  1. I predict over 7,000 students to be at this game! I think the wild card is not the students it will be whether or not alumni/community can fill the $ seats. Students always show up for BIG GAMES! I bought 4 tickets for the premium section closest to visitor bench (near student section). I'm thinking I might just bust out the GREEN WIG and get rowdy. GO MEAN GREEN!!! BEAT TEXAS TECH!!!
  2. I'm excited about the upcoming MEAN GREEN b-ball season and was wanting to buy season tickets for the first time (alum). I saw that the renewals just started not too long ago for previous ticket holders. How much do tickets usually run a seat for lower level? ....I haven't had a chance to call the ticket office yet, but would I be able to buy tickets this early?
  3. Acoustics could be a lot better at the Super Pit, but with that said....even with bad acoustics the crowd noise is unmatched by sunbelt arenas. The Super Pit has a reputation of being a "trap" place to play. Listen to the radio during games...it sounds like we atleast half way fill the stadium. The Pit Crew, Cheerleaders, Talons & Band can really get the crowd going. UNT has stepped it up with their program...From coaching to the overall student participation/campus culture....I'm excited to see what this next year will bring to the books.
  4. You can never ask for too much green! It would be awesome if we could do a throwback game for homecoming and wear the "flying worm" jerseys!!! But I think we should stick to the same jerseys....we changed them WAY too much in the 90s/early2000s....we've had like 6 different helmets. geesh!
  5. Oct. 18, 2008 To: UNT students The following news release is being distributed to media this evening and has been posted to InHouse at www.inhouse.unt.edu. DENTON (UNT), Texas -- Students at the University of North Texas voted to add for the first time ever a dedicated athletic fee to help fund a new football stadium and entertainment venue, according to referendum results released today by the Student Government Association. The official results of this weeks referendum, which was held Oct. 13-17, show that 2,829 (58.1 percent) students voted in favor of the athletic fee while 2,038 (41.9 percent) students voted against the fee. A total of 4,867 (13.9 percent of the student body) students voted in the election that also included races for SGA senators and the UNT Homecoming court. "I believe the students voice was heard and it shows that we care about the future of this university. We understand that this vote was not just about the stadium. It was about our universitys future and our experience as students and alumni, because having a new stadium and entertainment venue will enhance our entire college experience," said Jeff Kline, student body president. "The students have made an investment in this university by voting yes; we now challenge the alumni of UNT to support their alma mater as well." The new $10 per credit hour fee will cap at 15 semester credit hours and will not be implemented until the stadium is complete, which is expected to be in the fall of 2011. Currently, the student body dedicates $3 per semester credit hour of the Student Service Fee to support athletics each semester. When the new athletic fee is implemented, the Student Service Fee will be reduced by $3, so no more than $105 of the $150 maximum athletic fee will be a new cost to students once the stadium opens. "Our student body clearly supports continued expansion and improvement of UNT Athletics. They also understand that a strong athletics program is key to a vibrant alumni community and the continued growth of UNTs image," President Gretchen M. Bataille said. "This fee, which will help us build a new stadium and entertainment venue, will ensure that our athletics program will be able to match the quality of our academic and research programs. "I am committed to ensuring that UNT, like many of the nations best research universities, strives to be excellent in everything we do," Bataille said. "Recently weve bolstered our research programs with a $25 million commitment, were hiring additional senior-level faculty who have excellent records in teaching and research, and were expanding our advising programs so that we can be sure to keep our students experience among the best in Texas." UNT Athletics Director Rick Villarreal thanked the students for their support. "Although I know there were students on both sides of this issue, I appreciate the support of those who have put us in a position to bring to fruition a project that I believe will have a positive impact on the entire university. Now that the students have given us their commitment, our momentum for raising donations and attracting corporate sponsorships will increase. We intend to continue moving this process along in the most expedient manner so everyone can enjoy a new facility as soon as possible." A new stadium, which at UNT will be part of a larger sports and entertainment complex, can only be built with funds raised by private donors and student fees because Texas law does not allow state funds to be used for athletics construction. Texas law also says student fees can fund no more than 50 percent of the cost. UNT is committed to working with its alumni and friends to make its vision for the new stadium and entertainment venue a reality. The new stadium will replace 56-year-old Fouts Field, where much of the infrastructure is outdated. Originally opened to accommodate 20,000 fans, Fouts Field is no longer a viable home for the North Texas football program and other events. When Fouts Field opened in 1952, UNT had an enrollment of fewer than 5,000 students. Today