  1. It's great it can recognize where he went to school and played football -- but I prefer our celebrity alumni that are at the games with the camera on them not to be the pill popping wife abusing type.
  2. If we win -- it would be hard to get on the bus and not want to celebrate with all the fans that evening.
  3. I broke my neck as a teenager. When I came to from being knocked out, the medical peoples around me at the site were telling me not the move at all. Literally, not even wiggle my damn toes. I was so afraid that I didn't move at all. Not at inch. I thought I could, but didn't even try. I didn't want to test it and end up doing something that really did make it worse. Watching that 20 minutes of streaming -- why the hell where they streaming??!? -- was just insane for me. PTSD of my injury. It was obvious he was responding to their talking, so I imagine they were telling him to be completely still and to listen to everything they are saying and it will be ok. I bet he was a good trooper and just did as they said because that is scary as it gets. I kept projecting that onto the situation and telling myself that I *can* actually still enjoy football... that he is just laying there as a precaution, but ultimately would be fine. I am very happy he was released and ostensibly good to go. FWIW - I had my neck fused and have no meaningful remnants of my injury. Thanks Doctors!
  4. @Green Lantern Everything you said I feel too. Exactly the same. I say the same thing to anyone that question why the hell I am a Mean Green diehard. I even list off the players names that I loved, which obviously they have never heard of. Neon Don McGee .. loved that guy! But this is a fan site where all of this is talked in the confines of our die-hard-ness. So everything should be taken in that context of fandom. His SBC dominating teams only beat THREE teams that had a winning record... over four years! That is incredible.
  5. It's kind of fun to walk down memory lane. How bad was the SBC during our run? 2001: ONE of our SBC opponents had a winning record - MTSU 8-3 2002: ONE had a winning record - NMSU 7-5 2003: NONE had a winning record 2004: NONE had a winning record. Note: Only listed teams we played. But Troy did have a winning record in 2004 too 7-5. THREE other teams in all of SBC had a winning record in four years.
  6. Sure, winning all those SBC games (it was such a terrible starter conference) was great. It got us some Dallas News love... Maybe a local news segment. We had that magical win against Cinci. But man. There we so many bad losses under DD too. We just couldn't win out of conference. We would even lose to provision Div-1A teams (USF, Troy, ?). Teams I was pumped to see how we matched up against, we would get destroyed -- Tulsa (multiple), Tulane, etc. He also led teams that should have won (against USM and we had Jamario in his prime) and had the most wheels offense game plan ever. One that we got in because everyone else was so bad (5-7) and lost. Memphis, just beat us. It's not even close -- his teams only had a winning percentage against the SBC. That's the truth. And this may just be me being picky, but I always considered that loss to Troy in 2001 as a loss in the SBC. They were joining the SBC next year as planned. We all talked about it like it was a SBC game to prove who really has the dominance and they beat us (the SBC champ) the game before our bowl game. Ouch. His teams were fairly wild off the field, but it was mostly kept in house. During those days I kept a running mugshot gallery that I would farm from the Denton County Jail. He ran an us v. them style of team building that I just didn't respect too much. But, that's whatever. Whatever works. His guys were loyal too him, so it must have worked. I just never really liked it. So I am with @Monkeypox on this one -- stats are stats. He didn't have the overall stats. His time came, he was let go. This isn't about not recognizing. I recognize the SBC wins at the beginning of the SBC (then Troy took over). I recognize the fun parts.
  7. I can tell you this -- when I mention that my wife went to TAMS -- EVERYONE knows it is at UNT. It brings another thing to UNT.
  8. I know dozens of TAMSters (sleep next to one every night, in fact). I know of ONE guy that stayed at UNT post TAMS. None of them were recruited to stay at UNT. Even on university night when all the l33t schools came to pitch their programs, UNT didn't put up a table with pizza. Nothing. Thus, when deciding whether to go Columbia, UT, A&M, Stanford and even UTD -- UNT doesn't even put itself in the game. These kids got stipends and full tuitions at other schools. We didn't even offer pizza.

  10. @EagleMBA I appreciate your willingness to tell a doctor it is none of their business -- and that is your right. You are not legally required to answer medical questions. It is insane that we have laws preventing the questions though. That is my point. We actually have laws preventing a medical professional from trying to determine risk when it comes to guns.
  11. You mean -- medical doctors? Experts in health, risk and all that? Though fair enough, I absolutely discount firefighters recommending me to change the battery on my smoke detector when the time changes -- well, because, you know, what do YOU really know?! If only we listened to firefighters on fire safety then all deaths would eventually be eliminated.
  12. The obvious way to have a meaningful conversation is to pick the outlier and say that is proof it doesn't work. Ignoring all the successes.
  13. Well -- combining the thought of immigrant and dangerous together is the problem. According to my mass killing index, most mass killings in the states is by citizens.
  14. There aren't too many laws in place to prevent someone from buying a gun at a garage sale or gun show. Right? I think there is a shocking amount of paranoia or ignorance. In the US -- we DO NOT study gun violence as a medical/social/science problem. We are hamstrung by laws preventing the collection of data and hamstrung by lack of funding. http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/05/politics/lack-of-gun-research-and-funding-study/index.html My good friend is a pediatrician - when she is going through her well child check up with the parents and children, she goes through all the recommended AMA questions and safety recommendations. Are you carseats installed properly? Do you have lead paint? Do you know carbon monoxide detectors? Do use hanging devices like swings in door jambs, bath water depth, water heater temp, etc. etc etc. All good things. In fact, it wasn't until I had my second child that I learned from a new pediatrician that we had been using our infant seat incorrectly (and my wife is a physician)! Luckily this doctor was there to help recommend safety precautions and keep our kids safe from our misknowledge. You know what a pediatrician CANNOT ask? If the parents have a gun in the house. The cannot recommend gun safes. Nothing. Nada. Rien. The NRA has such a lockdown on this topic that it actually prevents real studies from happening and allows the general public to say there is nothing more we can do... and it is just a mental health problem. My wife is a physician. She is allowed to ask about depression level. She is allowed to ask about drinking and drugs. She is allowed to note about suicidal ideations or indications for self harm. She is NOT allowed to ask about guns in the house. She is NOT allowed to note any remarks about potential for violence in regard to guns -- I mean -- why would that matter, right? Yet people will continue to say -- "we never saw this coming, no one knew." I doubt it. I bet some professional knew. They were not allowed to note it, act on it or treat it accordingly. All because of a the dirty words "gun control".
  15. Ok. You definitely were not talking about Liberals then. My mistake. You must have been talking about the Grand Ole Party. Accusation via obfuscation.
  16. That's absurd. How is trying to find a solution to keeping weapons away from dangerous people -- "political?"
  17. Of course. Why wouldn't anyone want that? You have demonized liberals so much in your head that you legitimately believe that liberals don't want to track radicalized citizens? Makes me shake my head.
  18. Trump Jr is a politician? ..and for real, I can't read if you are being sarcastic. Maybe this is a Trump Jr. style joke being dropped?
  19. I don't have to pay $5000 for the privilege to know what type of guy he is and what he has to say when given the chance. Do you follow his twitter? He is a vile human. He, himself, portrays himself in that light. I do not have to make any of it up. He is insulting, conceited and incredibly small minded. But yes, let's not use his own words to judge him. It must be some 'fake news' situation. But here is where the 'free press' should be invited to cover a speech without having to buy a table. We would have more sources and the news could be less -- 'fake'?
  20. Yeh - that is effectively what I was saying too. This is not a gain of $1M -- it is a potential gain -- but historically we never even come close.
