  1. You know what, I didn't start this, but I'll be happy to finish it. Don't attack alumni about a lack of support if you yourself cannot back it up, which is the point in all this. And I don't wear that stupid helmet at the basketball or softball games but I guess I should as it would have helped me find who I needed to give my cash donation to the Pit Crew at the TCU game last December a bit easier than it was. Of course I knew who Gak was right off, no problem in that respects. And I'm still waiting, what road trip have you attended Mr. Strange? Rick
  2. Wow, three people have attended a road game here? Two of which were getting hammered two days ago for not supporting our teams at home games like some thought they should. That's simply amazing but not surpising. Surely there are more who have gone out of town to attend a road game? I mean, some of y'all have not missed a home game in 2 years, certainly supporting the Mean Green means more to some of you than that? Rick
  3. Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis 1990: It was cold as can be but lots to see. NT didn't do well against IU and Marshall in the tournament, but it was the drive up and back that takes the cake. It took Talon90, Greenblood94, GreenBat, one other and myself 12 hours to drive up. But took us over two days including getting stranded at some cheap, roadside roach cabin overnight due to fog, and then trying to come back in one of the worst ice storms to hit the central part of the U.S. during the 90's. NCAA Tournement in Salt Lake City: Lots of things to see and do but very very cold. Great seats for the price. Lots of tradition. tU, Austin: Lots to do, great food and classy folks but the seats for the visitors were in the upper levels were a little high for the price. Felt like I was watching a football game we were so far from the floor. Oklahoma City Tournament: My first experience as Eppy, rowdy fans and easy drive up. Thank you to the OU mascot "Top Dog" for showing me the ropes that weekend. The Mean Green got whipped but everyone had a good time regardless. SWT/TSU San Marcos: Nice facility, pretty campus, good seats and lots of good food. Also, just like in Denton, lots of eye candy. TCU: Easy drive, great seats for the price. Good fans. Daniel Meyer is old but a good warm place to watch a game. UTA: Nothing like taking over the stage and turning it into a homegame. One year UTA officials actually made all wearing green to sit in the loft seats above the floor. Talon90 and myself were eventually escorted out by security because we figured, if they were going to make us sit up there, then we can at least hang our banners over the UTA banners already in place? Not! Northwestern State, Natchitoches LA: Did I spell that right? Pretty campus, great seats and nice folks. A little too far to drive back then but the highway's are much more improved these days. Haven't been in years. SFA Nacadoches: Pretty drive, decent facility, great seats and you could never go without meeting someone you knew from back home. Louisiana Monroe: Nice facility, great seats, easy drive but long. Very abusive fans. They don't like to lose to us, or at least they didn't then. Many of us after one game left with the team down onto the floor and out the back to the parking lot in 1989. SMU: Biggest crap hole to try to get into including driving there and trying to park. Sorry stuck up people for fans. Sorrier seats for the price. I have never seen us win there but I long for the day when we do. Any others? Rick
  4. The Cheerleaders have the $80 worth of posters I gave to them. Hopefully someone can talk them into getting some used out of them. Pass them a flyer too while your at it. Rick

  6. Question: Besides the near 5,000 students that live on campus, how many would you say live within say a 20 block radius? I lived two blocks north of Oak and everyone in between my apartment and campus was a student. Multiply that by 10? I'm going to guess our 20 block radius population is....13,000? So say there are 13K within 20 blocks of campus including those on campus. How in hell do you get even half of them to a basketball game? That would easily fill the lower half of the Pit. Get one quarter of that and you have the best crowd we have had in years. As it stands right now, we have about 200 students out of 30,000 that are interested in attending a game at the Super Pit. When drex was our marketing and promotion man we were averaging at least 2,000 per game in attendance but on the special nights attendance would easily go up to 4 or 5k for Southland Conference games. Having the women's game as a warm up prior to the men's game may have had something to do with it a little? Not sure. But it was just the place to be on game night. I hated to miss a game and many others did too. Why it's not like that now I have no clue. Possibly all the years of losing? Rick
  7. Surely aspiring coaches looking to move up do not just sit there and wait for a call? Secondly, I take it from this report that Sam Houston didn't call either? Rick
  8. Everyone said "Big Deal" because of their record beause they had not played anyone? But they nearly knocked off #2 Kansas last week and defeated #10 Texas tonight 74-63 on FoxSW. Anytime the horns lose it's worth mentioning. Rick
  9. Some of you from the late 80's may remember Talon alumn Darrel McCoy. he was "Eppy" the mascot during the final couple of football seasons, '89 and '90? He was in the Army reserves and activated the November before desert storm and sent to Iraq in December. He served with the special forces and participated during a special asisgnment before the war started, getting dropped in behind the lines to help distribute the surrender pamphlets. When he got back, "Necessary Roughness" was being filmed at the time. The day he got in the DRC ran a photo and a story on him in Denton. The photo was of him escorting an iraqi prisoner from a T72 Tank that is in the background of the photo, and I still have it in the scrap book. When I introduced him to the cast and crew of NR he was an instant celeb and everyone of course wanted to hear what he had done. And since he had mascoted before he was able to acquire a part in the movie playing the opponent mascots in the movie. Last time I had heard from him he had gotten bored with school and his Army reserve duty had run out. So he joined the Marine Corp. The last time I had heard from him, about the time I was getting on the fire department, he was in Haiti helping with the relief effort there and was suffering from Malaria or something like that himself. He's now found the time to finally settle down a bit and get back in touch with the home of the Mean Green. He is still in the Marine Corp, is married and has a 10 month old baby and lives in Hawaii. He sent me a link to his photography web address and it gives a little background on him. He's one wildest dudes if you have never met him. He's mentioned coming back to Texas soon so hopefully the Mean Green Nation will get a chance to again aquaint itself with one of it' s crazier son's. Check out his site. It's got some very interesting photo's he's done in the past. Rick www.dmphotoarthi.com