UNT is one of the states largest and best universities with an enrollment of 34,795 students. The new stadium will serve as a signature landmark to the campus. UNT has built 10 new athletics facilities since 2002, including an Athletics Center and new venues for softball, tennis, soccer, swimming and volleyball, as well as a 7,000-square-foot academic center that is dedicated to helping student athletes succeed academically. To move forward on constructing a new stadium, with a possible groundbreaking as early as summer 2009, President Bataille and UNT System Chancellor Lee Jackson will advance the new fee recommendation to the UNT System Board of Regents for approval. Regents approval would also provide permission for the university to seek approval from the Texas legislature to implement the fee. Legislative approval would make the fee part of state law that would be signed by the Governor at the end of the next legislative session in 2009. Regents approval also would give the university permission to simultaneously seek approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to construct a new stadium. **UNT** The University of North Texas is a student-centered public research university and the flagship of the UNT System. One of Texas' largest universities, UNT offers 99 bachelor's, 104 master's and 49 doctoral degree programs, many nationally and internationally recognized. UNT is the choice of 34,795 students. 6. Hey Guys, I just got off the phone with "SGA Officials" (good friends of mine) they said that the "public" won't be able to know until tomorrow @ 5:00! The Election Board Chairman will be posting the official results online at http://www.untsga.com ! I'm hoping that the truth will leak out and be posted sometime tonight! I plan on going out to the bars tonight and trying to get these guys googley-eyed enough to tell me the outcome of the referendum. Best Regards, RockGuitarist4life
  7. I'm ready for this thing to be over! *cross your fingers guys!* I'm going to call Jeff Kline (President of SGA) and other senators to find out the results at 5:30pm. I'm sure they'll have to count the paper ballots and add them to the online scores. I've seen a lot of opposition to this referendum and pray that UNT students really understand the importance of this stadium being built soon. I'll post online what I find out.
  8. Hey Flyer, I talked to a number of students today on campus and had 15 vote yes. We need to spread the word on campus and tell friends to tell friends. I talked to a number of students who said they were voting no and every single one of them was from journalism! I also had an RTVF & Computer Science kid tell me they were voting no. We've gotta have senators, athletics, talons, rha members, everyone trying to push the yes vote over the top!!!! It is mid-week and I feel that we are under-estimating the "no" vote. If this vote doesn't pass, I feel like this will be horrible PR for our university. Lets make sure that this thing passes by telling everyone we know! GO MEAN GREEN! VOTE YES! YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES!!!!!!!
  9. I JUST VOTED YES!!!! and told all my friends through facebook chat to vote yes as well!
  10. Hey Guys, I would like to know some details on our first regular season basketball game this year that is being played in the snake pit...!!! First of all, the snake pit is the old men's gymnasium correct? I'm not exactly sure where that is...please someone point me in the right direction so I can spread the word to students. Thanks!
  11. I think we will kill FIU! GO MEAN GREEN!!!! 47-21 Blowout!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
  12. That is the funniest thing i've heard in awhile! lol. made my day. haha.
  13. Wow! This guy obviously hasn't seen the change in athletics over the past 5+ years. I'm insulted that someone who has been around for 30 years feels we haven't reached near max seating-capacity. He obviously wasn't at the Navy, Baylor or SMU games the past few years. Some people are just content with having the "Texas Teachers College" small-town attitude. We are a growing university, students top choice because of a majority of different programs, and even though we had a 2-10 season we STILL have DECENT attendance at our football games!!!!! There is so much pride on campus for our athletic programs compared to years past, and I don't see that many SMU, UT, TCU, A&M shirts worn on campus anymore. GREEN IS WORN ALL OVER THE PLACE!!! This university is stepping it up (national radio and television advertisements, local billboard advertisements, magazine advertisements...etc) we are marketing to the right target segments of the population! **I'm waiting for the day when we will see alums come back donate $$$ and wear green blazers to the games. lol**(much like those ugly light blue tar heels blazers you always see at UNC games.) Our student attendance is better than majority of schools, especially in the SUNBELT! We need more community involvement and this stadium could help this! high school band competitions, football playoffs, ...this stadium could be the home to many in the metroplex area. I'm ready to cast my vote in the October Student Body Elections! Sign me up to VOTE YES on this stadium! I've convinced 60 + other students to vote the same way. The Pit Crew(loyal b-ball fans), The Talons, RHA, Greek Life, SGA and other orgs have worked too hard these past few years to see this referendum fail. It will pass gentleman, oh...it will pass!!!! TIME TO RALLY THE STUDENTS OF THE GREAT UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS! GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!
