dislike the worldwide leader, i'm sort of hoping they choose to ignore NT on this site, but if they do choose to cover NT it may provide some additional local interest. i guess we'd have to make national headlines to be featured so a bowl birth or a conference hoops championship may be what finally proves their stance with our university.
  6. so, if RV is Jason Seaver and TD is Mike Seaver, does that make coach deloach bonner?
  7. after the trip to rice last year, i don't think you'll ever hear me complain about the green brigade.
  8. there are two versions of the "caw"...one is issued by a fan during/after an exciting play. the other is issued by someone after a bad play trying to mock THEIR OWN university. the latter is the one none of us will understand, but those who think this is funny also don't see the issue with wearing a UT shirt to the game.
  9. playing the alma mater before the game would mean most fans would hear it from the parking lot. playing it after the game would result in most fans listening to brent musburger instead having left at halftime. if we're talking about the timing of tradition, did anyone ever explain shooting off boomer after the ohio loss? i understand the need to follow through on the fireworks, as some parents can only convince their kids to stay for the whole game with the promise of an after-show, but boomer was confusing a couple weeks ago.
  10. i think it's time to stop stressing out over "will the fans come back". year after year, the students turn out impressively at the beginning of the year. yes, it drops off dramatically at the end of the year but they will return when the team starts winning consistently. hoops attendance is the greater concern because we've had good teams in recent years but few students even know that.
  11. exactly. it's nearly impossible to win a game with 5 turnovers, a blocked field goal, and a botched 4th and 1. even with the sluggish start, we had a chance here going into the fourth. penalties did hurt...just ask carrey
  12. i haven't heard anything official
  13. Here's a better idea. find yourself having lunch with an unsuspecting buddy during the 'bama game saturday and seemingly out of nowhere yell "NORTH!" to see if he responds appropriately. you may need to do it a couple times in succession before he realizes what you've started and then the two of you can return the verbal volley until you annoy every other patron in the establishment. don't worry, if you have a few choice words or R-rated hand gestures thrown your directions, that's just our students cheering right along with you.
  14. this has been discussed at length on this board. the "search" feature works wonders! i did, however, notice a change saturday. it seemed that on a couple occasions the cheerleaders would race to pick up their signs in response to the cheer having been started in the stands. i would say our cheerleaders were great on saturday and being actively involved in the GAME, not actively involved in cheering for the sake of cheering. maybe i'll post a "letter to the cheerleaders" if eppy doesn't take offense to it.
  15. so, are you advising that our o-line be prepared for dirty play because chapman likes to do "hoodrat" stuff with his friends?
  16. i was embarrassed by the obscenities and the number of middle fingers seen last night can only be compared to the number of shockers flashed at a petty theft show. that said, i think our fans learned a valuable lesson today after cheering "we want riley" following tune's pick. by the end of the game, i think tune's performance showed them that it's much more important to cheer support for your team rather than cheer against a play that didn't go our way. at least, i hope this was a lesson learned.
  17. last night, late in the game, as the offense was in the red zone, the players on the sideline were encouraging the crowd to get loud. that prompted the cheerleaders to join in and the students would follow as well. during the big field goal attempts, the crowd would "shhh" each other. i think it had more to do with being led by the player than a lack of football fan IQ.
  18. has anyone come across any? i found some ball state highlights but none from NT's perspective.
  19. jeremy phillips was like a missile coming down on kick coverage and i did notice a fair amount of starters on the unit.
  20. i got nervous about the center/QB exchange every time but i'm glad to see it's an option and hopefully something that's comfortable enough that i don't need to be nervous regarding the final kneel down, i had made the comment "27-10 will look nice" but i'm now glad the decision was made to lean towards class in that moment. bringing on the field goal unit would've been ridiculous but i really don't think it would've been inappropriate to have run the ball up the gut again and possible score another td.
  21. i opted not to get the new ncaa this season since the makers wouldn't be able to forecast the greatness of riley accurately enough but i may change my mind since it apparently comes with a coloring book and this thread has become the refrigerator door.
  22. welcome back! there's nothing like hitting up cyberspace to realize that you're not the only one fired up about the season. also, things get a bit more calm if you just ignore whatever daddy dumpsarump says.
  23. no joke! i kept waiting for him to mike off, clear his throat, and return sounding like a human but it didn't happen. "oh too bad"