  10. I'm with Buford. We had some fun years playing UTA and the "Stage" was our house a few times. Of course one of the largest regular conference games we had at the Super Pit while I was in school in '89 or '90, 5,200 or so fans saw the Mavericks pull out a close win. Those were some fun games for sure. There isn't any reason why we shouldn't renew the rivalry. Rick
  11. I was good to hear from NT alumn Craig Way on the halftime show. Had a lot of good things to say about NT. Also talked about getting ready to do the Longhorn game at the Rose Bowl. Amazingly after over 200 years of football between UT and Michigan this will be the first time the two schools have ever played against each other. Kinda Crazy. Rick
  12. That would have been one Myles Alfonso, who not only taught me everything I used in my performances during the 88 thru 90 seasons as Eppy but he also hand made all the Eppy costumes during that era. Talons was 120+ strong back then filling nearly an entire section. Talon90 and myself also wondered where in hell all the conference championship banners went? Not having them kind of erases the memories and efforts of those who came before hand. You could just about and go watch any Krum High School game and see a better show than during any of the Trilli years. And I love the Dancers, much more dirty dancing these days than during the 80's and 90's. I also love "Fly like an Eagle". Every time I hear it I remember Salt Lake City in '88. Great times. And finally, I love visiting New York because it reminds me how good we have it here in Texas. As the song say's...."God Bless Texas". Rick
  13. Does Julius Jone remind anyone of somebody around here? A guy who comes in and revamps his team's offense with his explosive speed? Rick
  14. A&M? Three of our Wing Members took on their entire band at Texas Stadium 4 or 5 years ago. It was a good match up. I thought hanging the banner upside down the other night was great. Shows spirit, and damn if after all the blah blah blah, that meant nothing talk going on over on killerfrogs, evidently it did mean something. I was a bit surprised though to see that it took a Female TCU fan to have the nads to go over and try to do something about it. GO FIGURE? Rick
  15. Cowtown, the Pit Crew started that last night. It was great. About the posters, your going to have to find some with a bit more cloth over the fun parts there I would imagine? Just a thought. And I haven't seen true full size posters in many years. Ours were FULL size(Spiked heels to the head), at least six feet. We had to let them hang over the railing down to the floor nearly. Surely someone has to still make them? Rick
  16. I want to thank the Pit Crew for making tonight a very memorable one for the F5 and I. Good food and pregame entertainment. Hard to believe all that was done by a few students with a little bit if imagination? I counted over 50 rowdy Pit Crew members in the stands. Reminds me of another group that used to attend the games in the 80's, raising hell and having fun. Suggestion: Talon90 and I thought it might bring a tear to our eye to see one of you restart the tradition of holding up 6 foot tall posters of bikini clad women behind the opponents team basket. Great job folks. Rick
  17. I'm buy UNT Playmaker his first well deserved Hurricane when I see him on Bourbon. Mark it down. Rick
  18. OHHHHHHHHHHHHH GOOD GRIEF THAT's FREAKING FUNNY!!!!!!LOL!!!!! Someone give me something to get the coffee off the computer screen. Rick
  19. Good. I'll wave to you with the big "L" sign. Rick
  20. This morning during the ESPN college game day that was done live on the Utah campus, they had Meyer on as a guest. Lee Corso asked him directly if he was considering taking the Florida job. Meyer said, there has not been any communication between himself and Florida. Then Corso asked again, "So your not leaving?". Meyer stated very clearly, "NO". If you think NT has a chance at Meyer then you might as well put Bob Stoops on that list as well because we have about the same chance to get both. Rick
  21. I pay hundreds, spent thousands on my school's program. I drive an hour and a half each way to go see my team play and have done so so many times the past 17 years it would be impossible to count. I have dedicated countless hours on projects to help make sure some of our special traditions continue. I have involved my family in being fans as well, placing Mean Green interests over other activities. I placed my job at times to the side as well to support my team, my school as I think they deserve because we are trying our best to start something.......new here. I will again spend more money and time and travel to my fourth away game this season to attend my fourth bowl game to make sure there is one more voice to cheer on the Mean Green. But as I was reminded at the football banquet last year, and as I have been reminded in the media several times before, and while watching the post game bowl invite tonight beside the stage, along with the other 14,000 souls who showed up in the 40+ degree windy and rain soaked saturday evening, I again was reminded how sorry of a complainer I have been who cussed my team out earlier in the season. Shame on me and the rest of you. The guys in green sure showed us though didn't they? Again they made a complete fool out of me I suppose? You would think I would learn by now, whatever it is I'm suppose to have learned? I'm just a sorry, lousy escuse of a fan I suppose but..(Connor cover your ears again son,) I will have mine and my family'sA$$ back next year to do it all over again. Go Mean Green! Rick
  22.