  14. I know this has probably already been posted, but...........is the game being televised somewhere in Denton and would I be able to order it on PPV? I called the Pour House and they won't have the UNT games till next week. Hooters told me they had it, but the newspaper said it was not televised and that you could only listen to it on 100.7 FM. Any watching parties??!?!?!? I need a cold beer and my mean green. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  17. I want to go!!! ....but....I have three midterms this week & a project. I bought the $14.95 package from Sun Belt Conference Website....to watch the game streaming while I do my project in the library on Sunday...hahaha.
  18. whoa...there browski!.....I'd say for the most part greeks have shown up big to the basketball games this year. You might not see them in there Greek Letters and thats because they've been wearing NORTH TEXAS GREEN or PIT CREW T-shirts in the stands. This week was "Greek Week," which is 7 days where all greek fraternities/sororities program events on campus and raise money for the community. It does stink that the Greeks had an event from 7-8:30 (during the basketball game), but you have to keep in mind that us fans weren't even sure that we were going to play the 1st round game at the Super-Pit until a week ago. I know several greeks (fraternity men) that skipped the event all together to go to the basketball game! There seemed to be a lot more students in the stands after halftime (because they were coming from an event). I firmly believe that UNT as a community has made HUGE strides as to show up and not program events on the same nights as basketball games. If you don't believe me...check out the attendance in the student section for each game this season. We have higher attendance numbers than past seasons and higher numbers than the sections in the sun belt & in many other conferences! Way to go UNT! One point that i would like to make is....that our attendance numbers are not entirely correct. There has been many times where I've seen students walk in the game without there id's being scanned (because it has been after halftime) or being let in because students have a UNT ID all-in-one Debit Card and not the regular swipe card. The UNT Debit Card needs a specific swiper to record attendance and some gates do not have this special swiper (thus losing track of student attendance). But I know that athletics have partially-fixed this problem, but it wasn't until later on in the season. You might not realize it, but there were plenty of greeks at the game last night. Myself being one .....and I wouldn't be surprised if the overall attendance number was higher than what was recorded.
  19. I'll be there.....I've heard a pretty good buzz on campus about our team and have only missed two home games (christmas break). I've already seen tons of flyers on campus saying "PROTECT THE PIT." SGA & Athletics have been posting up flyers to help get the word out. I purchased my very own North Texas basketball jersey today on http://www.meangreengear.com <--------- check it out!!!
  20. I'll be there! That Centenary team is supposed to be pretty good this year....(wins against SMU & Texas Tech) 6 Wins - 3 Losses in Regular Season. GOOOOOOOO MEAAAAAAN GRREEEEEEEEEEN!
  21. Here is a video I found on Youtube of an upset Okie State Fan as he watches fans rush the court! I also found another video that shows us as we start to pour onto the court! Enjoy! I hope to see each and everyone of you students and alums out at the UTA game on Wednesday! I'll be there with the Pit Crew!!! Put on your GREEN and come out to ARLINGTON!!!
  22. Wow....i like the negative attitude....NOT! ....some students were there as early as 6:30....and at 7:30 there were tons of students, kids & adults....but 8:00 it was packed!!!! LOOK AT THE POSITIVES!!!! This is the 2nd year the pep rallies have been around. There were way more people there than at last year's 1st pep rally v.s. SMU! A HUGE SUCCESS!......free t-shirts, hot dogs, red-bull, NT Dancers, glow sticks, water bottles...every kind of giveaway you could imagine. MISER played......(radio hits & good covers) (i know its not ACDC or INCUBUS)...but the school doesnt have $100,000 to spend on their pep rallies....It took a lot of hard work to fight for a band and not a dj or just a cover band......the students really enjoyed the band...the promo table was sold out....for the first 1.5 hours you could barely see the grass! Todd Dodge came out with seniors/players (jamario thomas, brandon jackson...& 5 others) they all spoke & so did Rick Villareal. There was a step show! NT Dancers & The Band played and the crowd practiced cheers for the game. I would say it was a huge success and definately not a flop. I would like to hear some imput on how to make it better instead of the "it was ok attitude." I plan on seeing a possible record attendance game tomorrow & excited to see what Tailgating will be like in the new location. I also saw a lot of UNT shirts being worn this week and especially on Friday! just my two cents...on clark park....definately an improvement from last year. GO MEAN GREEN! BEAT THE HOOTERS!
  23. NT Daily...0-3????? I guess we count the bye week....wow...and then the messup with calling the team the wrong name. We play the owls this week. haha. must be a newbie.
